Ah... I'm not Timmy for much but you, sir, are a legend.

Okay, well, obviously. But you know what I mean.

So expensive, but super cool. Art works so well with the card. If only he had shroud it would be less scary to use. Maybe the coolest demon.

Forget the high casting cost. All you need is Urborg Panther, Breathstealer, and Feral Shadow to summon this beast.

You think he would be a nightstalker like the 3 that can be used to summon him lol. Oh well, cool card nonetheless.

He used to be my first-turn creature in one of my recurrence decks. But I don't have one anymore. I miss this guy. I won a lot of games with this card back in the day using dark ritual, funeral charm and exhume.

You don´t need to pay Spirit of the Night mana cost; you could instead sacrifice a Urborg Panther, a Feral Shadow and a Breathstealer. Yay!
One of my favorite creatures in magic. I wish the artist had done more cards.

I don´t know if the subtypes of this card are true. I can´t see the subtypes " Spirit and demon" imprinted in this card; So I want this card to play in a deck of Spirits; How I can demostrate in a tournament that this card is a spirit?

Hey guys, the reason it's not a nightstalker is because it's supposed to be a demon spirit the nightstalkers worship. It isn't one, but they are it's minions.

This is a good card, but I don't think it deserves a 4.481 rating (as of writing). 9 mana means you'll normally have to cheat it into play, and if you're doing that, you might as well get a Demon of Death's Gate for your troubles.

Now, I Tune my Breathtaker and Feral Shadow with my Urborg Panther to synchro summon Trishu... I mean, Spirit of the Night!
The Protection from Black is probably more of a drawback than an advantage, since being black it's already immune to most black removal, and this means you can't use any black auras on it yourself.
this card and reanimate won me a black lotus in a local tourney a while back. thank you, spirit of the night! Just no deck coudl deal with the turn 2 spirit.

An interesting card even today, no doubts there- and for a creature this old to still be even considered, is an impressive mark.
However, I DO believe that Withengar Unbound just *MAY have usurped Spirit of the Night's old pedestal as 'most frightening demon in Magic'. :p Especially if you consider Stoneforge Mystic.
If you want the non-EDH version, try Stronghold Overseer. No, this has only one color of protection, and it's a color that arguably it doesn't even really need protection from-- I mean, black has the most kill spells, but a good handful of black kill spells already don't hurt black creatures.
If it had protection from green and white, then it would still be up there with Akroma...alas, it does not. (pro-green IS relevant- green has anti-flying hate, and this is a flier!)

Strangers in the night, exchanging.... uh... if you see me walking by, with nightstalkers in my eye, look away, Spirit, look awaaaaay!
The prot black actually has some downside, e.g., Animate Dead doesn't work.
I'm not sure, but I think prot black was also a storyline element. I wish I remembered better...
Someone (Kaervek) summoned the Spirit of the Night and it wiped out an entire gathering of leaders, or something like that.
Anyway, this would totally be deserving of Mythic status. It sure goes THUNK! when it hits the table.

Pro-White is VERY relevant. This was printed when Swords to Plowshares, arguably the best spot removal in Magic, was still type-2/Standard legal. Also: Angels.

Blackroma!
@kitsunewarlock: What pro-white? This is pro-black. Since black creatures are usually immune from black kill spells, its protection is actually a downside, to keep it from being animate deaded.

AND HE'S LEGENDARY?! WHAT?
I ordered him for a Iname, Death Aspect EDH deck with spirits. Long story short, it didn't work out.
But now, I've got a beast of a creature that is practically Akroma, Angel of Wrath toned down a little.
Oh, ok. That's fine. I guess I'll just play Hatred. I'm SOOO sad!

@Tokosan: Did you lace your Reanimate to some other color? Otherwise, if I had been your opponent, I would have bonked the judge for allowing a black spell target a prot-black creature.
As for the card art, I've always thought it shows a very distinct Sienkiewicz influence (e.g., Demon Bear Saga, Elektra - Google them up if you are not familiar with them).

@seclists Protection doesn't apply to something in a zone other than the battlefield, unless otherwise stated. Reanimating Spirit of the Night is a perfectly legal, and strong, move to play.

Sick flavor, sadly unplayable in modern times. I know your inner timmy is dying to build the nightstalker combo deck, please resist.
2.5/5 for being a classic card that had its heyday many a year ago.

This was the first single I ever purchased back in the day. Had no idea how to use him, all I though was "Damn, this guys a beast". I do love being a Timmy :D Note: Never used him once in a deck before getting rid of my cards. Sadly I'd still have him if I'd waited; got rid of my cards less then 2 years before getting back in...after being out for 10 :(

Wow, this is the first demon I actually like. "Something" Void Demon was kinda cool, but this... but this... I like it a lot. XD
The art is my favorite amongst the demons as well. It reminds me of the Thinking Cap music video by MOFRESH. (Look it up on Youtube.)
Dropping with Kaalia or Deathrender and swingin' with Avacyn at his side.
The art alone makes it a 5/5 in my book. The crazy abilities are the icing on the cake.

If you add the casting cost of each Night Stalker together, then do the same for their power and toughness, voila! Spirit of the Night (which was originally called the Spirit of the Nightstalkers, but there wasn’t enough room on the card.)
Also, why "First strike when attacking"? Is it to encourage me to remember to be aggressive with this guy? Trust me, I had that one figured out on my own....

Very few creatures have come along that overshadow the Spirit in the right deck. He remains on par with Akroma, Angel of Wrath and Sphinx of the Steel Wind.
