Yes, white loses Holy Day. But they get an unlimited blocker at common for 3! This is really more significant than people are going to give it credit for.

This was made to be comboed with Indestrucibility.

Yeah but Holy Day didn't need another card to be a good combo. Still when wither rotates out this card will become significantly more powerful.

Palace Guard + Righteousness, anyone?

Don't underestimate this guy. Unless you're fighting a flying army, he can stop an opponents entire attack. Trample is his main weakness.

so say im blocking 8 1/1 creatures with 2 palace guards at normal strength at once, do my two creatures get destroyed? does the defense of teh palace guard diminish each tim it blocks a creature in one turn?

Yes, I'm pretty sure both palace guards die, along with 2 attacking 1/1 creatures.

What I'm wondering is if I use 1 Palace Guard to block say, 5 4/4 creatures. Do I get to block all 5, therefore taking no damage that turn & losing Palace Guard, or does it only block 1 of the 4/4 creatures, killing Palace Guard instantly, and letting the other 4 spill over and damage me for 16 damage?

Same question as "bauble". Can I block 2 (or more) 4/4 (or tougher) creatures, or does the 1st kill off PG and let the other(s) through?

Oh, and even though Holy Day rotated out we will still have Brave the Elements in Zendikar now at least.

Palace guard+Armored Ascension+Indestructibility

meet the great wall of china

@bauble+vituevsvice: the guard dies, but the other attackers wont get through because he destracted them long enough that the retreating creatures push them back

i noticed that it says it can block any number of creatures, and it doesnt say it cant block flyers, so im wondering will it block flyers because of it saying any number of creatures.

@Guest1538545082

Its ability don't change WHAT it can block, only HOW MUCH it can block. The Guard still must be able to block the creatures.

Man, I love cards like this. Add this guy to elspeth and you've got an infinite blocker for a while.

Palace Guard and Brave The Elements is a good combo if you have a lot of one color comeing your way, but play Indestructibility and your all most given the win

ive actually used that armored acention + palace guard + indestructibility combo. it makes for complete domination. its hard to let an attacking creature survive, let alone deal combat damage to player. i sat back the rest of the game and laughed.

How about Shield of the Righteous along with the other ideas.

if palace guard can block multiple creatures, will it deal the same amount of combat damage to all attacking creatures it blocks? or will you still have to assign damage?

I had this attached to a magebane armour. now i had a 3/8 creature that could block any number of monsters! My friend had like 3 2/3 creatures on his side, and i killed him with this one card. awesome card. gets 4/5 for me.

All those combo are OP. That being said unless you can shroud this guy all your mana spent making him a "Great Wall of China" goes out the window. If you can enchant then shroud this bad boy you will be taking no damage hard to do but against most decks its an instant I can't lose(not instant I win).

Even better is that Day of Judgment on this card with Indestructability won't remove it (will lose all the enchants). Then if you next turn a Open the Vaults to bring it all back. I would pay to see the look on your opponents face.

Heres a question regarding something I never really encounted until this card.
What happens if he blocks 2 tramplers, both with power greater than 4?
Say 2x 6/6 tramplers.
Does 4 (2+2) damage get through, or 8 (2+6)?

Normally a trampler assigns damage up to the blockers toughness, and the rest tramples over.
I'd ask the judge at my local, but since he's started just making shit up recently I don't exactly trust his judgement.

@billweston: "so say im blocking 8 1/1 creatures with 2 palace guards at normal strength at once, do my two creatures get destroyed? does the defense of teh palace guard diminish each tim it blocks a creature in one turn?" if you choose both palace guards to block all 8 at once, they are both double blocking each creature and as the multi blocking rule goes your opponent then splits the damage divided as he chooses among the blocking creatures. in which case he would choose 4 to deal 1, 4 times to 1 palace guard and the same to the other killing both your palace guards and 2 tokens (of your choice). if you want to survive such an attach give them first strike and at least 1 can live in that case. or indestructibility like these guys mentioned

as for psyklone it would trample over 2 and 6, because while he is blocking 2 creatures 1 is more than enough to kill it meaning that the extra besides what is required to kill him jumps over to the controller of the cards life. so yeah it would do 8

Alright, I recently let a friend play with my goblin deck, and one of my cards is Goblin War Drums. So now I only have my Palace Guard out and he attacks me. Since my Palace Guard can block any number of creatures I was a bit confused. I ended up deciding that I couldn't block since Goblin War Drums said it had to be at least two creatures. Was I correct in my decision?

How does Palace guard work in blocking Nacatl War-Pride?

I ran into something interesting last night that I wasnt really sure about. I had a regular powered Palace Guard Palace Guard on the board, and my opponent attacked with several cards, including a Prized Unicorn. I played a Righteousness, and we decided that the palace guard could block them all, since he was still blocking the Unicorn...

Was this correct? Does anyone have input on this?

I've always really liked this card. I thought it was really good, although i did not know why. To hopefully help others that are confused:

palace guard can block any number of creatures. this has nothing to do with combat damage, it has to do with the second step of combat, assigning blockers. This is where I always got confused.

Lets say your opponent attacks you with 5 4/4 tokens, and you only have a palace guard . You block all the tokens with the palace guard. Now combat damage takes place, and the first token and the palace guard fight, and the palace guard dies, and the token lives. now the other tokens are still blocked, but have nowhere to do their damage.

That is why the palace guard is good. Think of it as an inverted, upside down Prized Unicorn.

@PlankEyeWilly- yes you were correct. I think this was made to trump the Prized Unicorn Ha Ha.

Several questions to be answered in here, not going to post who i'm replying to.
When equiped with gorgon flail, he can at most kill one creature for each point of power he has (if it's just him and the flail, that's 2) the rest of the creatures he blocks wont take any damage, and therefore wont die.

This guy can block an entire nacatl war-pride by himself. They must each be blocked by one creature, and each one will be... by the same one creature.

You are correct with the goblin war drums... he can be one of the two blockers for each of the opponents creatures, but you still need one more for each of them... two palace gaurds can block everything together though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ghostly Possession it's a cheap way to set up a very thorough wall. he can now block their flyers as well, and takes no damage. Who gives a flying poop-waffle if he can't deal damage anymore, he doesn't do that much anyways. Not quite indestructibility, but durn close.

This, with Heart of Light is good defense that doesn't fall to infect.
