Played with the correct cards and Broodstar can become a nightmare for the opponent. The artifact lands from Mirrodin, the borderposts from Alara Reborn, and the mana accelerant myrs from Mirrodin, all have enough synergy potential to allow Broodstar access into play as early as turn four, with a power/toughness total of at least five.

Pretty much worse than Master Of Etherium. Master of Etherium looks better, too.

if it were an artifact, it could get better than master of etherium, when it costs only 2 mana

but its not

love this guy. in my opinion he is better than master of etherium, but thats because in my casual I normally drop him turn 2 or three as a 4/4 or 5/5 minimum.

love the artwork here to, the only improvement he could use is being an artifact himself. either way a definite 5/5 in my book.

Like like this guy. Not only does he get stronger as you play more Artifacts. But he also will cost less!

Flying is nice too.

He isn't an artifact or a lord, but he's got flying and wouldn't be too expensive in the right deck. I say he is equally on par with Master of Etherium as he has some evasion.

he has flying and infinity
master has gives others 1/1 and is a artifact himself

both are pritty even and i use both as my power in my main deck

A great card in an artifact deck. Pretty much useless otherwise obviously but the more artifacts you can get out, the better. One of my favorite blue flyers and it features great artwork.

The card isn't even remotely good unless you have six or more artifacts in play. Which you seldom will.

Hmmm, let's see, an 8/8+ flyer for two mana? Well, I guess that's a good deal...

In a void, this guy's probably a better game-ender for artifact decks than Master of Etherium since he's got evasion. Still, I'd say this is the worse card (not to say it's bad by any means). For comparison:

Broodstar:
Harder to chump block (either should kill anything in its path a few turns in, flying or no)
Possible to cast for UU
Having a high CMC is useful in a few cases

Master of Etherium:
3 CMC, can be played for U with two Etherium Sculptor (why wouldn't you run those in an artifact deck?) - basically it's always going to be cheaper
Very easy turn 2 3/3 or 4/4, racking up early damage
For the above reasons, much more useful against aggro decks, since you can start picking off their weenies quickly and easily
Can be tutored out on turn 5 with Tezzeret the Seeker with no mana acceleration, and earlier with acceleration, and he survives with one loyalty left
Fabricate
Tinker, if you're desperate
Played at instant speed with Master Transmuter
An extra draw with Vedalken Archmage
Helps with Metalcraft
Artifact creature lord, meaning you're likely making a lot of other creatures a lot more powerful; especially handy with Tezzeret's ultimate
Each after the first gives all others +2/+2
Protects your lands from being wiped if your opponent can turn permanents into artifact creatures, and lets you run, say, Mycosynth Lattice/March of the Machines for a one-sided Armageddon

Of all the advantages each has against the other, I'd say that the strongest by far is the ability of Master of Etherium to at very least slow down aggro decks during that perilous early game. Sure, it's more likely that Broodstar will connect for 8 on turn 6, but that doesn't matter much if you die on turn 4. Of course, if you're going heavy artifacts, what's to stop you from running both?

Oh, come ON!!! It's a freaking giant fly that's like IMMA FIRIN MAI LAZORZ!!! And his name is BROODSTAR!!!!!!!!!!! 5/5

"Of course, if you're going heavy artifacts, what's to stop you from running both?"

Deck space. Honestly, how many absurdly-large creatures are required to win the game? A playset of MoE is the absolute most you'll need.

It's pretty clear that Master of Etherium is the better candidate, unless you forgot that competitive players gave up on Broodstar Affinity shortly after the release of Darksteel.

@boday1 Clearly you haven't used the Metallic Dreams deck that comes with one of these in it. The deck is packed with artifacts with 2 CMC, most with the ability to be tapped for mana. Plus the fact that there are artifact lands as well which assist in getting this card out as early as possible. I dare say this is a lot better than Master of Etherium in the right situation, with the only downside of not boosting other artifact creatures. But Master of Etherium is in the deck to fill that role out nicely.

A set of these is $7 cheaper than a set of Masters. Does that swing the odds in Broodstar's favor?

I love inverse efficiency spells. The less you pay, the better the spell. For a more recent example, look at Blasphemous Act. I'll use the same argument here, you will NEVER, EVER pay that full cost on this guy. It will always be 9 or less.

Still, it's funny to realize this is a 8BlueBlue 0/0 creature that does nothing outside of artifact decks, not that anyone would ever play it like that.

@Boday1 - with 5 artifacts this is a 5/5 flyer for 5 CMC. That's not 'remotely good'?

It was the first affinity bomb, but not as good anymore. What really kills it is the double U on it's casting cost.

If you were around for Mirrodin, you know you hated this card.

I didn't.

I had one!

I'm shocked I don't see this played more. Seems like a really cost efficient beater for certain types of decks.

I've demolished my friends so many times with this in my Myr deck. Myr Battlesphere right before him usually takes care of the whole affinity thing (assuming your field has any creatures basically), Oh look, it's an 8+/8+ flier for 2U, and then Neurok Stealthsuit, or better yet Whispersilk Cloak.

mycosynth lattice makes this card far more evil. Slap it onsoul foundry and keep making more until they are free and eating everything.

I basically never give 5 stars as a rule. This guy was born to break the rules. In the top five best creatures ever printed....

Quite possibly one of the best targets for Hedron Matrix.
