more flavourful and balanced than lightning bolt. Preventing regeneration is a plus too.

The new flavour text is fun at least.

I think Cudgel Troll is the only creature that regenerates in M12? Well, at least it has 3 toughness.

Not that I don't like this card, but couldn't they have printed something with a bonus that's more relevant for the set's limited format, or at least Standard?

@Gelzo, Trollhide gives regen, but nothing else in M12. In current standard, there's not much else. Skithiryx needs one more damage to die, as does Molten Tail Masticore. Thrun is protected. The most important function is against elf decks featuring Ezuri.

Broadly though, I agree, either print more creatures with regen or don't use cards with non-regen clauses. I'd have thought it'd be part of simplifying the core sets which Wizards talks about so much.

I like to think of this as the new lightning bolt

Hmm. Somehow I have fifty of these lying around, and I didn't even play red when this was in standard.

Hey, be glad they didn't give us Ember Shot instead.

Just remember, there's always something worse...

Red can't have everything, guys. After rotation, there will still be Chandra's Phoenix, Red Shrine, Lavamancer, Furnace Scamp, Shock, Galvanic Blast, Burn the Impure, this, Bloodstorm Berserker, Koth, Chandra and whatever Red we get in Innistrad.

Too bad they didn't keep up the tradition of new artwork for incinerate in each printing. It's definitely not my favorite art either (That would be the Mirage art). Let's hope to see new and better things being incinerated in the future.

Not a bad try, Chandra, but Jaya's still got you beat on the flavor text for this card.

This completely makes up for Lightning Bolt rotating out. I mean, Shock isn't bad, per se, but I'd rather have this. 4 stars for flexibility and coolness.

I've always liked this card, even though lightning bolt is better sometimes

Haha, yeah, that's right, Cudgel Troll!

I actually have a monogreen deck that has a couple Cudgel Trolls. Friend of mine always uses this on him. It's so weird to see the no-regenerate clause actually, y'know ... matter.

Flavor text confirms that Jaya is officially cast down the memory hole.

I think that this definitely has a place in red decks in the post-M11/Zen Standard arena, especially with Mental Misstep running rampant.

Notice how much lower this version is rated than the 10th Edition version, just because everyone's mad about losing Bolt. That's not right, man. Bolt was way above the curve, but Incinerate is balanced and still an amazing card.

Would be even better if it kept the Jaya flavor text, though.

Remember, they don't have to die from this card to have the "cannot be regenerated" part trigger. You can use this then do the rest as combat damage, or with followup spell/ability. With the deck's removals almost entirely be done via damage, Regenerators like Mortivore and Cudgel Troll, are not as much of a game ending threat for mono-decks. Situational but still 3 damage for 1Red at instant speed isn't that bad.

I like everything about this card better in older sets. I LOVE the people being burned alive, AND the lack of regen, it destroys against an old green deck.

Dear Chandra Nalaar,

We would like to thank you for your efforts as Chief of Red Flavor Text since hiring you in 2009. We understand that it is a difficult project to toss out pithy one-liners whenever you ignite, burn, or otherwise send a person, object or location up in smoke. It is therefore with regret that we must inform you that our reviews of your performance have not been favorable, compared to the industry standards set by your predecessor, Jaya Ballard, Task Mage. As such, it is with heavy hearts that we must ask for your resignation.

Sincerely,
The MTG Flavor QC Team

@wstonefi,

I'm pretty sure the reason that Incinerate is rated higher is in fact the flavor text.

So in M13, we get Searing Spear, which is incinerate without the "no regeneration" thing.

Seriously? Seriously?! Why not reprint this? This is far, far, far from broken.

There's going to be a non-can't regenerate version of this upcoming in M13. Looks like you goons got your wish. I for one, as an RDW and Sligh enthusiast, will miss very much incinerate in standard. Severely outclassed by lightning bolt, but it's still a hell of a card. I just hope they keep shock!

this printing gets 1 star for changing the flavor text from Jaya to Chandra.

and remember, at least this card isn't Searing Spear. Not all burn can be Lightning Bolt guys, and Incinerate is stil one of the best burn spells ever printed

The reason they turned this into searing spear is because they are trying to move away from regeneration hate. That's why they printed day of judgement and doom blade and why you don't see 'can't be regenerated' on any cards anymore.
DarthParallax
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.5/5.0) (1 vote)
I think we need to ask for this card to be reprinted, but for better reasons than just "We hate Searing Spear".

We should submit to Wizards that either Red or White really needs Anti-Regeneration, because WHILE Regeneration itself is pretty fair and underpowered, they've put it on a Mythic Rare creature, Thrun, the Last Troll, and will probably continue to put in other Legendary Creatures like him, and while that's not OVERPOWERED or anything, 'things need answers' is a fair argument.

Before, when TWO whole colors that were both very good at destroying things tended to hate on Regeneration, it made it not worth the time it took to learn how to use the mechanic. Regeneration is a lot stronger now than it was in Xth edition, and it's worth it to have a weak hate card available because it's worth it to use Regeneration again. We should ask for either Wrath of God or Incinerate back, and we should then bid a Truly Final farewell to the other. Thrun should either be Wrathable or Incineratable, and then just retire the other card. ('Weak hate' in the sense that 'hating Regeneration is not really a good enough reason on its own to play the card. It's more like a cantrip 'feature' that pushes a card to playability. Other 'Strong hate' cards have the hate be the main focus of the card and they're strictly sideboard material because you wouldn't play them against the decks you didn't hate.)
