such a good creature with perfect ability but restricted to artifact decks. Sadly... 4/5

One of the better metalcraft cards in the set as far as Constructed is concerned. Might single-handedly make Everflowing Chalice a 4-of in UW Control again. Such an on-curve threat when you drop Day of Judgment the turn after, blink him, then the turn after, cast Sun Titan.

4/3 fleir for for 4 would have been enough , but the ablity is amazing so many applications , and a great way to shake of infect counters

I feel that he's being overhyped so far, but maybe it's just me. He's in Bolt range and forces the controller to keep U open to blink, which slows their curve. He's good, just not amazing. If the card can disprove that to me I'll respect it, but so far it just feels like a U Vengevine with no recursion.

Limited bomb, conundrum sphinx won me a heap of games in m11, and this fellow, if you can throw him in a artifact deck is ridiculous, un-infectable, in-destroyable, vigilant attacker, all for U each turn, considering the counters there is in scars, i don't think there will be much use for U. on top of that, he is a 4/3 for UU2, constructed might see play in a artifact heavy deck, as a good beat stick that has ultra troll shroud for U. UW control will use him, due to the fact that he survives day of judgement.

Pseudo shroud is excellent due to its ability to still benefit from pump (well, there isn't exactly too much of that in blue but....whatevs). But someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can I actually blink it to save it in combat if damage no longer stacks?
2.5 because metalcraft is a stupid mechanic that will never be seen competitively

@demoninabottle: Yes, you can still blink it to save it in a bad combat situation as long as it's still somewhere within the declare attackers/blockers phase.
So this is useful if you're attacking with it and it runs into a combat trick that would kill it. It's even more useful as a blocker though, since you can have it block, blink it, and the attacking creature still counts as being blocked. (Won't help much against trample though.)
Or with enough blue lying around you could do both. As has been said, the blink effect also effectively gives it : Vigilance until EOT.

If you go to the scars product page and look at the picture with all the intro, booster and fat packs at the bottom, the deck that's RU and runs this sphinx has a Putrefax in it, while the GB deck has this sphinx in it.

the fact that you can declare it as a blocker and then remove it, so that it doesnt get damaged, and do this every opponents combat phase, is simply incredible. Someone above called it a "chump blocker" and i do believe that is an accurate de***ion. ;) Oh yea, and its a 4/3 flier. WHAT UP

I don't care what these naysayers say, he's awesome. Able to have a constant blocker that's slightly above the curve along with avoiding wrath and removal effects. Maybe my most favorite sphinx ever. 5/5

Can you exile it from your hand using it's affect?
On constructed: Not exactly worth building a deck around, but Metalcraft kind of requires just that. I say wait for Mirrodin Besieged. It should contain enough standard-worthy artifacts to easily make this playable. Note: It's good, but it's competing with Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
On limited: First-pick the sucker. A 4/3 flyer for four that is, properly played, impossible to kill? That's a bomb if I ever saw one.

@greyhour: No, the activated ability will only work while it is in play. This goes for most abilities unless otherwise stated.
This is like a baby Cerulean Sphinx with a similar, but much better ability. {U} on Cerulean saves it from removal, but you lose it to your library, {U} on this and you get it back right away and don't have to cast it again. Much preferable.
Cast two creates protection is replaced by play artifacts and blue mana protection.
One rarity less because of less synergy with flying bounce than haste bounce.

Argent Sphinx is a great card because of its blink ability. However since it relies on you having three or more artifacts on the field to activate it, using day of judgment is to risky in this Mirrodin artifact creature based set. Scourglass would work much better since it is an artifact by itself meaning only two more artifacts are required. And since scour glass can be used whenever you can tap it later so you have plenty of mana to use argent sphinx's ability. I once had a lucky draw and pulled out three argent sphinx's then scour glassed, blinked, and swung for 18 next turn with my three argent sphinx's and some other chump artifact creatures. My opponent was royally screwed at that point.

reasons why this cad is not broken/mythic -harder to splash to other colors -blue doesn't have many cheap efficient creatures -it isn't game changing -can still be bolted, doomblade, etc... Can't always keep an island untapped.
Pros -efficient - can't be easily killed -nice beatstick -blue

The fact that it isn't an artifact creature makes it way less playable, and non-sensical for flavor reasons. He's a metal sphinx from a metal plane, how is that not an artifact creature?

This guy is a freakin ALL-STAR in limited. Once you reach Metalcraft he is almost impossible to kill if you have {U} open. He can also go on defense by blocking then flickering himself before combat damage is assigned. So good, and really nice looking art.

@demoninabottle: Yes, you can still save it. Opponent swings with (say) a Phyrexian Crusader, you declare this as a blocker, in the "abilities and instants" step before the first strike damage step, opponent plays Sorin's Thirst targeting this guy, in response, you play his ability. The stack has to empty before the first strike damage step so your creature would be in the exile zone and unavailable to take the combat damage (or, for that matter, the damage from your opponent's ST).

"Argent" is French for silver. I think that was some kind of play on artifacts. Very funny, WotC.
Oh, by the way, your guys' "Blink" is more commonly referred to as Flicker.

Even without the Metalcraft, this is good, I mean a 4/3 for 4 without anything else is good (I like Phantasmal Dragon, but in some decks it could be easily destroyed, like my friend's zombie deck that uses Festering Goblin or my other friend that uses Gideon's Lawkeeper...)
