Good discard spell, almost as good as Hymn to Tourach.

When i look at the card, the word that comes in my mind is "dependeble".

Fall - if cast on turn 3, i guess there's like 75% chance to discard 2 cards. Even on turn 2, if you didn't begin and opponent has 2 lands in play, theres high likelihood of 1-for-2 trade.

Later, when opponent is topdecking, you can Rasie dead some of your dead buddies and bounce one of theirs.
For example, you could return Ravenous Rats and discard their creature...which is kind of complicated way of destroying a creature, but it's a way (plus its something Mind Rot or Blightning cant do).

In either case, it's quite color heavy. Thats why i rate just 4.

@BlackLotusIsTerrible It is a split card. It is supposed to be like that because you can play it as either card.

Both parts of this split card are pretty playable.

Fall is alright, but it's that it won't have much impact while your opponent still has any land cards in hand, but it can still manage to become a Hymn to Tourach if you're lucky.

Rise is really decent. This combines Unsummon and Disentomb in one card, which means card advantage. Both cards are playable by themselves, and this will most often find its targets to resolve. The obvious disadvatage is that you can't use it as an Unsummon as response to removal, as a combat trick or similar.

Yet if you have this split card twice in your hand, both parts synergize with each other - bounce your opponent's creature with Rise. then make him discard it with Fall. Effectively makes a Terminate (albeit with card disadvantage) that can also get rid of indestructible creature and creatures with persist. Rise and Fall, my dear :D
It gets even better if your opponent kept a single card in hand that will also get discarded in the process. Especially if you have something like Liliana's Caress out. In which case you might even want to return a creature from your opponent's graveyard to his hand in case he doesn't have any cards in hand at that time.

@desolation_masticore: Something tells me that combining pump effects like Reckless Charge and Giant Growth in one card would be severely overpowered - even without flashback. I haven't seen a burn spell for RedRed that combines two Lightning Bolts for 6 damage yet ;)

Random discard is still random discard. Fall is basically Hymn.

One slot in my deck can be either a Raise Dead/Unsummon combo OR a quasi-Hymn to Tourach? Too bad split cards aren't EDH legal...

Easy to run in (mostly) mono-black with some mana fixing artifacts. Prophetic Prism or Sphere of the Suns will do if you don't have something sexier to produce any color mana like the various neo-Moxen.

One of the best split card in Dissension... In a UBR deck this is an early and balanced Hymn to Tourach or and middle-game tempo+recursion gainer!

Fall is like a Hymn, but much more fun and without the brokeness, due to the "nonland" clause!

So much versability!

@MisterAction - You can try to bait your blue opponent into wasting a counter on a non-essential card, but many blue mages know which spells to counter...or they're packing a few more.

Yeah... I appreciate them trying to fix a classic spell, but they should just leave Hymn to Tourach alone. It's still effortless card advantage for two mana, and random discard is an incredibly frustrating mechanic that should be abandoned. At least Counterspell can be defeated by waiting until your opponent is tapped out or playing less-essential spells as decoys to trick them into wasting their counters. That feels more like strategy to me and less like luck.

Rise is great, though! I've played this card in decks that don't even have red, and it does fine.

@Alsebra: That's what I'm saying, countermagic is an acceptable mechanic in my eyes because it requires proper timing and planning to use correctly. Countermagic can be beaten by outthinking your opponent; random discard can only be defeated by luck. Or... countermagic.

I'm making a modern B/R discard deck, and since hymn to tourach is not modern legal, this is just what I've been looking for. Few split cards are this good.

Thumbs up if you turned your head sideways to read.
