I can't believe they only printed this once, I love this card. I use this all the time to cycle through my deck faster without loosing life. And I have plenty of creatures that pretty much only exist to enter the battlefield once. Heck, even a good creature is fine to sacrifice to grab a Fantastic creature.
@Megrimage I agree, at instant speed it would be insane.
Even at sorcery speed this would be 5/5 to me if it weren't for the good old Demonic Tutor just being better.

Edited: Anyways, i have a couple of these , i like to cast Act of Treason of my opponents fatty then use this.Of course saps and other creatures are good fodder. Solid card that I would love to see reprinted and should have been printed in Shards/conflux but i guess Jund was already over powered.

Works perfectly with any creature with a triggered ability when it enters the graveyard.
It's very nice in combination with Mindslicer; your opponent has an empty hand and you have the best card from your deck in your hand.

Loved planeshift, this was one reason why. Orim's chant is still pretty loved I hear.

Got pointed to this after making a thread about tutors, and not noticing this one... because it didn't have the word tutor in it. But WOW. In a world where creatures already provide card advantage just be entering the battlefield, and hundreds of token creatures flying about every which way, this kind of card is just awesome, given that even if you are playing vintage you can only have 1 Demonic Tutor.
I've been working on a BG deck which, amongst others, includes Nest Invader, Kozilek's Predator and Grave Titan, and a way to recur them repeatedly. So sacrificing ONE token creature is by no means a big requirement when the upside involves getting ANY card that I want or need out of my deck.
Not for every deck, but great in the decks that can work it. And to offset the card disadvantage from the creature sacrifice, always consider black's lovable Grave Pact. ^^
Wow, Demonic Tutor AND a sac outlet? Sweet! Time to go make that Veteran Explorer deck and tutor up a Gift's Ungiven on the second turn. . . then cast it on the third.

Diabolic intent and skullclamp for some good vintage action.

You know, if you wanted to be REALLY Diabolic, it would say 'target player sacrifices a creature. search your library for a card and put it into your hand.'

Amazing tutor that doesn't seem to be well known, probably because it doesn't have "tutor" in the name, and I guess isn't quite fast enough in most situations to be banned (as it obviously stalls you the sacrificed creature).
Still a first turn one mana creature drop, second turn attack and then sac to this for any card is a great play that can change a bad draw into a good one, particularly with other graveyard orientated cards. Works brilliantly in my Legacy Zombie deck with Gravecrawler and Unearth. Also is superb with Tragic Slip and any deck already featuring Diabolic Intent should 100% have both.
5/5 card no doubt.

Holy crap this is good.
Veteran Explorer -> This T2 -> Whatever you want. I think the Deed would be a common go-to. I'm pretty sure I'll be trying to replace a deed or two with this as it enables my land-grabbing while accelerating the opponent straight into it.
Even better, I usually want that dang card anyway, but 4-of main is probably a bit much. this can nab me whatever I need including that, making it a good replacement. It's also difficult to tutor for enchantments at a reasonable cost without white, but I this.. this is just perfection. Consider saccing Dryad arbor to it as well.

Deaderpool: They don't make Animate Dead's anyMORE, but RnD knew that Odyssey Block was in the works, and there are a lot of cards that interact unfairly with this there, but they designed Threshold so that it would be better for you to have cards in your graveyard than anywhere else. This still would have been considered an extremely broken combo piece back in that day. Between Urza's Block and Odyssey Block, almost every powerful Reanimation Tool EXCEPT Animate Dead would have been in Extended at the same time, I think, and very nearly missed being in Standard together. Mercadian Masques kept them apart though. Still, all these cards were floating around the casual scene tearing up people with anything and everything with Power and Toughness, by like Turn 2? 3? 4?
We don't get LD or Reanimation at the CMC we used to, they're BOTH close to about 5-6 now? Although on a very good Block we can get passable Reanimation at 4, and that happens...uncommonly, but if you stick around long enough you'll see it again.
This card is two mana-- at an ADDITIONAL mana it wouldn't see reprint, but it would still rock. At double the mana cost, it would be a tossup but I think people would still make it to Top 8s in Standard with it.

Man this is just what I need in my sac deck. Got the recurring nightmare and priest of gix infinite combo going, combined with mortician beetle and grave pact for infinite beetle pump and infinite creature removal. Not only does this provide a sac outlet, for my ophiomancers and bloodghasts combined with said grave pacts and mortician beetles, but it allows me to search for what I need for the combo. 5/5

@DarthParallax: If you really really wanted it to be diabolic, it would say, "Target creature's controller sacrifices it. Search your library for a card, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library." Makes it so you choose what creature gets sacrificed. Hell, if you wanted to be absolutely evil, it would say, "Choose a creature target player controls. That player sacrifices that creature. Search your library for a card, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library." That way, it gets around hexproof. >:D But at that point, it makes Demonic Tutor look like Wood Elemental in terms of power, so you know it's never going to happen.
