Its a good card, but really? Why would they bring back horsemanship? We might see banding again soon too. Basically should be read as unblockable at this point.

They didn't "Bring back horesmanship". This is the From the Vault set. These are merely collector's editions of already printed cards. None of these cards are legal anthing but the eternal formats.

Yes it was an obscure choice, but a good choice nonetheless.
I don't think anyone would have wanted another Alara legend thrown in place. It's horrible how many recent legends there are in this set. From the Vault my butt, only like 3-4 could be arguably "From the Vault". Plus adding in Rafiq was a horrible choice, the artist was practically forced to create art that could never live up to the original, double fail.
They needed to put in more obscure older legends like Sun Quan to make it feel From the Vault. Sisay and Visara were nice additions too, and arguably Kiki-Jiki is old enough, but the rest are too recent (not counting Mikaeus for obvious reasons).

@pedrodyl I disagree. The whole set is awesome for EDH and it seems to have been put together with that in mind. Sun Quan is an awesome enabler for the big game-changing attack, perfect for EDH.

I mean no offense, but this From the Vault feels like Wizards was grasping for anything to rush it out.

6 mana for a 4/4 that makes your dudes unblockable (Pretty much). Not really befitting an awe-inpiring Mythic Rare Legendary Creature put in a set with throwbacks to some of the coolest Legendaries. I mean look at the other creatures in from the vaults that do such cool stuff and have abilities that are unique and you can build around. This guy and Cao Cao, Lord of Wei seem like boring choices from a boring set.

I'm going to put him in My Rafiq of the Many edh deck... it's knight themed (not Rafiq themed...) and this would be a really cool way to demonstrate all my knights are awesome on horseback!

@Evil_Tactics: If they really wanted to make this set a callback to old, forgotten classics, they really ought to have dusted off one of the handful of good creatures from the original Legends set.

I'm kind of flabbergasted that people are dunking on the awesomness of the gameplay abilities of this card. You play it and then attack with everyone else right away, and your opponent only has a Doom Blade or kicked Burst Lightning or something to save his ass. Yes, blue can do agressive decks. No, it's not a perfect card, and no, it doesn't light up the tournament scene. Oh well.

Did anyone want this? They should have just printed Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed, secondary marked be damned. It's not on the reserved list, and the reserved list is the only statement Wizards has made about protecting the secondary market, they shouldn't even consider the value of non-reserved list cards.

Yeah this was a rather obscure choice for FTV. lol damn there is a lot of hate-rating going on in this comment section
The Mentor is just a little bit more realistic, since it is not only about $0.25 (in comparison to $5+), but it is uncommon, and doesn't make your opponents cringe.
Fortunately and unfortunately, the Mentor only helps Blue creatures. I suppose if it helped all creatures, then that'd just be broken.
Are you kidding me? Extremely obscure evasion that maybe 95% of players wouldn't prepared for before this rerelease? Yes please! I think most players would stare at you blankly if you told them your creature had horsemanship lol. On top of that he's a 4/4 so he holds up to bolts...okay granted his cmc is a little high but he will end games

Holy shit. This is pretty amazing. It basically makes everything nigh-unblockable since there are barely any Horsemanship cards nowadays.

From the Vault really irks me, I always thought it would be funny to run this guy as an EDH general but now that every kid with their parents credit card can just go buy it and some other equally ruined classic cards the fun has left the room.

As an avid, casual EDH player, i for one was excited to see something this... odd, and powerfull in an off-the wall maner. blue is full of fun ways to take advantage of unblocked creatures for one. Also, imagine running in a mono blue ninja deck with lots of bounce.

@Evil_Tactics: It's a pity they didn't include any legends from Legends. Granted that most of them sucked, and even the cool ones were often pretty generic by modern standards (Adun Oakenshield, say; Angus Mackenzie is very usable but probably bad for the game.)
Rasputin Dreamweaver would have been nice, though -- he's an interesting card that almost no modern players have ever gotten to play. Hazezon Tamar is cool, too, if a bit overpriced.
Unfortunately they're probably all on the reserved list, now that I think about it. Why doesn't WotC just remove everything but the Power Nine from that list? Do they really think anyone still cares?

While it is true that there were too many Alara Block Legends in the set, I have noticed, with the Power Creep of creatures and whatnot, that basically...well, a lot of the good Commanders DO come from Alara, for certain color identities. :/
3-Colors seems to be Optimal Colors for Commander. Not 2, you don't get enough variety of spells- either your games get 'stale' (very similar to each other, whether your deck is power-balanced or not), or your deck actually has vulnerabilities. Since Alara was the first block to have 3-colored Legends since....Legends..umm...Rafiq of the Many, now in 2013, I believe still deserves to be in the Vault. Kresh does not. Sharuum I am not sure of.
1., 2. An Elder Dragon, plus one other Legends Legend (not all of them are Reserved) 3. (1) ONE Portal Legend (this guy), 4.,5. 2 Weatherlight Legends (Captain Sisay and Gerard Capashen- because you HAVE to have Gerrard, I think), 6.,7. 2 Time Spiral Legends (Teferi and Jhoira of the Ghitu), 8. one Mirari-Arc Legend (Akroma, Phage, Kamahl
That covers "Old Skool" But leaves room for "New Hotness" Face it- Modern Legends are better now.
9. A Guild Legend (Momir Vig or Rakdos, the Defiler?) 10. A Shard Legend (Rafiq) 11. A Hybrid Legend (Oona) 12. An Eldrazi (Ulamog) 13. Innistrad Preview (Mikaeus) 14. A Phyrexian Legend (Skithyrix or Glissa, the Traitor or a Praetor) 15. A Kamigawa Legend (Kiki-Jiki)
This means we lose Doran. Or we cut Kiki-Jiki. And maybe two Legends Legends is too many, but still lose a Pit Fighter. And Progenitus. From the Vault: Legends really would have benefitted from being 20 cards large...because both the old and new kinda needed to be in.

@Androx: If you can't stand not being the only "special" player, so what? The other kids were getting sick of your Black Lotus 1 turn wins that you could do just because you started playing from the beginning anyway.
From the Vault is one of the best gifts Wizards has done. If only they'd just realize how jerk it is to refuse to reprint the most epic cards just because it'll drop their resale value for people that were foolish enough to blow their life savings to get one...

@HungryFreak - Even better than Emrakul would be Nicol Bolas cruising in on a stallion!
Now they'll need to block flying slivers that are riding horses. It might not be as efficient as Shifting Sliver, but it's 100 times more awesome, and that's all that matters.
