I disagreee with the assertion that this is "one of the most powerful cards in the game" because large flying creatures can only go so far. in fact this card, having no survivibilty mechanics or trample, can be stopped quite simply by a Bitterblossom, or for that matter ANY spot removal EVER, this includes: Terror, Dark banishing, Swords to Plowshears, Path to exile, Condem, Oblivion Ring, Rend Flesh, Seal of Doom, Bant Charm, Death Rattle, Path to Peace etc........

But it still is a massive flyer.....3 out of 5

I think he's a little better than a 3 out of 5--under the right (and, in the correct deck, fairly likely) circumstances, he's an 8/8 flier you can whip out on turn 5 or so, even without any artifact lands.

Why does a giant tadpole get bigger if u have alot of artifacts?

this is easily one of the most powerful cards in the game. i've had him up to a 32/32 flyer monster who can swing one hit kills. he is invaluable in an artifact deck and under the right condition he's just 2 blue to bring out. all in all, this is a perfect card, it leaves not even one thing to be desired.

Further: broodstar's main impact is that he doesn't have to count as a finisher, his main role is generally just intimidation, you're opponent is going to plan every attack with care when they know that they have to keep a blocker on the field just for him. if your opponent is using something to stop him then you combine his attack with a planeswalker assault, lay waste to them using Tezzeret to make it so that all those cute little artifact boosters become amped up powerhouses. Use his effect mainly with Master of Etherium though (or cloudheath drake, a decent 3/3 flyer that can mop up all those insignificant others), even if they manage to stop Broodstar and Master of Etherium, they won't be able to attack unless they're 100% sure they'll kill you. the ultimate move though is to combine master of etherium, broodstar, and akroma's memorial so that nothing has the possibility of stopping you

Broodstar i believe is worth a 5 star rating, since you can assist him with 3 equipment cards and he can kill (in a good artifact deck) in round about 8-10 turns.
Cranial Plating, Whispersilk cloak, voltaic construct, surestrike trident, attack with cranial plating and Whispersilk cloak, do whatever damage you do there, then Tap 2 mana to untap broodstar and tap 4 to attach surestrike tap and do direct damage again.

I built a deck around Broodstar, with artifact lands and a ton of 0 and 1 cost artifacts. I was able to drop him and win no my third turn, with a little help from a Cranial Plating. This card always has a place in artifact decks in my opinion.

Too bad it isn't an Artifact Creature. Not a 5.

@Alzhander: The absolute soonest you would have a Broodstar out is turn 3 if you're going first, -possibly- on turn two yet still with a very minimal chance if you go second, but this is @ssuming you have a completely perfect hand. Given that Broodstar's absolute minimal casting cost is BlueBlue, you would need eight artifacts in hand by turn two, two of them being two Seat of the Synods, up to two 1 cost artifacts, one 2 cost and the rest would have to be 0. Getting a Cranial Plating out on the field and attached to a Broodstar that can attack -can- happen turn 4, but with all of the above mentioned, this seems extremely unlikely to happen.

Sorry, just nitpicky and really late to reply on this, since apparently you can "win the game with Broodstar swinging with a Cranial Plating attached on turn three" which just reeked of lies and slander.

Poor Broodstar. You were THE affinity card when Mirrodin came out. Then Darksteel brought us Arcbound Ravager, and everyone forgot all about you.

i use just one of these in my artifact evasion deck. just one because he is not an artifact but he is just a complete badass when he actually gets on the field that i can't leave him out. I mean an 8/8 flier for BlueBlue?! better than master of etherium in certain cases because of the flying. also i never drop him for more than BlueBlue. wish i could give him a 5/5 but he is not an artifact himself. if he is not answered though, he is often game. good balanced card with amazing art. 4.5/5

Hey, at least he got some time in the limelight. Many cards just get abandoned to shoeboxes after a draft. Broodstar is still fine for a casual affinity deck (yes, such things can and do exist).

Great a really expensive flying Master of Etherium that isn't even an artifact and doesn't strengthen your other artifact creatures how nice.

@Keiya:
3 years late on the reply here, but mana rocks are a thing. What he is suggesting is possible, just rather unlikely. Enough sol rings and artifact lands might be able to pull it off. Add in a Tolarian academy and it just becomes easy to cast on turn 2, but that's because tolarian academy is beyond broken.
