It took Wizards quite a while to reprint this goodie, but since them they constantly kept doing so.
For nostalgia reasons i prefer the original artwork, but this one is in fact actually even better.
It strongly reminds me of the invisibility cloak from Harry Potter.

This card is great for not only protecting your stronger creatures, but also for amplifying their threat. It's a little costly, but definitely worth it.

@U-caster: Sorry, but you can't. It's not green, so equipping it would be an ability from a nongreen source, and equipping IS targeted.

Why does the art look like Ravnica to me?
Whenever I looks at it, I imagine some flavor text about the Dimir guild.

Put this on your Platinum Angel. If your opponent can't get rid of the artifact or doesn't have Day of Judgement then you'll win by default.

This is so good, we still hestitate to use it in my casual group. We don't veto it, but when ppl use it they're looked down upon... kinda works, like a restricted thing. AMAZING, best equipment ever!
Update: Now we have allowed it in the casual group...
Gonna put 4 in my infect deck, oh the humanity! Day of judgement? Fine, my whispersilk will remain, ready to be put on the next creature I play.
Like this over lightning greaves, cause this is standard tournament legal.

"It's end game for opponents when Juggernaut wears it. "
thanks dude, your so right about that. my first standard tournament that quote won saved me from a mind control and it really is the best equipment in my opinion. I run 4 and will for as long as its legal. waiting for my Precursor Golem foundry deck to get here.

interestingly, if something like contempt is attached to the creature when it attacks you, it's effect still occurs due to contempt not actually targeting it as it is an enchantment.
one of my mates had platinum angel with this combo and said he had won and we had an argument :/
i don't play with him anymore

@justicarphaeton: Infect decks make better use of Whispersilk Cloak, but in most other cases, I find Lightning Greaves are more efficient since they have no equip cost. If only you could combine the effects of both...

Works extremely well in a ninjutsu deck or an Exalted deck ... and to those saying ninjutsu wont be able to work bla bla bla it will be able to work because ninjutsu (the ability) doesn't target the creature which makes shroud do nothing since shroud only works due to targeting a creature in an exalted deck the same thing happens... anyway yes it is awesome 5/5

There's a reason they keep reprinting this. Shround and unblockability wrapped up in {5} mana sorcery speed, also nice since the {5} can be paid in installments (casting cost of {3} + equip cost of {2} = {5}). Also, use with infect creatures to prevent removal and keep the poison count going.
Or you know, stay standard legal and mono-grey with BS Colossus for the same effect, minus the Greaves of course.

An excellent card, no doubt. Very satisfying to open, and only an uncommon too.
But you can't equip it to Gaea's Revenge. It can't be targeted by non-green sources - so unless this is green, you can't equip it. Non-green is not 'blue, red, white and black'.
If I equip Whispersilk Cloak to a creature with an Aura, then does the Aura fizzle?
SpencerDub
★★★☆☆ (3.5/5.0)(3 votes)
@Terris00 - "If I equip Whispersilk Cloak to a creature with an Aura, then does the Aura fizzle?"
Nope! The Aura only targets the creature as it is entering the battlefield. Once it resolves, it attaches to the creature-- there is no more targeting going on.
Now, if you tried to cast an Aura enchanting a creature already equipped with Whispersilk Cloak, then that would fizzle. But if you've got a creature already enchanted with Spider Umbra and you equip it with Whispersilk Cloak, nothing funny happens-- the creature is both equipped and enchanted.

while the affects are cost of this card are great, the shroud affect has one serious drawback, The official rules for shroud are as follows: 702.16. Shroud 702.16a Shroud is a static ability. "Shroud" means "This permanent or player can't be the target of spells or abilities."
meaning you can't target the equipped creature with even you're own spells or abilities that can directly target it. That includes other equipment.
if you put this on a creature that is already targeted by equipment or enchantments, does said creature loose the existing equipment or enchantments due to the cloaks shroud, or is the creature no longer being targeted by the equipment or enchantment once they are attached?????

This. Thing. Is. NUTS!!! I got one in the Phyrexia vs. the Coalition, and it ROCKS! I have a playset in my Eldrazi Green deck, and hitting every turn with an ever-growing Omnath, Locus of Mana is very quick...in fact, half the time, I don't even get out any eldrazi, because my opponent is dead from my Timbermaw Larva!

They didn't repeat this in M12 because they were afraid and embarrassed that people would say 'oh, they're just ripping off of the Deathly Hallows'. That's how awesome this Cloak is. It could be Death's very own. Obviously The Stick is the The Deathstick, The Elder Wand: Isochron Scepter (use FTV one).
I don't remember if Magic has anything like the Resurrection Stone, but I would expect there will be something from Innistrad Block that will fit quite nicely. =D

@HaseoYamazaki - that's true, but there are plenty of ways to get around the cloak from blocking your own abilities. In the end, all you have to do is move the cloak, do your targeting, and move it back. Cards like Puresteel Paladin (with metalcraft) or even Brass Squire help a lot with this.
Brass Squire also can protect from instants interrupting your switching, since he can put the cloak back at instant speed.

Phyrexian Juggernaut +Whispersilk Cloak. This simple, no-frills combo almost always works. Keep in mind this requires nothing other than a solid land base, so it'll work anywhere

I'm stating the obvious, but this is ideal for creatures with a 'when this creature deals combat damage to a player, do-something-cool' effects.
I would prefer if it was hexproof, not shroud, so that I could super-duper enchant a guy in my Zur the Enchanter EDH, but you can just do the enchanting beforehand. And hexproof instead of shroud would make this ridiculous.
@RuleofZod Since the equipment has already been attached, the action of equipping it has already happened, so the target is not being negated.

trygon predator
wanderwine prophets
blinding angel
sphinx ambassador
hypnotic specter (and other specters)
ashling the extinguisher
spawnwrithe
cold-eyed selkie (and other draw-when-deal-damage guys)
augury adept (one of my personal faves)
dimir cutpurse
the nephilims
rith, the awakener; vorash, the hunter; teneb the harvester, et al
skullbriar, the walking grave
And hexproof instead of shroud would make this ridiculous.
