This is the oddest-looking Rakalite I've ever seen.

My God. Someone seriously overestimated how good flexible damage prevention was.
This is not quite as horrible as it first appears since you can use the activated ability several times in the same turn, possibly on several different targets, before having to return it. But it's still an awful card, simply because six mana up front, and six more if you want to use it again on a different turn, is way too much to ask. At a far lower mana cost, say 1, this card might be considered a classic instead of just another piece of overcosted chaff from the game's early days. I don't know who on Earth or in low orbit could possibly have thought six mana was reasonable.
Why is everyone saying this got mixed up? BTW WHAT DA STANGG IS THIS PIECE OF FLARG?

if there was a counterpart to the "Power 9" this would have a chance to be on it.

Wotc felt bad for making Christopher Rush draw Black Lotus (potentially the worst card in magic amirite?). So they printed this obviously broken card and left the art up to him. Congrats Chris! You're a big shot now dawg.

I use this in my Storm Crow deck. Works like a charm!
TO BE FAIR, you can use this multiple times in 1 turn, making it effectively: Pay X - Prevent 1/2X damage. Still, it costs WAY too much. It should cost 2 at most.
Don't rate it down just because you don't know how to play it.

{8} to prevent ONE DAMAGE? The worst card ever printed. Prove me wrong.

If you have an insane amount of mana, this is a repeatable fog. Or you could just use Angus Mackenzie.
But this can stop a fireball in its tracks, if you have 2x + 6 your opponents mana base. I could make a deck where this shines, but that's kind of trolling.
Play it with Mox Lotus and use it as a Fog just to *** your opponent off.

Although Rakalite is an absolutely terrible card, it is not the worst card ever printed. Keep in mind that this is NOT (8) to prevent 1 damage. By that logic, Exalted Angel is an absolutely terrible "seven-drop." You cast the rakalite, then on other turns you can use all of your mana to prevent damage.

While Rakalite is definitely one of the worst cards ever, at least it actually does something, unlike cards like Celestial Prism, North Star, Deep Water, Pale Moon, and Break Open.
