This actually makes red defense plausible.

I used this card in a G/R defender deck this past weekend to devastating effect. Fast small defenders, turn 4 one of these, turn 5 another with first sets of damage from #1.

Its really difficult to contend with 5-10 damage per turn from walls. This card is excellent in a defender deck. Must have.

I pulled a pack with this and Rage Nimbus next to each other.

Try Vent sentinel in a low casting cost sliver deck with Dormant sliver. This deck shall be at least 3 colors: red, blue, green. Put a sliver into play (it has defender with Dormant), draw a card, and put another sliver into play for big damage from Vent sentinel. Also, you might like to play Hivestone too with Crystalline sliver to shroud you vent, but it would need a 4th color to you deck, white. But with Gemhide sliver, who said that 5 color deck were impossible...

Vent Sentinel is extremely good, but I'd really wish there was a white equivalent which gained life instead of damage too.

I myself own a RGW defender deck using Overgrown Battlement and Wall of Blossoms to justify green over blue (Guard Gomazoa and Wall of Denial), yet I find it very hard to deal with flyers. Other than Wall of Reverance and perhaps Sunweb (actually pretty decent), choices seem limited unless you're going to include some of green's flying hate (which could get stuck in your hand if your opponents haven't got flying creatures...:S)

The other win condition of my hydra/defender deck. I fuel Vent Sentinels and Overgrown Battlements with my Sprouting Phytohydra tokens and either:

A.) Put out enormous hydras since most of them get bigger based on how much you pay, or
B.) go for direct damage with the Vent Sentinel

Great card, can't believe it's a common, that just seems ridiculous. However, I give it 3/5 because of lack of application outside of a deck based around defenders

Heavy artillery for a defender deck. Turns defense into offense relatively easily.

I love everything there is about this card

standard power and toughness for a card with such an abusable effect.

This and Overgrown Battlement just made defender decks good. Just put those two together and a whole bunch of walls, throw in fireballs and you've go t two wincons and a fortress

despite red's aggressive flavor, it has some good walls, notably aether membrane.

@blindthrall
That is impossible. The uncommons are ALLWAYS next to the rare.

Well, you know what they say: a good offense is a good... defender.

I love this card to no end. It inspired the second deck I ever made, a RB defender deck for multiplayer games with my friends. It used cards like wall of souls and aether membrane to encourage players to attack elsewhere, then eventually finish off dangerous players in 1-2 turns with this card. I actually still use it today, however now it leans more green for axebane guardian and sprouting phytohydra and has alternate wincons like pontiff of blight.

I've always loved this card just because of how epic it is as a creature: a mountainous lava golem flinging balls of molten rock across the sky...absolutely awesome.
