A classic. It really wants Voltaic Key, but is just fine without. As a baseline, think of it as "7: 8 damage to target opponent." Usually it's "7, pay 8 life: 16 damage to target opponent."

I remember facing decks with this and Voltaic Key and Tinker. Agh, I hated it so much.

This guy was like the Darksteel Collosus of the late 90's haha. Ah how times have changed.
I love the art. A pity he sucks. There are still ways though to make him somewhat playable. You could for example use him as a finisher in a lockdown deck, that keeps everything tapped. He can still untap and beat your opponent. Would be best of course if you'd put a loxodon warhammer on him, or something else that gives lifelink, so you can keep untapping him.

Throw on any form of lifelink. Loxodon war hammer, spirit loop etc.
One thing to consider is that it is 4-5 mana less than darksteel or blightsteel colossus. That makes it actually castable in casual games. Of course, it is more vulnerable to remove.
4/5 for casual only

I believe that would be one of the spheres of Phyrexia above him.

Ah, the days when 8/8 for less than 8 WASN'T standard practice. Even with the massive downside, it was still special.
@joshguessed Looks kind of like Maze of Ith to me.

It's easy to forget that this was once a really powerful rare. It punished chump blocking and often forced unfavorable blocks if the opponent didn't have the life to take a hit, and just some utility creatures hanging out. It also potentially 3-for-1-ed opponents if they didn't have removal, and if you slapped on a Rancor from the same block, you were in for some real carnage. The drawback was easily worked around with things like Voltaic Key and Seeker of Skybreak. With all the cheap mana available (Tolarian Academy? Gaea's Cradle?) this could potentially be barreling in for 8 damage very, very early.
Decent if you're not cheating him into play. If you are, there are much better options. If you're not... well there are probably better options (depending on deck, color(s) etc..) but he has crazy style points :D

@JoshGuessed and BegleOne: That is indeed one of the layers of phyrexia. Phyrexia is a plane of spheres within spheres (I believe 9 in all), at the center of which is Yawgmoth.

Another card with style and amazing art. Make your opponents fear it. Maybe it will get shattered, disenchanted or naturalized, but maybe it will come slugging in for tons of damage. If you have it in a green deck for some reason, you could use Familiar Ground to make unblockable, but that's boring. 5/5

Vigilance,
Asha's Favor,
Serra's Embrace,
Shield of the Righteous,
Sword of Vengeance,
and Stamina each give it vigilance.
Stamina can regen it too if needed. Triclopean Sightcan also untap it.Dragon Scalescan also return from the graveyard attached to it. Akroma's Memorial, Angelic Skirmisher, and Serra's Blessing also give everything else vigilance and other fun things.
Batterskull if you just want to be mean.
