This was hyped as the solution against affinity at time of release. Seems like it didn't work out.

Regarding the affinity deck, there was really only two choices: Ban the deck or create some even more overpowered artifact hosing. I'm glad they went with the first option, as the latter would've probably destroyed any chance of artifacts ever being played again.
Imi Statue may have failed its original purpose, but it still does a pretty decent job at hosing non-affinity artifact decks such as Modular, Esper and other creature based strategies. It also has some pretty sweet art and a very intriguing flavor text.

Another Kamigawa rare with fantastic art and flavor brought low by the retarded cost you need to pay :'(
See, what I find funny is around when Kamigawa was first released, their top 50 artifacts of all time list had this listed higher than Sensei's Divining Top in the "best artifacts by set" portion of the list.

If they wanted to hose affinity they should've made a more specific hoser.
instant or sorcery - "All +1/+1 counters become -1/-1 counters until end of turn" or "0/0 counters" or some such artifact -"Whenever an artifact is sacrificed, its controller loses 2 life" enchantment - "All artifacts become non artifacts"
All of these would work, have strange implications, and generally would've nerfed the deck. This one misses the issue entirely because affinity didn't need to untap much..
