Don't discount the extra toughness; Wall of Hope will die faster than this one.

I personally prefer Wall of Hope to this because it was one of the first cards I ever got (awesome). Also, am I correct that this one only gains you life from combat damage, while Wall of Hope can gain you life from, say, Lightning Bolt?
Yes, I know it will die, but I'm not going to be one of those people who say "Oh. Vampire Nighthawk sucks because it dies to the bolt andPath to Exile." That's stupid.
Oh, and all of that being said, I like this guy a lot.

dunno, I think I'd have both if I had one in a deck. Probably a wall deck with Grand Melee and things like Propaganda for multiplayer? with Vent Sentinels for some kill con.

Perimeter Captain in most respects outclasses this nowadays; unless your opponent attacks with 3 power creatures a lot.

Don't underestimate how good this can be in a Felidar Sovereign lifegain deck. This can make what would otherwise be a simple decision to attack with everything into a real decision, and with 4 toughness, it has respectable size and can guard against lots of threats and live to tell the tale, from Wild Nacatl to Boros Reckoner. Valor Made Real can also potentially get you a ton of life.
