Oh my god, EMBLEMS ARE NOT A MECHANIC. It's a rule designed to make Elspeth's final ability make more sense. She and Venser are the only two cards at all to have them and they've already said that they're only using them rarely. Man, people are stupid.

@A3Kitsune: You're right about Koth of the Hammer having an Emblem ability, but so does Venser, the Sojourner. Venser's Emblem ability states "Whenever you cast a spell, exile target permanent."
@Lutorius: Yes, Elspeth, Knight-Errant will be legal in Extended for quite some time. Although she's still legal in Standard until October since Scars hasn't been released yet, when that happens, Alara block rotates out so the only way you'd be able to use her in Standard is if you pull an Elspeth Tirel.

Edit: Yea, there is a new Venser with an Emblem ability coming out in Scars of Mirrodin. I didn't know about him when I made my original comment, so I as sumed theelk801 was refering to Venser, Shaper Savant. My mistake.

The art is nice, but seems to lack detail. Her armour, particularly her shoulder guards, look like they're made of styrofoam. And the card is ridiculously shiny. It's a little surreal.
That being said, I love the cloak and her stance. I'm glad I bought one of the duel decks. It's like I actually paid 25 dollars for an Elspeth, and they threw in a Tezzeret and a bunch of other cards.
@Richard_Hawk A poor man's Tirel? Are you out of your mind? Even this version is $17.50. A foil Shards one is 50. I wouldn't say that this version is inferior to Tirel, either.

I love the card. Only one - ability? this card kicks @ss in my W/B deck with Demon of Deaths Gate. I hate the artwork forthis version though.

I'm sorry, I frankly think this art is hideous. I usually like Kieryluk's art but the art he did for the planeswalkers in this set both look bad, this one particularly so.
That of course has no impact on the fact that this is a very strong PW. I don't think she's weaker than her Tirel version at all; she protects herself while boosting her loyalty, she Angelic Blessings and boosts her loyalty; and the only thing that drains her loyalty is an absolutely bonkers ultimate. Coming in at 4 loyalty is no slouch of a stat either.
She sits at the magic planeswalker number of converted mana cost 4. She gains loyalty for protecting herself, and gains loyalty for bashing your face in when she doesn't need protecting. She has a game-ending ultimate. She's of the best planeswalkers ever, and infinitely better than her other version...lol @ whoever said this was a poor man's elspeth tirel.
One of my favorite cards of all time, but i have to admit that i like the old art better. There isn't enough detail here; it seems hastily done. Unfortunately i failed to open one during alara block, so i had to settle for this (which is only going for ten bucks online).

I read the name of this card and though "Oh cool, Knight-Errant, maybe there is a place for a planeswalker in my mono-white knight tribal!"
And then she made soldier tokens. I am so disappointed...on second thought she is actually is quite interesting.

I one time lost count of my life... Yep i think i got over 100 thousnad life. Sad for my opponent (My Older Bro. but not the one with the older version of elspeth). The sad part for me was that he got his creatures over 10/10.
It is a good thing that they weren't flying. My guy was also industructable. I could use that spell on elspeth :). Than Ajani can bring the Avatar or whatever it was out and i would go complete Super Ultament Over Kill!!! :)

Yay for soldier tribal! Does anyone know where I can get the dual decks themselves? It's like $45 on Amazon, and Elspeth herself is 20-30. I think it would be more worth my money to buy the whole package.

But yes, this card going in any white deck. It protects itself, it can launch and power up its own tokens, and then it makes all your stuff indestructible.

this card came out near the end of my tenure as a regular magic player and completely warped the metagame where i live. there was no more variety in how you could win a game. if you played elspeth white weenie at FNM, you won. it was that way for a few weeks until blightning took control.

Beautiful art, Elspeth never ceases to dispapoint. Comes in T4 for 4 mana for 4 p/t. Comes in quite early in the game. +1 is so easily abused. Like Sorin's, you will soon have many tokens at your bay. +1 is good for getting rid of monsters that progressively get stronger (stromkrik, at say 3/3) or you just want to deal big. Usually good for finishing games off. -8 Ult comes in in 4 turns but is so overpowered. If your opponent is stupid and leaves Elspeth alive, she will keep all your permanents alive and nothing will stop her. Not Breaking Point, not Bonfire of the Damned. Nothing.

The change to the Planeswalker Uniqueness rule will now let you use her second ability, cast another Elspeth, sac the first, and then use her second ability again. Ajani 3.0's second ability can be abused in a similar fashion. That's a pretty big push for getting more damage through in white.

The only main competition to Liliana of the Veil for no.2 planeswalker. I would still say Liliana just about wins but this is still an incredible card.

I've only seen the ability on planeswalkers.
