Just because I heard the name before the card, and think this is the most appropriate place to put it:
WHY DIDN'T THEY PRINT GISA OR GERALF?
(Or Ludevic for that matter.)

8 power for 6. So why isn't this good?

I'll take grave titan instead.

Gisa and Geralf. The Wonder Twins of Magic.

@infernox10: Hopefully, because they plan on going back to Innistrad in about five or six years, and they need to save some cool characters to print.

@ Inferno 10, They don't print every character as a legendary often they do it as a regular creature, like how Captain Ria Ivor, was printed as Hero of Bladehold, although a big enough character for story prespective she just wasn't unique enough to warrent legendary status.... In Geralfs case i belive the card was Havengul Runebinder.... Not sure about Gisa though!

Sure, it's not as good as Grave Titan or Wurmcoil Engine. Or Mitotic Slime any of the other titans, for that matter, or blah blah whatever. There are three points worth keeping in mind anyway when considering this card.

1. With only one colored mana in its mana cost, it's more splashable than the titans. In Limited formats, that matters.

2. Innistrad is a tribal block. There are a ton of Zombie lords in Standard at the moment. Comparing this to Mitotic Slime by itself, obviously it's worse; it costs 1 more to cast and doesn't give you four 1/1s. But compare it to Mitotic Slime with a Diregraf Captain out, and it's a 5/5 that gives you two 3/3s when it dies and your opponent loses 1 life when each of them dies. That's definitely worth paying 1 more for. See also Cemetery Reaper, Ghoulcaller's Chant, Gravecrawler, Havengul Runebinder, Rooftop Storm, Unbreathing Horde, Undead Alchemist, Zombie Apocalypse...

3. No, obviously it's not a top-tier tournament caliber card. So what? If they all were, the game would suck. It's a decent card for some formats and in lots of more casual decks.

I love the flavor and utility of this card. He's also a great pull in Sealed.

Only time I would ever use it is in conjunction with Diregraf Captain. The only way it's remotely worth the six mana.

This guy is great in token decks. Simply have Parellel Lives out, then start pumping your token generators.

Other token generators -

Moan of the Unhallowed
Doomed Traveller
Nested Ghoul
Grave Titan
Timely Reinforcements
Kessig Cagebreakers
Spider Spawning
Mausoleum Guard

and run buffs for those tokens too -

Intangible Virtue
Selfless Cathar
Overrun
Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

Btw, Gisa is now known as Gisa, the Mad? So, not only is she now imprisoned (see Hunted Ghoul ), but she has also lost her mind. I hope at least Geralf is ok. I'm guessing we'll have to wait until next set to see, much like we had to wait until Scars to see what happened to Geth.

Strictly worse than Wurmcoil Engine? How often do you see a Wurm tribal deck compared to a Zombie tribal deck? Also, this is a lot more affordable than any Mitotic Slime or Grave Titan for a budget player.

And so it was, through this card, that I first encountered Mike Sass.

Any creature that can single-handedly generate infinite mana with Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle is good in my book. Sure there are cards that kinda do it better or at least for cheaper, but it's nice to have options, for instance in one EDH deck (Sek'kuar, Deathkeeper), I was able to disperse some of my creature tutors to other decks because these conjoined fellas and others like them were able negate my need to tutor for the right creatures. I admit however, that every time I transmuted Netherborn Phalanx (before I took it out) it was to find Grave Titan...
