Being able to protect himself as he builds up is a great asset. A built in Soul's Majesty means you can sometimes just sacrifice him for a handful of cards. And the ultimate is even more of a game-ender than before.

I'm going to have to play him to see if he's any better than the original.

This guy is amazing. I think Garruk in his mutiple forms (Garruk Wildspeaker) is probably the best overall planeswalker in my opinion.

And I loved the first Garruk, but this guy is just fantastic. Its a real shame I don't have a deck to put him in at the moment.... I guess the only thing I can do about that is make one!

I like how this card is powerful but balanced. Namely, it requires more build up and none of his ability is overpowered, even the horde of wurms can be dealt with some how. Compare to Jace and others whose abilities give +2 and have ridiculous final move...

Beast maker?

Sweet!

Green card draw?

Damn.

A more playable version of Liege of the Tangle?

I need to break him.

although I personaly perfer burn I got to give green props, they had the best planeswalker in M12 (or atleast the best new planeswalker) and his +1 and his ultimant (the -3 just dosen't fit) are just awsome. better than the origanal and i did not think I would be saying that to garruk and not chanra.

Where as Sarkhan Vol ultimate then dropping Sarkhan the Mad then ultimating, this Garruk uses his ultimate then you drop Garruk Wildspeaker and use his ultimate.

I'm tired of seeing a Doubling Season comment on every single planeswalker.

It DOES double the pw's starting loyalty. (In this case he can go ultimate first turn)
It DOES double the amount of tokens he makes.
It DOES NOT double the loyalty he gains when he activates abilities.

Loyalty counters are a COST not an EFFECT, Doubling Season only double's counters that are a result of an effect.

This isn't directed towards you I just see this on every planeswalker and people argue it all the time.

He's good if you replace one of those green's for a colorless...honestly.

Playable in: Standard Mono green or Green splashing white or splashing red.

EDH. Most decks that involve green major in green. Thus makes him very fun and playable.

Very nice card. +1 is really useful for both offense and defense. -3 is extroadinary, if you've successfully put out a beast token you're getting at least a Harmonize (though you have to be careful about only having that beast out, then getting pranked by a Lightning Bolt). The -6 is pretty nice, but most of the time you'd definitely be including him for the +1 and -3.

I'll be sad to lose the old Garruk because I love the ramp untapping lands allows me, and the Overrun ability has won me many a game, but I am a big fan of this new version. Being able to protect himself while simultaneously building counters is great, and refilling your hand later in the game could win it for you.

HuntedWumpusMustDie
★★★☆☆ (3.0/5.0) (2 votes)
I like the new art. Before he looked just like "one of the pack". The new art singles him out more as a leader. Suits his beefed up card.

Also, why have Garruk's Companion instead of Garruk's Packleader? Garruk's companion seemed almost tailored to work with Garruk Wildspeaker's +1 ability. It doesn't synergize nearly as well as this card. Garruk's packleader does perfectly however, Plus it would have worked wonders with Garruk's Horde as well... which is maybe why they didn't... but with the rampant cheap creature destruction available now, green needs all the creature support it can get!!

What is really interesting here is that for a limited amount of time both garruks will be playable in standard. Could be fun to make a garruk.deck with both garruks and a lot of mono green or red/green beat down. Overrun just came back too so you know it's good times all around.

His +1 can defend him while his -3 draws you lots of cards. And his -6? Win. It doesn't matter too much that he has GreenGreenGreen in his mana cost.

Unfortunately, Garruk's Packleader is not present in Magic 2012. WHHHYYYY??!!

This card is such a bomb for any format, but especially EDH. He runs perfectly by himself, creating 3/3 creatures to use his draw abillity on for 3 cards (harmonize). Not only is he individually powerful, but the combo potential is huge! Doubling season (obvious example): His +1 now creates 2 3/3 tokens and he can use his -6 the first turn he's out to create 2 6/6 tokens for every land you control. Compared to the old Garruk he looses ramp (which is always necessary in green) and overrun, but in EDH the card advantage you can gain and the ability to create tokens while gaining loyalty towards his ultimate is much better in the long run. Besides, if you're using Kamahl, Fist of Krosa as your general, you don't need a planeswalker to overrun just once - and the potential of using all his tokens with Kamahl is just crazy. Any permanent that can make dudes AND replace itself is a one man army.

To HuntedWumpusMustDie and everyone who has complained about the removal of Garruk's Packleader from the core: the planeswalker signature cards (cards with a planeswalker's name in the title) are part of a cycle (duh). With m12, they are doing a common and rare cycle. None of the other planeswalkers got to keep their uncommon sidekick. You can ask why all you want, but it might have had nothing to do with Garruk's Packleader at all. It might have been a Chandra's Spitfire or a Jace's Ingenuity thing. Or blame Gideon and Sorin. Or maybe they just wanted to add rares to your all Jace deck.

Looks like a good card but any power related comments have already been done. Instead, I'll point out that he looks like the Heavy from Team Fortress 2- only with more hair and without the minigun.

★★★★☆ (4.1/5.0) (5 votes)
There's a lot to say about new Garruk, Chandra, and Jace. most of it has already been said.

