I see a desperate combo with Apostle's Blessing, but I don't think this card will ever see much Constructed play.

wow now UR can deal with anything. liquimental coating is good. but it can b dealt with. idk it prob is better than this. but my play groups standard has become very hateful towards artifacts since we all got swords lol. they gave my UR deck a planeswalker destroyer. neat.

How does being an artifact protect you from infection again...?

Sucks pretty much. The effect is so tiny, and with 3 mana it's too expensive. Not worthless, but just not playable in my opinion.

"Why would you use this when you have Liquimetal Coating?"
I think wizards are trying to push the shapeanew decks for standard when zendi rolls out of standard...
If you are using LIquidmetal and don't have Shimmer Myr in play, they know exactly what you can do. This gives you an element of surprise.
Oh, so you want to try to Doom Blade my Indomitable Archangel when I have 2 artifacts out, huh? Well, Argent Mutation, it fizzles!
Also, it draws a card. In the situation I gave, thats good card advantage right there.

I enjoy how much of a boss Karn is. He just casually reached out and owned that beast.

Might could be useful in Limited with the Artifact/Nonartifact dichotomy running around. If you can't get your hands on Liquidmetal, of course.

It wouldn't have been unacceptable if it had costed instead.
But still............- right on.

Shame on you R&D. Random dice roll for mana cost. Even for cmc 1 it wouldn't be broken. Compare with Cerulean Wisps. Transfer untap+blue into artifact+permanent.

*Cries at flavor text* I am consimplating weather or not I want to play magic anymore because of what they have done to Mirrodin TT-TT why did they have to do a stupid move like destroying one of the most popular Plane?!

Well now if this would cost only it would be interesting.
But like this it's a cantrip version of a 1CC spell that turns a permanent into an artifact ueot, and who would use this?

The flavor text is awesome. Karn is so cool.

They sure love Mirrodin in this block.

It's somewhat interesting, but just too expensive. And since when is Karn owning people?

Agree with everyone. Costs too much and is too much of a niche card. Pretty much useless unless you have a blue artifact hate deck. I've never really seen an artifact hate deck, much less a blue one.
@TrueBloodWolf: Phyrexia hasn't destroyed Mirrodin, it has merely reshaped it according to its viewpoint of a perfect world.

The squished-up art does not do justice to this card's flavour.
Karn is basically turning some random Phyrexian into a shiny statue, which works well with the flavour, since he realizes he can't heal his world, he can only hinder Phyrexia's progress.
The card itself could work well if it is combined with some artifact destruction, and even many cards in Standard which interact with artifacts, or to quickly get a particular Metalcraft engine going, while keeping card advantage.
Certainly not the best for any one of its abilities, but it gets the job done where it is needed.

In conjunction with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas's -1 ability you can turn any mundane permanent into a 5/5 threat.
Also, any time you have the "draw a card" function on a spell, even if it seems pointless, it is a huge advantage.

Normally there's some sort of correlation between a card's function and flavor text. At least a vague connection.
This has none. It does nothing but enable combos, really, and even then there are better options.
A rather pitiful card. No wonder the Mirrans lost.

@DoragonShinzui - The flavour text does tie into the card. Karn was travelling to help stop the spread of the Phyrexian taint (a poison/disease-like affliction); by transmuting something into an artifact, he hoped to hold the taint at bay...but it failed.

Effect not worth slot in deck. That is all.

Bro, this cuts down the activation cost of Memnarch's first ability from to ! This is especially useful when he's your EDH general and you're playing all those other colours other than blue.
Oh, and this replaces itself once you've played it! Memnarch, you must be proud of your Mirran brethren.

Can put you into temporary metalcraft range, giving you a knowledge advantage. They think you can't do something or are missing an ability, but you aren't.

Don't think it'll stick though!

Fun cards to use with this:
Master Thief
Metallic Mastery
Divine Offering
Revoke Existence
