This seems like a ridiculously easy way to slap four powerup counters on a creature, unless I'm reading it wrong. Be that as it may, if I can get ahold of this, I will probably play it.

This card is very good. The first time that someone plays at the prerelease I was thinking that this card had a typo and had to need more counters.

So, very good, play it if you play green in sealed.

a nice quest, a strong pump and you notice it takes one of your creatures well beyond a lightning bolt range

I love how this Card gives Green a form of Evasion, by making your opponent not want to block your creatures.

What is the Idea of the quest? How does a creature get the blades? Is it supposed to mean that a creature gets the swords in combat?

Goblin Razerunners or Mycoloth? Burn your opponent's ass for 4 or spawn 4 saprolings per turn?

inb4 someone else brings up the combo between this and Joraga Warcaller from worldwake.

Much cheaper then pumping him up with multikicker, and will be a standard legal combo

This card is totally awesome
I really enjoy the looks on the faces of those players that are new to the game and do not have the ability yet to recognize the added value of such cards as these...

And yeah the combo with Joraga Warcaller and quest of the gemblades IS A KILLER

Pity quest of the gemblades is just not that quick enough to resolve when there is no counter on it yet and blocking...

Anyway a must in any weenie deck?!

Using this on a creature with double strike would probably work well also. After the first hit, you've got a counter and can slap the +1/+1s down for the second hit!

This card looks better than it is. It basically has the curse of the Enchantment - Aura. On its own the card does nothing, but when targeting your creature to give it a permanent +4/+4 it looks good. Until you remember that requires two cards and your opponent knows you can do it (because the quest sits in play instead of your hand). If the creature you target with this gets targeted with removal in response, you have lost two cards and your opponent only lost one card. That's assuming they have creatures to trigger the quest at all.

The idea is that people won't want to block when this is on the field.
And what do I care if they waste a removal spell on my Elvish Visionary so they can have card advantage.
It just means they won't be using it on something better.
Card advantage isn't always the best way to go.

faster than Beastmaster Ascension..+4/+4 surprise when you need it.

While this card does suffer from the aura curse, as soon as it has a counter on it, it can just sit there, waiting to be used in response to removal by damage. An added plus: if there are no counters on it, your opponent might not want to block your creature, even with, say, a Wall of Denial, knowing that he'd add a counter on that thing.

Great in limited, ok in casual or EDH, but not so sure for constructed.

If damage still went on the stack, this card would be ludicrous. In the same vein, it's probably great with first-strikers...or double strikers? :)

It's hard to tell, but they're actually looking for infect creatures like Plague Stinger, opponents hesitant to block? Tangle Angler

Stupid Question, but does this trigger a creature "becomes the target of a spell." Since it's already cast and a permanent, I would assume that it doesn't trigger Livewire Lash.

just pop it on Troll ascetic or Thrun if you're afraid of the ever present "dies to removal" arguement.

I love the art these past couple of years... some of the best in Fantasy, period! Been awhile since I've played anything except casually, and I'm looking to get back into Tournaments... Elf Deck with Fauna Shaman and Elvish Piper . As blockers, would this be a decent paired with Phantom Centaur ? If not, any suggestions here plz?

This, and Blightwidow won me a game after getting hit by Emrakul, The Aeons Torn! (True story)

I had two of these, and my Blightwidow with totem armour and six other permanents. Swung at by Emrakul (who was happily bullying the game, a three-way multiplayer), keep the spider, these two and the totem armour, then block with the spider, losing the totem.

My go? He had no blockers, and I hadn't even poisoned the bugger yet. Sacced the two of these to Blightwidow for eight +1/+1 counters, and 10 poison counters was his. He shook my hand right then and there. Best moment of my MTG career!

This is a nicely balanced card. I like the fact that it puts tension on your opponent, making it much more awkward for him to block your attacks.

This card states
"Remove a quest counter from Quest for the Gemblades and sacrifice it: Put four +1/+1 counters on target creature."
Now does this mean to sacrifice the counter or the actual Quest for Gemblades card when you use this feature...?

Development worked a lot on the quests.

First this was a one mana common quest

G
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, put a quest counter on CARDNAME. Remove five quest counters from CARDNAME and sacrifice it: Gain 10 life.

This was OK, but not great, so we tried to change it up. We changed this from "enters the battlefield" to "cast" to make this a reward for creature decks instead of token decks. Ultimately we moved that trigger to white, and created Quest for the Holy Relic.

Still we needed a green quest. So we made an uncommon one mana quest:

G
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to another creature, put a quest counter on CARDNAME. Remove three quest counters from CARDNAME and sacrifice it: put three +1/+1 counters on target creature.

The problem was that this quest never kicked in. You needed creature combat three times, and you needed to put your opponent in a position to have creature combat with you three times.

So we made the quest easier, charged more mana, and added a fourth counter. The rewards are pretty big. We do this every now and then; in Scars of Mirrodin, we made Infiltration Lens which to me says "usually, just don't block this creature", but in a more interesting way than just "equipped creature is unblockable."

The card says "Remove a quest counter from Quest for the Gemblades and sacrifice it".
Do you sacrifice the counter, or do you sacrifice the enchantment?

Evidently Gemblades are ten-a-penny. Anyway, I run this in my U/G Infect deck, where I can proliferate the counters this puts on a creature afterwards.

lets see whats going for it:
Its got nice art
Its cheep
The buff is big
The buff is permanent
It only needs one counter
all in all its a very good card.

I use it in mono green commander to get Ezuri, Renegade Leader out of burn range.

I plan on using it on a slumbering dragon.

Turn 1: forest, llanowar elf or similar mana 1 drop
Turn 2: mountain, quest, dragon
turn 2.5: watch as they are afraid to enter combat until they have a removal spell.

If your opponent cooperates you can have an 8/8 flying dragon very quickly. If they don't, they lose tempo. Win/Win situation for quite cheap.

The Quests look really kooky only a few laters. I would like if R&D tried making a few more Quests, like, in Core Sets, but probably it's not something they are interested in.

Personally, I don't like how this one feels if you try to match up "MTG logic" to "DnD logic" OR "Indiana Jones logic", something most of Zendikar block was pretty good at. It feels like it's way too much Magic for too little effort, but it doesn't have enough flavor for a normal "I win" card. With the potential power I see, I would have wished it was a more exciting card visually, like Quest for Pure Flame. This feels a bit more like, oddly, a pretty common just-lying-around enchantment is good enough to make most creatures just plain monsters.

No downside, and nothing even in the flavor text speaking to the probable power of the card. I don't think it's exactly bad- more like this feels like it could be a Rare, could have Moar Epic in the art, and would almost be ok. All you'd need is to add Trample? It just doesn't feel common or uncommon because it's "So good it actually works". Usually the Common Quests aren't totally worth...um..going on.
