It's hard to justify playing this when you have the much more flexible Sphinx's Revelation. Even at six mana, which is the only point where Opportunity is better, four cards and three cards + 3 life aren't that far apart.

You're comparing an uncommon to a mythic rare?

Mind Spring for 4 is good enough once think twice is out of the format. Seeing as you are only going to cast either when you have time to spare to refuel. This nets you 4 cards for 6 mana while think twice nets you 2 for 5.

@sweetgab - You also have to realize that Sphinx's Revelation is a Blue/White, where this is just blue. Before, Blue control decks that don't run White didn't really have a way to restock their hand in a big way. Blue-white decks should run shinx's rev, no doubt, but if you DON'T run those colors, this is a spectacular alternative.

An opportunity? I know of a certain dracogenius who would be more than happy to use it.

Let's just hope that sneaky notion thief doesn't get there first.

For people who can't afford the hefty price tag on Sphinx's Revelation, this card is a godsend. Same for decks such as Grixis which can't play Sphinx's anyway.

Sphinx's Revelation is also strictly less hawt :3

just look at her! there's obviously nothing better than what could conceivably be a totally naked lady but because it's not actually showing anything bad, it gets through the new, tougher art direction censors.

<3

I totally like practically every female in the arts of M14 more than many previous cards. the armor is being done more accurately, and the sexy is being done more teasingly and mysteriously. this is ALL to the good! :D

Love the reprint, the art, and especially the flavourtext, good job.
Comparing uncommons to mythic rares is pointless, especially a 1 colour uncommon to a 2 colour mythic.

If you're running white, Sphinx's Revelation is obviously better. This card just says that you have alternatives if you don't want to run white.

So am I the only one who absolutely hates this version of the card? It's completely off flavor. The art is an uncomfortably close shot of a weird girl wearing a Mox Sapphire looking at the 4BlueBlue with a blank expression. What the heck does that have to do with drawing cards?!? This should be the art of some Control Magic variant, not Opportunity.

The flavor text, while kinda insightful, goes against the flavor of the card itself, that it's a card all about waiting all the way up until turn 6+, waiting even until the end of your opponent's next turn in case they play something you want to counter/remove, and then at the right moment, you grab the opportunity to draw cards; in other words, it IS something you wait for!

Just compare it to the 7th edition Opportunity. That one actually shows somebody taking advantage of an opportunity to steal some stuff, and has a great flavor text to match it. But yeah, I'm still happy about this reprint because it lets me use my old copies in Standard.

People need to compare this card with what's currently in the format and evaluate it that way. Think Twice 2 mana and 3 mana flashback, draws 2 cards for 5 mana. Inspiration 4 mana, draws 2 cards. Sphinx's Revelation Costs 3X mana to draw X cards gain X life. Ok disregarding the Sphinx all the other options can be played earlier to dig for answers. Think Twice has flexibility, even if you are discarding it, you have 1 more use out of the graveyard. Concentrate doesn't its all or nothing but it can be played at the opponent's turn. In the Late game is where this card shines and people are obviously comparing it to Sphinx but Sphinx is a $20-30 card this is .15 at most. Plus Sphinx requires a bigger mana commitment in white. IN order for Sphinx to draw 4 cards, you have to pay 7 mana and you are gaining 4 life as well.

In magic the difference in 1 turn is crucial. turn 6 draw 4 cards and find a removal spell is very good for Opportunity. But Turn 6 and gain 3 life and draw 3 cards is also good for Sphinx. The two cards function in similar ways but if I wanted a cheaper alternate it would definitely be Opportunity. Its linear but easier on my wallet.

Just a huge beating in limited. Resolving one of these will usually win you the game. Not to mention, you can even use it to deck your opponent in really long games!

This may sound sexist, but when I first saw this card I couldn't help but think that the name "Opportunity" would be a great/horrible name for a stripper..... I mean... exotic dancer...

The rating is a little low IMO. No doubt Revelation is heaps better the majority of the time and the potential to pay additional cost is greatly advantageous, but in many respects, opportunity is better. I realize that the life gain from rev allows the control player flexibility against aggro/burn decks but from a hardcore control player's standpoint, card advantage is what's going to win the game. Keep in mind that's making a lot of assumptions about card advantage and the fact that this is magic where decks have land cards in them, not yugioh where card advantage literally wins over 95% of all games ((where a card that has about a 1/3 chance of being this good was a common card worth more than most rare+ cards in the set it came in and was banned after just 6 months) Just IMO I would rather have another card instead of the life most of the time.

Think of it like a supercar. You can get a fast car with a big engine but no luxury fittings, just built to go and go fast or you can get a better car with a lot of trim and more customization options at a much higher price. Arguing on price vs. utility from an economics standpoint, for many the cheaper option with similar capabilities will outshine the more expensive, highly specialized second option.

Oh and yeah, you can use this in a pinch to deck your opponent ;)

I've been using this in non-white based control decks and it's been doing wonders. Four cards for six mana at the end of your opponent's turn is very efficient, and I think we've just been spoiled with other card-draw spells as of late. I really hope this gets reprinted in M15. My BUG control deck needs it!
