It could be one of the most useless cards ever made. I love it.

Put that on a stick and your opponent can't play non-artifact spells. Then again, there are probably better things to put on a stick

s0phocles you've misred the card. It only affect nonbasic lands. So its even more useless than you thought.

It's #1 on Ben Bleiweiss's list of the 100 worst Magic Cards ever printed!!

gotta get me one of those.. Just for the record xD

A far too specific ability to be useful without being a cantrip or at least a slowtrip.
It might be chosen by Ben Bleiweiss as #1 crap card, and he said it'd still be pretty useless as cantrip, but I've got still some cards in mind i consider slightly worse than this one.

Given that you actually play against a deck with a no or very few artifacts that only uses nonbasics (which is already quite rare, but still not as unlikely as several other bad cards which act in a very specific way in non-block-constructed play), you can at least for one turn Silence him/her and prevent paying certain activated or triggered abilities. And yeah, talking about Silence and such, this one is a hundred times better for instance. And you are even affected by this drawback as well, but consider that you might already tapped out or kept your basic lands untapped for further spells.

But of course this one is certainly still not playable an incredibly bad pick afterall.
Gotta spash blue for my Chimney Imp deck...

I heard that this was one of the worst cards ever printed... I've seen worse, much worse...

I could actually use this for something, and truth be told, I would hate for my opponent to use this on me. I don't get why it has such a low rating.

wait... None basic land?!
Oh... never mind. it gets: */2

Why dose it have a whole star?

In a format where a lot of non-basic lands are played, if you cast this during your opponent's upkeep, won't you shut him down for the turn?

Could be useful in the sideboard vs an opponent you know doesn't have much/any artifacts and play a lot of non-basic land.

This card isn't getting the credit it deserves. Blue would be much more powerful in standard if they reprinted this card.

This needs to be an enchantment, as an instant it is utter worthless. At first glance I assumed it was an enchantment.

it's not completely useless, if your playing casual artifact with un-cards, staying power and this pretty much locks out any oter non artiact deck

I thought it was a softer mana short...then I realized it only affected nonbasics.

Use it in a colorless EDH deck with Isochron Scepter.

Looking for another crappy card? Check out Ertai's Trickery!
(then post something like this with a different crap card; eventually all of them will be linked in one big crap-happy chain!)

You can't cast this in response to anything though. Mana abilities resolve the moment they are activated, so you would need to play this at the beginning of their turn to have it do anything. Plus, you can tap all the lands you need in response, before this card can affect them.

1 out of 5? Say what? Considering how many dual lands players have these days, this card has a good chance to hose many decks. Just cast it during their upkeep. Yes they can tap their dual lands for mana, however that mana disappears at the end of the upkeep step.

Against the right deck, this card reads: Until end of turn, target player can't cast colored spells or activate abilities with colored mana costs. Nowadays, this card would probably cost Blue and/or cantrip, but still, far better than its current 1.169 rating.

Mana Short. Technically doesn't effect multiple opponents, but why would you want to hose someone when it's not even their turn?

If anyone does not get the art (it took me a while) those are not giant bugs. They are a Rathi Terrain Generator used to shape flowstone into the invasive lands of the...erm rathi invasion.

I've played against people for whom I could find use for this. Situational sideboard stuff for opponents who depend on nonbasic land for colored mana. They're certainly out there.

Well, this is close to a silence verse a deck with 0 basic lands.

But it might be the worst card ever designed, just because of the time it was made and how useless it was in its environment.

@JFM2796
Too bad that dosen't work, because you cant run blue in a colorless EDH deck :/
Good idea though
This card is pretty awful, I prefer my non-basics tap for something useful, but it could be a good card to play at the start of an opponents turn for a mono-blue silence.

Re: Isochron Scepter.

Your deck doesn't need to be colorless. This only lasts for the turn you activate it, so just don't use it during yours.

It still sucks, though. There are much better things to put on an Isochron Scepter.

This would be too overpowered if it was a sorcery, I'm glad they limited it by making it an instant.

This card... is the worst card I've ever seen. It was released at a time when most nonbasic lands rarely gave mana OTHER than colorless and it's of limited use even today since it doesn't deny mana, just colored mana. Even with the modern proliferation of dual color lands it sucks because it has no lasting influence and shuts down YOUR dual color lands as well, thus preventing you from casting good counterspells. It was also released in the same block (and rarity slot) as Parallax Tide which works MUCH better as a land hoser. If it was an Enchantment or cantrip then it would be still be bad, but it would at least do SOMETHING. As it stands, the card may as well read "Wave goodbye to two mana".
