Powerful effect, although getting him out might be difficult. I'd not be surprised if he's making a showing in Elder Dragon Highlander, though.

A perfect lockdown power in any black-red deck... getting him out might be tough but with a few mana boost and he can show up at least turn six or five...partner him with his girlfriend Lyzolda the Blood Witch with Goblin Assault and see ur opponents face burned or make ur opponents creatures back to ashes...

This guy made for a very unexpected loss in a game of chaos magic for me. Dropping Darksteel Collossus against this thing = instant kill on self :P

Nice card, don't forget dark ritual, seething song, and/or quicksilver amulet to get him out early.

Horrible, horrible card.....for your opponents, that is. Kaervek is a word no one in our group likes to hear after last weekend ;-)

Big free for all match. I was mono white and guy next to me played kaverick. I wasn't a threat but I had a lot of mana. Played a lot of big cost cards and the other guy used kaverick to kill every one else, then I crib swaped kaverick :) Next turn,
red Akroma killed me :(

Very under-estimated card....

Seems awesome in EDH! Haha omg, specially when they try to keep replaying their general after you kill it. Can kill many players just from that alone! Sucks you can't target the new creature though

Oh, Emrakul, The Aeons Torn, how I long to watch you glisten in the carnage that is 30 damage...

Wow, this guy pretty much makes your opponents afrid to do anything! If you think getting a 5BR out is difficult, you are not using eldrazi spawn, with those it is very easy.

I used to hate this card, but my anger towards the eldrazi makes me think that this card can help me achieve victory.

I used to hate this card as well. However, now i see its true power. very few creatures can survive being played, as most creatures have their toughness equal or lower than their mana cost. The only creatures can survive it are walls, creatures with protection, and creatures with shroud. However, you can just target the person who played the spell and burn them off quick, considering its black red.

When my friend plays his black/red deck, i save a kill spell for him, cause he needs to die right away or else its game over for me. And even if i save a kill spell for him i still take some damage for playing it.

PS, madformedusa, i agree in that i can see him in a grixis deck. That would actually work fairly well. Not mono blue though.

Richard Ferguson would have been a better artist for Kaervek, though RK Post is good, the flavor of Ferguson would have better, just as Sliver queen is to Ron Spencer.

Combine this with Delay and you can hurt your opponent twice :)

I call this guy Vegeta cause he beats the crap out of anyone who tries to mess with him.

The best thing about this card, is your opponents have to kill themselves to kill it!

Nearly every single card in Time Spiral was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.

This card represents the ruthless Jamuraan warlord who tricked Jolrael, Empress of Beasts into betraying her ally, Mangara of Corondor during the events of Mirage block.

Kaervek's Torch is probably one of the reference cards.
