I wonder if this will have a new friend in Vampire Hexmage.

It also has a friend in Clockspinning.

Anything that can counter a Split Second spell is fine by me!! Krosan Grip?? I don't think so!

I'm not sure this can counter split second. Doesn't Cycling count as an activated ability or something like that? I was under the impression that only Voidmage Apprentice and Willbender could handle split second.

@ ScissorsLizard: you can't cycle this in response to a split second spell. However, once the decree is in play as an enchantment, it's triggered ability will counter split second spells just fine (since split second doesn't stop abilities from triggering).

It also goes very well with Chisei, Heart of Oceans which is normally a card that's mediocre at best, besides it's synergy against wither and Dark Depths

This and Rule of Law along with Ferropede = pure win though, cast it right after a Wrath of God, sit back and watch your opponent weep.

A much easier way to perpetuate its effect than counter-removing shenanigans is simply bounce it to your hand with something like Vedalken Mastermind. When your opponent casts his third spell, bounce Decree in response; his spell still gets countered, but the third counter never gets put on Decree, it's never sacrificed, and you can play it again on your turn.

I used this trick to win a FNM with a janky Reality Acid MUC deck.

From the reminder text on Krosan Grip: As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.

Cycling is an ability, and as one, it uses the stack.

for quite an expensive combo of 6 cards could you have decree of silence, power conduit, march of the machines, an artifact land, salvaging station and dross scorpion to stop ure oponant casting spells? whenever a depletion counter is put on decree of silence take it off with power conduit, return the artifact land to play with salvaging station wich will turn into a creature and die, untapping salvaging sation and triggering dross scorpions effect allowing you to untap power conduit. would this actually work or am i a completely wrong and i wud just look silly?

Use with Venser, The Sojourner and you'll have some pretty good control going, unless your opponent manages to cast three or more spells between your end step and their turn...

it's a little expensive. should be 4 counters.

@RDorothy

Would make the infanite-lock too easy.

An uncounterable counterspell with a cantrip for 6 mana, or a 3-turn Time Walk for 8. It's not amazing, but I wouldn't count it out either. Combos exceptionally well with Power Conduit to create a virtually unbreakable lock.

EDH viable perhaps?

This card + Leech Bonder + Paradise Mantle = shutdown all opponents spells. Play that combo right after a Wrath of God and you'll have the win.

The only problem with this is that it costs 8, so by the time it hits play your opponent probably has their big stuff already. Although accelerating into it could be fun

Decree of Silence+Guile=auto win 90% of the time. mostly because u still technically counter a spell but Decree of Silence wont get a counter as the spell wasnt countered by decree of silence instead it was exiled by Guile :P

Yo dawg, I heard you like counters.

So we put some counters when you counter, so you can count the counters every time you counter a counter.

Oh and did I mention you can cycle to counter without getting any counters?

Is it me, or is the artwork fairly lazy? I mean, when you compare it to Karona, False God?

The cycling ability allow Decree of Silence to counter a spell without fearing itself being countered in most cases, because it's an activated ability.

Once DoS is in play, it can stop even split second spells. Split second only prevents people from responding with casting and ACTIVATING, DoS is a trigger effect, which bypasses split second.
