I've managed to pull it off once or twice. It is difficult and the end result is rather disappointing when it is compared to some of the newer cards available. Spirit of the Night was powerful, but now it's an underpowered ghost with all the new mechanics.
Creatures really were underwhelming back in the day. Spirit of the Night was the original Akroma; totally over-the-top and unstoppable. It has not aged well.
The cycle of fetch-creatures was kinda lame in that they all cost 3 mana; if they ramped, so the first cost {B}, second cost {BB} and third cost {2}{B} or something like that it'd be much better. As it was, to try and get the combo you'd need to play three playsets of mediocre black 3-drop creatures... Blech.
BUT THE ART AND OVERALL AESTHETICS IN THE SET WAS THE BEST EVER.

@BegleOne: to be fair, Spirit of the Night is still pretty nasty to this day. I wouldn't call a flying, trampling, first striking, un-Doombladeable, un-Goforthethroatable, 6/5 underwhelming.
