Quite the good creature. Definitely a competitor for black/green's two drop spot.

World of Warcraft in creature form- awesome but you end up with no life.

Astonishingly powerful. Easily one ofthe best green/black two drops in the metagame.

The more I play this guy, the more I love him. He's one of my all-time favorite two-drops already.

Equip it with Behemoth Sledge to make it a 6/6 with Trample that nets you +4 life per turn!

I just love him. Goes well with Jund Hackblade and Woodlurker Mimic: The three most potent two-drops in B|G

A zombie leech, now I have seen everything.

Anyways, this is a great card. One of my friends have four in a deck and they are very formidable, especialy since they can use their ability on opponents turns to block with a 4/4.

doesn't look like it can do much, but incredibly good in actual play

"shame you can only use it once each turn"

Mainly because it would be way too overpowered, an easy and blatant turn 3 kill if no one is able to intervene. I would love if you could use it as many times as you want but again it would be "ohpee"

Excellent two-drop in Jund or just B/G aggro. It can survive any Volcanic Fallout/Pyroclasms that your opponents might play to wipe the board and then punish them for even thinking about killing the leech :)

@bigben013

I would love for you to do that too. I'd declare no blockers, you'd pump it 9 times, be at 2 hp, and I'd Lightning Bolt Shock Naya CharmDarigaaz's Charm you to win or, in a white or green, Holy Day or Fog respectively and then laugh at you nearly killing yourself like an idiot. And just to hit domain for my example, Unsummon Boomerang Terminate. And the best part of these examples? They're pretty much all commons and mostly in standard right now. You would be an idiot to pay his cost to try to turn 3 win.

@OpenSeasonNoobs

You seem to be under the odd impression that it somebody were to wield a card like that, then they wouldn't have built their deck around it....

DO you honestly thing that somebody would pitch all their life to a single spell without duressing/negating your hand? Drop a Canopy Cover on the leech and half the things you used as examples aren't viable anymore. Secondly, you can't Naya Charm players. Thirdly, nobody plays holy day/ fog in the current T2. Have you ever heard of suicide decks!?

Durh, OpenSeasonNoobs.
That's why you attack, see how they block/don't block and THEN pump it accordingly.
And you can only pump it once each turn.

Everyone acts like this card is overwhelming, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. The "once per turn" restriction prevents this from being broken. Further, Wizards decided to actually be fair with this card--it's not like the creature's power and toughness exceeds its cmc with no drawback. Rather, it's a two-colored 2/2 for two mana that allows you to pull off some combat tricks, avoid having your leech burned to death with the notorious Lightning Bolt, and pay 2 life to deal 2 more damage. It seems perfectly reasonable.

To those of you who look at this card and see the drawback: Your opponent will likely be dead long before it becomes an issue.

Probably very powerful card in a duel... however, I play only multiplayer, and this card is pretty useless there

For a common he's hard to find, seeing as no one in my area has him in their commons bins, or folders. I'm looking for 4 to put in the new Glissa deck I'm putting together for Extended. Awesome card with Creakwood Liege on the field.

Trying to resist the urge to answer OpenSeason's comment..

I remember when Alara Reborn came out and we were drafting this guy beat my face so hard I wanted to reach into my wallet and give my opponent $2 and tear this card apart =)) and yes that was during the game

needless to say got myself 4 playsets of this

I look at it less as a Tarmogoyf and more as a Flesh Reaver with only half the drawback.

Unless your facing a mirror, the drawback is not an issue. By the time it matters you have run out of steam and lost, or just flat out won.

4 damage is a 5 turn clock, and a 2 drop is pulling that kind of weight. Not to mention you have other creatures and burn (blightning). 4/4 this early is hard to block, because loosing a creature to prevent damage is seldom worth it.

Many, many games have been decided by the following curve:

Turn One Savage Lands
Turn Two Land, Leech
Turn Three, Blightning
Turn Four, Bloodbraid Elf

I have always wanted to use this leech with Psychotic Fury :)

Have you played against this card?

It's not that it has combat tricks and blah blah blah, it's because at no mana cost, you can beat or trade with creatures all the way until around turn 5. Using removal on a 2-drop is usually not very pleasant.

It's not that his guy kills you by himself, it's that on their turn 3, they are swinging at you with a 4/4 while casting stuff like blightning, maelstrom pulse, lightning bolt, or terminate only to follow it up on turn 4 with a bloodbraid elf, which will likely mean more damage (lightning bolt, blightning, another putrid leach) or removal (lightning bolt, terminate, maelstrom pulse). You get overwhelmed by the fact that their 2-drop will kill you if unanswered.

Saying this isn't overwhelming is like saying tarmogoyf isn't overwhelming. It's not that it will kick your butt alone, but the fact that it is just a 2 mana investment makes it lethal.

A two drop that eats Woolly Thoctar and is a 5 turn clock.

@bigben013

Well, of course being able to pump it as much as you want to would be really overpowered, and something that Wizards wouldn't want to be in the game! That's why they printed Immolating Souleater!

Just kidding, I get your point.
