This+Unwinding Clock in any kind of multiplayer game, even without the others, this nets an army in one pass

To the unwinding clock idea: Of Course! 4 card combos of jank cards are the PERFECT solution to a multiplayer table!

This and Unwinding Clock is reasonable. This, the rest of the Empires set, and Unwinding clock is dumb.

well, it's awesome if you can get all three out. that's all I have to say.

If you get all 3 out (in turn 4 or 5, with a bit of luck), pay 4 and tap them to get each turn:

- Gain control of target creature.
-Deal 3 damage to target player.
-Put five 1/1 soldier tokens on the battlefield.

Is that worth the 3 turns and the 3 cards you used in your combo, plus the 4 mana you have to pay every turn to get it moving? I don't know, I'm probably never going to play a deck based on these either way.

Oh yeah, another thing: if you ever make a deck based on the Empire trio, be sure to use 0-cost creatures like Ornithopter and Memnite so you can play creatures to defend you and still play the trio. It's just sad that that thopter's not in M12.

Ignoring the set bonus, this thing is the best colorless token generator.

This is in direct reference to Innistrad.

When you play the throne of empires you win, or you die.

@DeathDark

The above throne, and this Liliana:

Yes, I can see it. ;) It was the first thing I thought of, too. While the thrones look different, it's gonna be different artists... but Throne of Empires is in Liliana's colors. I'll be interested to know what happens.

The problem with this set of three is that it's a three card combo that doesn't win you the game and doesn't do much individually. There are too many better combos (Both in standard and out) that require less effort to do more for these three to be worth it.

I'd love to use these guys to make a creatureless white weenie control deck. Take playsets of the Throne, Crown, and Scepter, add Unwinding Clock, some defensive spells (Oblivion Ring and Journey to Nowhere spring to mind), Honor of the Pure, Day of Judgment, and perhaps Phyrexian Rebirth.
I don't know how workable that is, and I'm not sure I see myself buying the pieces of the deck to find out, but I'd love to see it in action. Just the sound of "white weenie deck with no creature spells" makes me smile.

Lies sir, lies and slander. Myr Turbine is clearly the best. While I can't say strictly better, (white/soldiers have different tribal support than artifacts/myr) I daresay it is quite superior in almost every respect!

Not only is it cheaper, it also has a secondary ability.

With the Crown/Scepter, quite formidible, I must admit, however.

Seriously pondering adding one of these to my Soldier commander deck, it's still a decent little card by itself with the theme for commander (or so I hope!)

This is kind of like owning a whole set in diablo 2. In the pic for Sorin's Vengeance, the carpets are the same color. Would Sorin spill blood for another? Hmmm Just as worthy of a creeping corrosion as the other toys I suppose

The crown symbolizes the social leadership and unites all parts of the empire. So I'm fine with the white-colored tokens. However, paying 5 mana to get one token feels far too weak. This isn't compensated by the overpowered version of generating 5 tokens. As a result, I rated this 2.5/5.

For me, the throne should be about the number / color of the lands you control. If not, it should have an ability with X in it's activation cost.

My suggestion: A card similar to Citanul Flute. The first version of the ability let's you search for a creature with cmc 1. The upgraded version let's you search for a creature with cmc equals or lower than the number of lands you control.

Darien, King of Kjeldor's chair? Makes tokens, and if you zap yourself with the scepter, you get 3 tokens. The Crown protects against threats that are too big.

Maybe a flavour connection?

"...if you control artifacts named Crown of Empires and Scepter of Empires."

Good to see that they anticipated the potential of this cycle to be broken by ___ at tournaments. Legacy tournaments. Unglued/Unhinged Legacy tournaments. Yeah...

I managed to crack all three at the prerelease. I was in a game later on that was stretching on, neither gaining or losing an inch. Suddenly, I had all three on the field and saw my opponent's face as realisation dawned on her. I won the next turn.

ah i like this card, i never use it but i like it.

iv only had one match against someone with each empire card out, and he told me he was gona wipe the floor with me, but i had 3 Master Thief's

so you may think these card are awesome but all it take is a card that destroys artifacts or control them and your master plan to get all these 3 cards out and win is foiled.

Even by itself this is a good card. Throw in the Crown and Sceptre and you have a really nasty set up. Definitely thinking of running up a deck featuring these (I quite like FatLenny's idea of a creatureless white weenie- may have to look into this...)

not at all practical and it won't get any tournament play; but Empire decks are hella fun to play.

I guess you can pair this off with Mentor Of The Meek in order to get searching for your other empire pieces. And/or use Parallel Lives to make it more effective at token generating.

It's a little bit like Elspeth, Knight-Errant. 4 CMC, produces a 1/1 soldier token each turn. Of course, those are the only things those two cards share.

Hm, I'm not sure how I feel about this artifact set.

On one hand, I don't really like the idea of cards that name the card they're supposed to go with. Magic is more about creating your own connections with cards, and stuff like this feels a bit too "Yu-gi-oh" ish.

On the other hand, I made a deck with these and it was pretty fun, although not powerful enough for Standard.

Overall, probably a 3.5/5

With or without the set, very useful. Start-up is not overly pricey, and it's cheap and easy to produce a legion of chump blockers.

@Ligerman30 except that Bitterblossom is a two mana enchantment.... That gets you faries... And is ridiculously obnoxious. This set of cards is just a little obnoxious and on the whole are not too hard to deal with

I have to totally disagree with Ligerman30, I think this is the kind of card that makes new players want to play M:TG. It is both Timmy and Johnny and so much fun to play in a kitchen table casual environment. Will this card ever be played in a tournament? Probably not, but that is not the point of the card. M:TH is in a game, meant to be played and to have fun doing it.

I once made a deck based off of the empires cycle.
4 Throne of Empires
4 Crown of Empires
4 Scepter of Empires
4 Fabricate
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Argivian Find
2 Drafna's Restoration
1 Tezzeret the Seeker
2 Unwinding Clock
1 Frantic Salvage
11 Island
11 Plains

With some luck the mana curve fits perfects for T3 assembly with Urza Lands. Example:

T1: Urza's Mine
T2: Urza's Tower, Crown of Empires
T3: Urza's Power Plant Scepter of Empires, Throne of Empires

Done in {G} you can use Ancient Stirrings and Crop Rotation to make this more reliable. That makes it so every one of your Forests has the potential to be the Urza land you need and ancient stirrings has a high liklihood of fetching one of these 6 cards.

Using Explore in the same deck should help, as should expedition map. Be flavorful and protect your empire with Tangle Wire and add some smokestacks to your powerplant.

Feel free to add another throne (of geth) to control your recent additions.
