Combined with Liquimetal coating/mycosynth lattice you could potentially copy anything on the board; or destroy a legendary creature for 5-9 colorless mana.
what would happen if you used Argent Mutation on a planeswalker (Say, Jace, the Mind Sculpter), then play this, copying that. What happens at the end of your turn when it is no longer a artifact? Does it copy what it was or is it an invalid target or what?

@Atemu1234: It would never get that far. Two Planeswalkers with the Planeswalker subtype "Jace" would exist at the same time, so they'd both die.
'306.4. If two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type are on the battlefield, all are put into their owners' graveyards as a state-based action. This is called the "planeswalker uniqueness rule."'

@Grumman: Now with the upcoming update on the PW and Legendary rules, atemu1234's scenario could technically happen. In this case, when something copies another permanent, it only copies what's printed on the card, and not what's affecting the card. So if you target your opponent's Jace Beleren with Liquimetal Coating's ability, and then cast Sculpting Steel copying Jace, you'd end up with a regular Jace Beleren of your own. Because Sculpting Steel doesn't copy the effect of Liquidmetal Coating, your newly copied Jace Beleren is not an artifact.
As another example, if your opponent animates a Gideon Jura and you have Vedalken Orrery on the battlefield, you can cast a Clone and end up with your very own Gideon :)

This doesn't target the artifact, so you can get the hexproof things
Also put it on that golem that makes 2 other golem! Go golem tribal with splicers!

While I am currently running this in my artifact-laden mono EDH deck, I came to the realization today that this makes a good card for potentially any and every EDH deck. It is colorless, of course, so it can go into any commander's deck, and even if your deck specifically doesn not have any powerful artifact worthy or writing home about, the format is lousy with powerful artifacts to copy. Yes, it does get around shroud/hexproof. So for 3CMC, why shouldn't every deck have access to the most powerful artifact on the field at the time. I will be sure to add this to all my decks. 3.5/5 stars (only because by itself it does nothing)

...shutup, i know it'll never happen
I like to throw this on a Prototype Portal. That way I can repeatedly copy anything I need, including Prototype Portal.
Stupid combo that may be awesome but probably will never happen:
Protoype Portal (imprinted with Sculpted Steel) + Ashnod's Transmogrant + Domineer + Liquimetal Coating = Repeatable Control Magic +1/+1
Sure, I could just use Memnarch, but what else is casual for?
