Defender mill? Why not, I frequently run a few walls in my mill decks anyway. I would mix in some green to take advantage of Overgrown Battlement and the new Axebane Guardian if I were seriously considering it.

0/4 Defender for 2 with an effect seems OK.
Firesplitter.

We have some good defenders in standard. So why not?

Yet another weapon for most mill decks. Pros like me like the art, also.

*** awesome art.

Cool card at that.

This could be a win condition in a new Defender Mill deck. I'm not saying it's likely--but it, paired with Vent Sentinel might make for an interesting deck waging war on two fronts.

Unfortunately, this has trouble finding a home in Homunculus tribal since it interacts off defender, and the only other one that gets that is Bonded Fetch.

Seems like very good friends with Fog Bank

As much as I like seeing more Homunculi as well as more useful defenders, the problem is that he's just a much, much worse Halimar Excavator.

The excavator can mill multiple opponents by turn 5. Doorkeeper can't, not with any of the cards in the multiverse. The infinite combos you need to power his untapping and mana activations are just too much.

Does it use this weapon exclusively for mind-stabbing when you activate its ability,
or why does this homunculus have 0 power despite wielding a spear?

Most cards will do better at milling than him. A 0/4 defender isn't bad but the mill cost is pretty high, especially when you realize there are only 4 blue defenders in standard, you almost have to build a deck around him to make the cost worth it. Maybe something more along the lines of \untap/ target player mills a card, 3 cmc \untap/ (current effect). Maby I am just poking a common too hard to be better...

There's 4 blue defenders in standard right now, which is sure to go up when gatecrash hits. Fog bank and hover barrier help you soak the damage while this guy hits their deck. Combine with green for access to mana fixers like gatecreeper vine and axebane guardian. Tree of redemption also ups the number of defenders. Throw in increasing confusion, that one hourglass that mills x when you pay x and more mana ramp leads to quick milling and lots of other fun things...

I like the card enough to attempt make a deck. But other things may be included as alternate win conditions. More on this soon...

I really think this is probably one of the cuter creatures in Magic.

Anyone else hoping simic in gate crash throw us some good defenders? Green and blue both have good walls already, so a mix would make a wall deck even more viable.

planning to try this in a draft on saturday with lobber crew and hover barrier. i hope to sit there and lob balls at people and ruin their decks, all while i have a strong defense. those izzet charms look real nice for untapping, not to mention counterflux.

Never thought I'd say "mill 15" in RtR Limited, but it's happened. Doorkeeper isn't all too special in Constructed, but in drafts he can be a win condition when paired with some Axebane Guardians.

My only problem with this card is a small detail in the art. Why does it have 0 power but is clearly holding a spear in its hand?

Would be better for our cause if it didn't apply to JUST defender.
...and if it weren't from Monster's Inc.

2.5/5. Decent limited blocker, but without a dedicated deck with defenders it won't see much use of its activated abiilty.

I like cards like this and vent sentinel. Basically it's like halfcourt basketball. The game's all on your opponent's turn.

The fact that you have to tap him means nothing because you can d it after your opponent's combat step.

I've got a for fun deck of defenders in which I run Axebane Guardians, Doorkeepers and Wall of Fires among other defenders.

I've won countless times by just having a ton o defenders on the field and casting Coalition Victory or Door to Nothingness or milling over 60 cards in a single turn.

The look on me friends faces are just priceless when they face the defender deck and lose!

@Lonelyshadow - Doorkeeper appears to be the same species as Fblthp but is actually a different guy

Don't forget Primal Clay 1/6 Defender if needed. (4) colourless though. Haunted Guardian for (2) colourless. Axebane is good, Demented Assistant whilst flickering a Village-Bell Ringer. But what other win cons?

The most difficult thing about using Wall of Kelp with defender decks was the unwieldy mana costs. Well, with Axebane Guardian as a mana fixer, it's not as much of a problem, but Doorkeeper has a special job as a decent way to use some sort of wacky mono-blue defender mill. Fog Bank and Guard Gomazoa help too.
