White Weenie powerhouse. Should see Standard play.

Wait.

Hold on a second.

This guy + Path of Bravery = stupid white weenie decks in standard.

So is it a policy with Wizards to create a card that hoses the main theme of the previous block? This would be the RtR hoser, Rest in Peace or Dryad Militant would be the Innastrad hosers, and I remembers similar things in older blocks (Imi Statue and Kataki, War's Wage for Mirrodin).

Walks through Ravnica and Alara like a boss.

Talk about totally pushed!

Even without the goofy charm ability I would use this dude. Not bad at all.

Flavor text significantly less creepy in fictional world than in real life.

Soldier of the Pantheon: Voice of Resurgence, come out and play-i-ay!
Voice of Resurgence: ;____;

Very relevant protection, very aggressively costed, and has an ability that helps in the race against aggro. There is little more you'd want in a weenie one-drop.

Yeah, but, isn't this a mono-colored block?

Y'know, this guy's a badass and all...

...but I still love Elite Vanguard more.

Holy powercreep, Batman! Imagine that, only a few years ago, Savannah Lion was a rare.

So this is what happened to the Gateless after the events of Dragon's Maze - they went to Theros.

Theros is obviating the need for these old undercosted vanilla creatures.

In other planes, the flavor text may suggest him being a schizophrenic serial killer.

To me, the cyclops in the art is saying: Wait, did I read that right? For 1?

@Master - And the first set of Innistrad had lots Artifact had, like Stony Silence. Also in rare, in order to lower the chances of drawing a useless-inside-the-block cards at a booster draft.

I never thought they'd print a strictly better Savannah Lions, a strictly better Jackal Pup, and a strictly better Watchwolf.

I DEFINITELY never thought they'd print them all in the same set.

I think this card is just insane. It blocks most relevant aggro creatures and can honestly just attack past them if need be. Also it dodges a fair bit of Esper/UWR control's removal. The lifegain is not the worst either, because you're likely trying to race with this dude anyway. I think one of his best abilities is to attack planeswalkers past all kinds of multicoloured blockers, making it not the most dreadful topdeck ever, even on turn 37. Definitely a very versatile little dude and there's a finally a new target for Orzhov Charm to reanimate (RIP in peace, Doomed Traveler)...

You know how Ash Zealot was designed to combat the popularity of graveyard decks owing to Innistrad? Yeah, this guy is Theros' Ash Zealot to RTR.

So I guess pushed 2/1's and 1/2's for 1 are a thing now?

I have learned I can only really judge a card after playing it, or facing it from across the table. I have this in my Boros Weenie deck and I tell ya, I never wish I was not holding it, or not playing it. 2/1 for 1 cmc ? It's even nastier when I hit it with a Madcap Skills on turn two. Swinging for 5 on turn two is nothing to sneeze at.

I guess a 2/1 with additional abilities for 1 cmc nowadays just doesn't deserve a good rating. 5/5 for weenie decks, and the fact that this guy has protection from all the guild charms and most guild spells is crazy.

Because Elite Vanguard was in need of a revamp, apparently?
eh
The first of each block is usually all wonky like this anyway. Hopefully the next two sets round out the wonky card base.

Strictly better than some top-tier 1-drops from other blocks, if you're playing mono-white.
Unfortunately can't be targeted by some really cool multi-colored buffs though.

Yeah. Favored Hoplite wasn't good enough of a one drop by itself for white so let's add another one 'cause that makes sense.

Savannah Lion was enough for white weeny to be competitive back when white had Armageddon . White weeny took a HUGE hit when wizards decided that white couldn't kill all lands for 4.
This isn't power creep.
This is a solid card, but don't compare it to unplayable cards and shout "power creep!"

I love how this is rated lower (3.5 at time of writing) than Elite Vanguard.

The protection from multicolored will be helping you far more than hurting you, and the life gain is amazing. Why is this lower?

So... he's a soldier of the pantheon, AND an enemy of the guildpact?

There really oughta be a drawback for wielding this kind of power. Like FireDrinker Satyr, it requires thought and deck alteration to allow this card to work to harmonize with the rest. This is a stupid card in sense it just wants to be bought simply to make life easy.

i'm scratching my head as to why this man is rated lower than Elite Vanguard ?

somehow protection from multicolored feels like a curse? think about the efficiency of multicolored cards like Electrolyze . he's immune to the ping damage and likely requires a natural bolt to be taken care of. that's solid threat from a one drop.

white lifegain, to boot.

If it had been "when a player casts a multicolored spell", he'd be amazing.

Trades with mutavault and most things into the 3 converted mana cost range at its worst. Ignores most interaction from the game at its best.
