AlphaNumerical, I'm pretty sure that's a flavor reason. His thrulls just completly outnumber him and he can't control them any longer so they turn on him.

Interesting card, but I've always wondered the reason (balance issues aside) why he is sacrificed when you hit 7..

@ JWolps: Heh, and we thought he was a "master" breeder.

Even the master breeder couldn't overcome the sheer might of his horrid breedings. All Hail the Mighty Thrulls! Okay, I give up. Thrulls will never be cool.

Find a way to keep the tokens from being the thrull creature type and you will end up having a crazy token generator.

Needs some of MTG flavor text this card could easily become one of my favorites. Without great flavor text this card is just another funky Johnny card I've bookmarked

If you can keep his crowd of Thrulls under control, it seems like this guy would work well with creatures with Devour. You plop any creature with CMC 6 or less down, Endrek does his thing, and suddenly you have a whole bunch of munchies for your Predator Dragon/Thunder-Thrash Elder/whatever other Devour creature you use.

was looking through my cards for something to help out a devour deck and found this guy. He is now the star player. gives me a ton devour ammo for nothing and keeps my kitchen stocked.

another card that goes great with him is Attrition keeps your thralls under control while killing your opponent's guys. it's beautiful.

and Ruztyz's conspiracy idea is excellent that would break my deck open

and I'm not even a johnny. I charge all Johnny out there to find some awesome combo's for him

Conspiracy doesn't work with this because it doesn't override the creature types of the token it just gives them an addition one.

Try Artificial Evolution to change to something not being played.

I love having him in my Kresh EDH deck. We play that the evoke creatures generate tokens equal to their Converted Casting Cost. Does this seem right?

@JL_Weber. Haha this card is meant for those of us who've played Fallen Empires, we don't need no flavor text, the flavor is already there. We know who he is.

Conspiracy doesn't work on this guy. It doesn't overwrite the creature types, it just adds one.
So if you choose, say, Zombies. When you have 7 Zombie Thrulls, he'll still die.

Conspiracy does work. If it added types, it would say so. Just like how Spreading Seas shuts down nonbasic lands. On a lot of type-changing spells, you'll find "in addition to its other types." This line does not appear on Conspiracy, so Conspiracy makes Mr. Sahr playable.

Guy is amazing with any kind of creature who Noms on tokens. Bloodthrone Vampire would be great here.

4/5, at least.

First cast Wrexial, the Risen Deep and then Emrakul, the Aeons Torn on your next turn. Way to maximize the amount of thrulls!

I started playing magic back in fallen empires, and picked up a lot of thrulls with this guy writing the flavor text. I never would have dreamed that we would actually see him in print. This is the card that told me "Time Spiral is going to be a huge pay off for all us Old Fogeys."

yeah, I don't think conbspiracy works, sry guys. And neither does artificial evolution, really....I think. Replace thrull with (something), then he'll be sacced when you hit 7 (somethings). Because it replaces all instances.

On a different note, mycoloth+this is a good casual combo. Mycoloth, making dudes, eating the dudes =P

The fact that the thrulls are black seems perfect for Demon of Death's Gate

I like how they're going back to the storyline flavour with this card. Look at the flavour texts of Thrull Wizard and Breeding Pit if you don't understand.

Funnily enough, through, the flavour text of Derelor implies he died for entirely different reasons. TIME STREAMS, SON.

@kirbster actually I think he is the one ordering the thrull to be executed.

@kirbster

This guy created the Derelor, so the Ebon Hand got annoyed at him (Derelor requires a constant stream of black mana), so they had him assassinated (funnily enough, by a Necrite). The Thrull's rebelled after his death for a number of reasons :)

In timespiral, Endrek, just like Mishra and other dead ppl, got a second chance in life through the time rifts. Endrek got executed for making too many thrulls and making them too smart or parasitic to the Ebon Hand. Now, with a second chance, he has to manage his thrulls to keep em secret, or he'll be executed again for breeding. You can also just let him go crazy with his passion, whatever the consequences.
He's my general and I keep him on his meds, with a lot of sacrifice outlets and only one 7cmc creature (butcher of malakir, but thats totally worth it).
read the full article on him here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/372

You could use Conspiracy, name slivers, then play Door of Destinies naming slivers again, and they should concede pretty quickly

Fallen Empires was the first set released after I first got into the game, and I remember trying to piece together the story of the block through the flavor text on all of the cards. Actually seeing Sahr make it into print was an awesomely nerdy throwback moment for me. Well done, Wizards.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card. The legendary creatures in these sets were also all characters from previous sets who had yet to see print.

This card depicts the biomancer of the Order of the Ebon Hand who created the thrulls for use in the Order's sacrificial rites. All was well and good until he bred some with intelligence and ability to use magic, a la Thrull Wizard. He was supposedly executed by the Order for this crime, and the Order was subsequently overrun and destroyed by the rampaging monsters (as represented in his second ability.) See http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&flavor=+ for a list of cards referencing the man.

AlphaNumerical, he is a master breeder, he just isn't very good at controlling his minions, those are two different things.

If you've got a deck that runs on creatures going to your graveyard, Heartless Summoning puts all of your thrulls right into your graveyard, triggering Blood Artist and whatnot a million times.
Also works like a charm with Attrition

Conspiracy may not explicitly state that the type is in addition to its current type(s), but the first ruling on the card states:

"It does not replace any use of creature types in card text."

Thank you Alsebra. I was just about to Copy and paste the rule before I read your post but lets take it a step farther. Some cards have additional rules to explain stuff when wotc fails to make things clear or when they make changes to the game rules that would effect how a card would be played. You can find them at the bottum of the page under the details tab.

Dross Golem with 3 swamps he cost 2 but his CMC is still 5 so you get 5 thrulls.

You have little guys to pay for the sacrifice. You gain 9 for doing it. Not the worst way to use him i imagine.

@Alsebra: I can understand the confusion about this ruling, but it isn't saying what you seem to think it says. Conspiracy replaces a card's printed subtypes, causing Mr. Sahr here to live well beyond the seven Thrull limit. The ruling you quoted says:
"It does not replace any use of creature types in card text."
This ruling is in reference to the use of creature types in the text box of the card, such as "All Sliver creatures get +1/+1." on Muscle Sliver or "Goblin creatures you control have haste." on Goblin Warchief.
The confusion over that ruling is understandable as it can be interpreted incorrectly. In fact, only a month before posting this comment, the following ruling was added to Conspiracy:
"Affected spells, cards, and creatures lose all of their other creature types."
And that clears it up pretty well. Endrek Sahr is a big-time Conspiracy buff.
