Like mrredhatter so perfectly said, with Daru Spiritualist, you have all clerics at a perma X/INFINITE

Part of an infinite life combo. Actualy not that bad even on its own without the combo.

Used to be Mogg Maniac's best buddy back in the day. Also, try him with an Invasion Plans out.

If Someone attacks me with a 50/50 can I pay the 0 mana 50 times to redirect all 50 damage to other clerics that can prevent one/two damage at a time so I take no damage.

@Infylol: Livewire lash specifies it being a spell. not a spell or ability, just a spell.

Good evening everyone. All expert comments are welcomed if there are any errors made during this turn phase exchange.

A game of MTG, green deck against white deck.
The issue is redirecting a substantial amount of damage in such a way as to eventually have all damage pilled-up on a single creature from a single source that is not in the combat, and then prevent the damage in mass.

The green attack is a line of larger creatures; Gorilla Berserkers (grn) 2/3 trample, rampage 2, Enormous Baloth (grn) 7/7, Vastwood Gorger (grn) 5/6, and a One Dozen Eyes (grn) 5/5 Beast token. *** In support is instant Emerald Charm (grn) Wall of Resistance (wht): - … loses flying until the end of turn and Venomspout Brackus (grn) 5/5: - … deals 5 damage to Spirit en-Kor (wht)… blocking creature with flying.

The white’s last stand is: Wall of Resistance (wht) 0/3 flying Mobilization Enchantment (wht) 1/1 Soldier token, Shaman en-Kor (wht) 1/2 - 0: Redirect 1 damage from… and 2: Redirect to…, Spirit en-Kor (wht) 2/2 flying – 0: Redirect 1 damage from… *** In support is Fortified Area (wht) All walls… gain banding and +1/+0, Mobilization Enchantment (wht) 1/1 Soldier token Samite Blessing - T: Prevent all damage to any creature from any one source and another ME Soldier that happened to be standing by.

The clash “pitted” Wall of Resistance Mobilization Enchantment Soldier token (7dmg) blocking the Enormous Baloth (2dmg), Shaman en-Kor (5dmg) blocking Vastwood Gorger (1dmg), and Spirit en-Kor (5+5dmg) blocking One Dozen Eyes (grn) 5/5 Beast token (2dmg).

Spirit en-Kor redirects 10dmg to Shaman en-Kor, Shaman en-Kor redirects 7dmg from Mobilization Enchantment Soldier (banded with WR), and Shaman en-Kor adds 5dmg more for a total of 22dmg. Shaman en-Kor then redirects to the other non-combat ME Soldier, the whole 22dmg accumulated from the white side of the battle field. ME Soldier Samite Blessing prevents all damage to any creature from any one source.

The tactical result was 2dmg from Gorilla Berserkers to white opponent life and no damage to white creatures, however green suffered 4dmg among its attacking creatures. Neither side lost any creatures to the grave. The strategic result was green was completely tapped. I’ll send 3 Soldiers in to do 3dmg  , maintain my defense and call it even for the turn.

My friend made a pretty sweet cleric deck that uses the infinite life combo and I am trying to understand it completely, so a few questions if you all don't mind. I understand that one could play the ability and give his/her cleric +0/+2, let it resolve then do it again and again, then play the starlit sanctum for life. Now, if someone decided to use one stack and do the ability over and over then use the starlit sanctum in the same stack, would the +0/+2 abilities resolve or would they only get life based on the original toughness do to the other abilities not resolving?

Another question I have, my friend mentioned that "the game action of the sacrificing the creature starts a new stack and the life gaining ability is on that stack", is this true or would it just fall into the current stack that is taking place?

Thank you all in advance for any information you can provide.

This card has potential in multiplayer:

Have it out with Mirrorwood Treefolk, an indestructible Boros Reckoner or Stuffy Doll. Then use its ability to nab somebody else's combat damage and redirect it somewhere completely different. xD

Also, having it and Darksteel Myr out makes for a great defence as you'll be able to easily prevent a lot of combat damage coming your way.

I use this one with Daru Spiritualist, Disciple of griselbrand, buried alive and immortal servitude along with a bunch of other 2cmc clerics for fun.

@G-of-G: Redirection of damage does not change its source, so all the redirected damage on the soldier is still dealt by the multiple green creatures. You would need as many Samite Blessing to prevent it all. Its still good to lose only one 1/1 creature tho.

@crashnburn99: There is only one stack. Someone can try to remove the cleric with a spell, but you can continue triggering Daru spiritualist 's ability on top of it on the same stack.

You still need to let the toughness boosting abilities resolve before using Starlit Sanctum 's ability to gain life if you want to gain lots of life.

When you activate Starlit Sanctum 's ability to gain life you must pay for it and sacrificing a cleric is part of that cost.

A payment does not use the stack so the cleric goes to the graveyard right away and its last known infos will be used to determine its toughness when the ability resolves.

You can't respond to a payment, but you can respond to the ability by casting or using an ability to kill the player, or prevent gain of life like skullcrack, or better yet false cure before the ability to gain life resolves.

On the other hand there are spells like devour flesh and condemn that can be used instead of Starlit Sanctum, but the sacrifice or removal effect is not part of the cost, but part of the effect, so you can respond to it by using something to remove the infinitely tough creature before the spell resolves.
