Awesome flavor text.

Compared to Tidings:

Pros:
-Instant.

Cons:
-Tidings doesn't require you to discard.
-Multicolored.

This is fairly-costed and super sick. Could be main-decked in the right deck.

Good in a deck with a heavy graveyard theme. Crappy everywhere else.

Gets cheaper with goblin electromancer. Obviously you wont play this in a deck where you don't want to discard cards. That doesn't make it less playable or worse than tidings or careful consideration. Being multicolored is not a con, thats just how this set works. Wants you do think outside the mono box. This card is also standard so it will see plenty of play in those Izzet and U/W/R control decks.

Just wait, non-believers. 4/5 For being useful for plenty of things and for being a good uncommon. Unlike 50% of RtR uncommon.

@Axelle: When it comes to card draw, "Instant" is a pretty hefty advantage. The natural comparison is to Jace's Ingenuity: You get one less card advantage, but some bonus sifting and two cards to the graveyard (which may be useful depending on what you're doing)

Pros like me agree with some of you non-pros. Card draw is significantly better as an instant.

I like this much better than Jace's Ingenuity. Your most likely 4-card draw has 2 lands in it, which may be totally discardable depending on when you play this. It's functionally an instant Foresee. I'd rather have 2 cards that meet the needs of the situation I'm in than an extra random card. That's why it's harder to cast than Jace's Ingenuity.

Izzet wierd Draw Spells and Counterspells:

Compared to Brainstorm and Counterspell--

Spike, in response to the rules text: Meh. I got better.

Vorthos, in response to the flavor text: Hey, this is funnier :)

Johnny, in response to the art: Magic? MAGIC? FFFF-U! AH'M DOEEENG SCIENCE TU EEET!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Careful Consideration and Tidings.

Yeah. Doesn't seem so good now, does it?

EDIT: My point isn't that the card is useless. My point is that for a multicolored card especially, this is too much. Adding colors should lower the cost, not raise it. Had the cost been 2BlueRed, I'dve been all over it, great sifting tool, but as is if you're leaving 5 mana open you probably have better things to be doing and don't need to be sifting.

In terms of standard, this is good. There are very few good card drawing spells available, and this is good.

There are better cards, obviously. Instant speed is nice. Could see some play in Commander when paired with black to make use of the discarded cards.

This card is greatly underrated right now. Wouldn't be surprised if this started popping up in UR decks.

Agree with WINGSPAN here. 3UR is not a debilitating multicolored cost compared to others in RtR (Trostani, etc). Of course, this isn't an autoinclude in every deck that runs blue/red. But it is really strong in UR instant-based decks, specifically as an end-of-opponent's-turn drop. Use discard on extra lands and flashback (Think Twice), and then gloat over your card advantage.

Could be better, but 2-of for me nonetheless. 3.5-4 out of 5

Running this as a 2-of in my Izzet guild deck. This does so much work just plain out digging and is bonkers when I have a guttersnipe out. Opponent on 10 life: "at the end of your turn I draw four cards and discard two cards, you take 2 damage. On my turn I cast 2 izzet charms (which I just drew off my thoughtflare) and a cyclonic rift, you take 6 damage and lose all your creatures. Then I swing for 2 damage. gg?"

This would be crazy effective if it just followed a set with graveyard mechanics or something....

This card's flavour oozes like this cards flavour...
erm...

I mean, what is happening in this card is that the izzet mage is trying to gain knowledge through this machine. He's done too good of a job, because now, his memories are leaking, thus the discard, and thus my comment before.

Regardless, it's around par, if not, better than Inspiration in Limited for the obvious +2 draw. However, the extra Red added to the cost is a little bit of a problem...

The effect is comparable to Fact or Fiction. It costs Red more though, but his is one of the best instant draw spells I've ever seen in standard.

DoragonShinzui hit the nail on the head.
This should have cost 2BlueRed because, as it stands, it's a multicolored card that's pretty much strictly worse than Tidings.
Fall of the Gavel is another uncommon card that similarly would have made a great spell had it only cost 2WhiteBlue.

Legit card, I'd play this no matter who tells me whether or not they think it's good. The graveyard's a good place to stash some Forbidden Alchemys and Faithless Lootings in some kind of crazy Grixis deck. Also, great card for Omniscience, for those of us who refuse to drop $20 on Sphinx's Revelation.

Seems that the Izzet take the "thinking cap" literally.

3.5/5

Goblin Electromancer makes the cost a lot sweeter. Discarding flahsback spells helps to eke extra value out of this. Helps you dig for combo pieces. Solid card for Budget Izzet.

Apparently, Divination + Wild Guess for the same combined CMC in one card at instant speed = MIND BLOWN!

But seriously, I'm a big fan of the Izzet, and the flavor alone makes this my favorite draw spell.

EDIT
Maybe closer to a combined Inspiration + Faithless Looting.

The fact that Opportunity is currently in standard just sort of outclasses this poor guy. Only being able to gain two cards for a five cmc card is mediocre.

It lets you go 4 cards deep into your library at instant speed. That's pretty damn good already. In the right deck, you should be dropping 2 flashback cards into your graveyard, or perhaps useful stuff that you can get back with Snapcaster Mage, Unburial Rites, and the like. This card is far better than its current rating of 2.95/5. I personally give it a 4.5/5 because not only does it let you draw 4 for 3BlueRed, but it lets you discard 2 cards in a format where your graveyard is an easily-accessible resource.

edit: Now mostly outclassed by Steam Augury, and with flashback out of Standard this drops from a 4.5 to a 3.5. Still a decent option though.

Sometimes, discarding can prove to be a small upside. Especially now that Izzet has Spellheart Chimera.
