Flying and Deathtouch is a very good way to say, "Don't attack me." Five creatures with Flying and Deathtouch are an even better way to say it.

This is good, but it's essentially defensive. Who plays control with green?

Very, very good way to not get attacked by fliers. Or by anything, really. 5 deathtouchers with one spell!

Where is the token for this? No Paper token available yet there is a new art token in Modo.
Modo only token sounds like it will be released in another set soon :)

that's one big-ass stinger...but if you wanna see a REAL stinger, google saber wasp. puts this card to shame.

This guy is a BAMF. Green loves come into play effects and getting mass tokens for the effect is great! Immediatey getting tons of free tokens who can deal with flyers is crazy good for green (necessary in EDH) and reanimation loves the creature body. Granted there are guys like Wolfbriar and Verdeloth who can create massive tokens with ridiculous mana, but the real heroes of green can produce those effects conditionally instead making them great cards all the time instead of just some of the time. This guy is on par with examples like: Avenger of Zendikar, Regal Force, Woodfall Primus, Mitotic Slime, Yavimaya Elder, Primeval Titan and the other Command series fatty reprint Symbiotic Wurm.

Nothing says 'Stop attacking me' like a cloud of hornets.

Yes this card is primarily defensive however many cards can make it switch to offence (eldrazi monument, overrun, etc).

Also another very important factor is spot removal is VERY ineffective against this. Sure, path or bolt the queen but you still have to deal with my 4 1/1's that can block and kill any of your creatures (With a very few exceptions)

Finally this can be interesting to recur. Revielark is an obivous choice but makeshift manniquin is also a viable and interesting option. Instant hornet queen after the attackers step can easily turn the tide.

The major weaknesses i see here are trample and damage sweepers, since the Queen and her subordinates all have very low toughness.

When all the factors are considered i consider this is a 4/5.

If you have some Swarmyard in play, it puts your opponent in a position where they really cannot win. They attack, and loose their best creatures while you regenerate your Insects to do it all again next turn. If they don't attack, well, swing.

My playgroup despises Venomous Dragonfly as it is. Things just took a turn for the interesting.

Also, Arachibutyrophobia, Ichneumon Wasps don't possess stings. That's an ovipositor you're describing. You know, for laying eggs. Hymenoptera stings are actually specialized ovipositers.

The moar you know.

Yet another card owned by Pyroclasm. Red is so great.

7 mana for 5 flying deathtouchers. In green. So freaking great.

At their worst, they're one-time blockers to really hose your opponent's board position. Can't really complain about that. Reveilark + Doubling Season + Sigil Captain can set you up nicely.

I use this with that Pandemonium m12 card and Splinter Twin for lots of fun :

@Arachibutyrophobia

That's not a stinger, it's an ovipositor. It uses it to lay eggs, not sting.

Dies to Volcanic Fallout. Get one of these in Momir Basic though and you're set. No one wants to block one because hardly anyone has a useless flyer they'd like to die to a 1/1. You can attack with three and save the other two and no one wants to attack with their flyers and lose them. It's the best of offense and defense. Brilliant card.

If this was an older creature, it would read "Summon Swarm."

Dear God, I really want a beard sweeper. Perhaps for my Hunted Lammasu, his beard probably gets tangled all the time flying away from that horror.

@Drewsel: Which makes it all the more scary. You know WHAT they use those bigass ovipositors for?

No coincidence that this came out with the Commander sets - it's a very good card in EDH, where the extra 20 life means you're more likely to come across shenanigans where you'll need multiple creatures capable of trading. Throw in the splash possibilities of each color (white = Reveillark, blink and some recursion, blue = clone, bounce and copying, black = recursion, red = copying) and a lot of EDH decks are going to cherish this card.

Another way to counter it, besides Pyroclasm and other beard sweepers, is Stifle. Suddenly your opponent has spent (4)(G)(G)(G) on a single creature which is by itself (without its kids) strictly worse than Vampire Nighthawk.

And if you're playing with it... for funny shenanigans: Rite of Replication, preferrably kicked. Suddenly, 30 flying deathtouch insects on the battlefield (including the original ones). Lay Coat of Arms for ultimate fun.

For other funny shenanigans: Followed Footsteps. 5 flying deathtouch insects ber turn.

Wow! This can potentially be a 5 for 1. Leyline of Anticipation? Or even Yeva, both in Green.

I made a casual Insect deck today and successfully dropped this with two Doubling Seasons and a Parallel Lives out, thanks to Vorapede being annoyingly difficult for them to kill.

32 Hornets. Best game ever.

This guy is an immediate board stabilizer should you choose to just leave it up for blocks. How do you attack into an army of flying deathtouchers? Answer: You don't. The only real way to 1 for 1 this card is with sweeper effects and wrath is supposed to be better then a 1-1 trade.
Should you choose to attack it's 6 power in fliers across 5 bodies that nobody wants to block, nothing to scoff at.

And in combination with blink effects, or graveyard recursion, wow.

I’m the kinda guy that likes to set out two-drop death-touch/reach creatures like Deadly Recluse for an early game welcome mat.

Mid game, I’ll add a first strike +4 Angelic Destiny to swing. If there are too many pesky critturs in the way, I’ll add Indrik Umbra’s Lure effect and +4 for a creature based board wipe.

I’ve created an 9/10 first strike death touch flyer with Lure and totem armour for 2 + 4 + 6 mana, that can force 9 different creatures to block it and die, even if they are 8/8 tramplers, in one shot.

Imagine my joy, while building a Roon of the Hidden Realm deck and searching out “enters the battlefield” effects to blink with, when I ran across Hornet Queen.

I love deathtouch. I love it a lot. It tastes even better with first strike. Add an Ulvenwald Tracker like a cherry in your martini. All it needs is protection from Red, and maybe some new friends...
