While the art is amazing, it does not match the card at all. That creature is in no way blocked.
But still, awesome art and flavor text.

This can be declared before combat damage is assigned, so you don't even have to lose a chump blocker. The downside to this is that removal is commonly used on an evasive creature that otherwise couldn't be stopped. This won't be able to stop a flyer/intimidator/etc. effectively.

Love it, seeing play for sure, 1 cost removal when those pesky Fog Bank start blocking me.

I'd call it more of a combat trick than straight removal.

Sadly Its BLOCKED creature not BLOCKING creature so only works when YOU block a creature not when a creature blocks me

This was definitely my favorite trick to use at the prerelease.it won't get abused in standard, but it definitely has a place in my opinion.

Amazing value for one mana. It'll really keep your opponents on their toes, too, as they would see the small amount of mana you have left and think that you couldn't possibly cast anything powerful. Just when they determine that it's safe to attack... BOOM, game won!
OK, there's a bit more involved in winning a game, but that doesn't stop it from being an awesome card.

In exchange for a {2} discount from Rebuke, you simply need to be able to block the creature in some way. Combos with Flash Foliage for a pointlessly expensive rebuke that is nonetheless far more amusing.

A common that is almost a strictly better Righteousness, when each are used for their typical purpose. Power creep, much?

Yeah this is better then Righteousness in most cases. Exceptions being multi blocking, rare case of surviving a burn spell, and things like Meglonoth

This is definitely a solid 4/4. It's not as versatile as something like Swords To Plowshares since the creature must actually ATTACK you. However, you also wouldn't be giving your opponent life with this card. I wouldn't say it's usually better than Righteousness since you could make a lot of use with the blocking creature's +7/+7. Fling it to cause a lot of damage to your opponent, sacrifice it for life or any other number of things.
It's even better than you think SiamKor... when you declare your blocker, before damage is dealt, the character is considered blocked! So you can destroy it before any damage is dealt (permitting other spells and abilities don't interrupt this)

You better have your deck a little on the 'flying' side. Helps a lot in the blocking business. There's still unblockability, intimidate and fear to deal with though.

Edit: @Jarryftw: heya, thanks! I knew that, that's the normal use I gave the card in single-player. But since I now play multi-player a lot more often, I was just pointing out that the card is flexible enough to let you destroy the attacker after it deals damage, if you so choose (i.e., if it is attacking another player, or if it is being blocked by your Boros Reckoner).
--------
Great in multi-player.
Let's say opponent A attacks opponent B with a 7/7 trampler. Opponent B blocks with a 0/4 wall, taking 3 damage and losing the wall.
You can Smite the 7/7 trampler after the combat damage (before the end of combat), because it is still a "blocked creature."

@GearLeader plz tell me how are you going to use smite on a blocking creature? unless you want to kill your own attacking blocked one with it - it that case good luck

I currently use this in my Esper deck. Use this with Lingering Souls and then if i have to, flash in Snapcaster Mage to use smite again.

Here's a tale: my opponent at a draft was playing Orzhov-Dimir and had me down to 2 life while I had the ability to block all of his primary attackers profitably. He swung with everything, and after I blocked, he smote his own creature to double-extort me for the win.
I gained a new appreciation for Orzhov that day. I already loved this card by then.

The fact that it is really easy to get confused between "blocked" and "blocking" aside, this is a really nice card for only one mana.

Tons of constructed decks run creatures that have evasion...
Unblockable, Fear, Intimidate, LandWalk, Protection From, Flying... Not to mention indestructible..This is not even close to condemn or path to exile..
Not worth the high rating it is currently getting...

TERRIBLE missed opportunity.
Only in hindsight do we see it.
Should have first appeared in THEROS block, I hope they reprint it with New Art! But I also wish they'd given the name ''SMITE'' to a more impressive card!! >:P
(Oh the current mechanics Are Good, I'm happy to see this card too, it's just SMITE could have become as resonant and awesome for a Textless Promo as Lightning Bolt or Damnation)
(I know it sounds weird to say, but it's something that destroys GODS =D In Mythology, Zeus the Thunderer's bolts would be something even other gods feared to be struck by! It FITS darnit! Get rid of anything with Bestow, any Gods, any God-created Tokens, any Emissary from Nyx, and as a plus, kick Darksteel in the Nuts & Bolts just because :)

Excellent card for Orzhov. It's cheap, making it an ideal extort trigger, and it's removal for creatures which they can easily block with the likes of Basilica Guards, Basilica Screecher, and Kingpin's Pet. The other white guilds can also use it, though Boros might be a bit busy attacking with its creatures.

Listen, I don't understand how people are thinking that this card can happen BEFORE combat is concluded. The card CLEARLY states BLOCKED creature, BLOCKED is a past tense adjective. The action of blocking doesn't happen during the assign blockers step then by my understanding. A creature can not be considered as BLOCKED until the action has already passed, be it that that blocked in all grammatical correctness is past tense (meaning that the action of blocking had already taken place). I figure being the multi-million dolor business that Wizards is i am assuming they have someone who meticulously words cards so they can be used only as they are worded and not to be construed by people who clearly don't know the difference between "Am going to shoot him" and "I shot him" it is as simple as that... Now don't get me wrong this is a great card, making it so you could destroy a 900/900 creature with a 1/1 after blocking has happened, but you cant seriously say that this would happen prior to the actual act of blocking. So Wizards if you could PLEASE respond to this Smite discussion page or to my email for my groups clarification that would be fantastic. Thank you very much.

BaneReckoning: Read the bloody ruling: "A "blocked creature" is an attacking creature that has been blocked by a creature this combat"
It makes perfect sense, grammar wise. You attack, I block you. You are now blocked.
It also makes sense rules wise. You attack. We enter the declare blockers phase. I declare my blockers. You are now blocked. I then have an opportunity to play spells and instants before the damage step. I play smite. You are blocked. You are dead.