The drawbacks:

Garruk: costs more mana and is color dense.
Nullified by: Is Green.

Chandra: Doesn't seem 'focused' on mass damage output.
Nullified by: Learning how to combine your cards, noob.

Jace: Is not Jace the Mindsculptor
Nullified by: Is not banned.

If Innistrad is a graveyard block (which seems painfully obvious right now), then the milling will be great. If not, then Jace's +1 ability is still good and the Ultimate is the most insane thing you can do in Commander. Ever. They will never make a more powerful ability for Commander than that without breaking Standard in pieces, and probably breaking Commander in half.

Jace is probably the 'worst', because he is relatively narrow. Compare to Nissa Revane, though. He is definitely good and has at least 2 decks he can be put in. She literally has only one.

★☆☆☆☆ (1.8/5.0) (2 votes)
His first ability gives him a shield while giving him loyalty counters. It feels a bit weird that his second ability lets you draw cards, but it adds some flexibility to a green playstyle. I think it would've been better if it was something like "Creatures you control gain *insert ability or +/+* until end of turn, like Garruk Wildspeaker. If it gave trample, this would've been even more powerful (and cheap/broken) card.
The only downside is the 7 CMC, unless you're playing a green deck that loads mana/land, he won't be coming out too soon. He's a great support, and his last ability is more or less an endgame ability like Koth's third. All IMHO

this is a nice card +1 loyalty to put a 3-3 beast on the field to use as a blocker if you in a bad situation then - 6 to put a 6-6 wurm for every land thats over 5 considering garruk mana cost and if you have Overrun ,well i leave that to you imagination

I don't get it. Call me silly, but he seems good, really pretty good, but not great. I would have been waaaaaaaaay more impressed if his second ability was -1 or -2 for a wild growth. -3 is very steep, often to the point of being unusable as a second ability unless you're only interested in popping him, in which case, you're better off running Soul's Majesty or Regal Force (see: Ajani Vengeant)

I run one simply due to the fact that, yeah, the token-a-turn is great, especially because you don't really worry about them getting removed, but your opponents worry about them being in play; and, I'll be 100% honest, I love the wurms. That's the part that sold me.

NUTS

It means you have no need to fear of no creatures to defend you, or get land-F(ed) in the azz (His 3< card draw guarantees this, though i said 3< because you'd already have a 3/3beast before yu cast this ability).

This guy is arguably more effective in elves than Nissa Rivane herself is. The board position he can give you is ABSURD, particularly since elves can A) get him out quickly and B) provide extra blockers.

so amazing, you can even play him and use the 2nd ability right away, which is still great, especially since green doesnt often have draw abilities
fjdkslan
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
@Dr.Pingas : i think youre greatly underestimating his minus ability. he creates 3/3 beasts, so he's pretty easy to keep from dying, and even if you use his minus ability on the second turn he's out and draw 3 cards, you've already up 4 cards for the price of 2{G}{G}{G}. if you get to his ultimate and the opponent has some pesky permanent keeping you from going all in with your wurms, you can refill your hand with it to find an answer. i run 3 in a control-y version of jund i play, and i often find myself rarely even getting to the wurms because i love drawing cards with him so much

New Garruk 3.0:

Garruk Relentless 3Green
Planeswalker – Garruk
When Garruk Relentless has two or fewer loyalty counters on him, transform him.
0: Garruk Relentless deals 3 damage to target creature. That creature deals damage equal to its power to him.
0: Put a 2/2 green Wolf creature token onto the battlefield.
(3)

Garruk, the Veil-Cursed
Black or Green Planeswalker – Garruk
+1: Put a 1/1 black Wolf creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
-1: Sacrifice a creature. Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.
-3: Creatures you control gain trample and get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of creature cards in your graveyard.

No Garruk Wildspeaker, but I like him more than Primal Hunter. Should have had SOME ramping. That's what made Wildspeaker so phenomenal.

This Garruk makes green decks even more fun and all the more unfair. :)

It was very enjoyable to discover the ultimate way to use his -3 in the form of Omnath, Locus of Mana.

Build Omnath to about 15-20. Grab a good chunk of your deck, tap all your lands to get an even bigger (and more importantly less dangerous) number of cards, then cast every scary monster that was hiding under those stacks of cards and chuck anything you don't want for the rest of the game.

I don't want to be the "zomg sooper combo with Doubling Season!" idiot, but of all the Planeswalkers, I like the synergy between this one and DS the most. Getting twice as many 6/6 Wurms for your lands right away is just brutal. Running with Parallel Lives as well, and you've got yourself a massive army of Wurm tokens. I totally want to pull this off in EDH.

Getting reprinted in M13. Now here's my question, why are you all going crazy about the +1 and the -3? Yes, they're great. No doubt about it. But do you have ANY idea how devastating his -6 is? If they don't have a board wipe, that's usually game. I've had him drop 54 power on board on a freaking whim. That's insane.

I recently realized how good this card is for any Simic deck. Garruk's +1 allows for creatures like Gyre Sage, Cloudfin Raptors, or Experiment Ones to evolve at a nice rate, being +1/+1 per turn. His 2nd ability is basically Prime Speaker Zegana's ability in a way... and His 3rd ability... Its just awesome...
