Double for CC 2 is always cool, and this one is so much easier to cast then boros swiftblade.

Pretty good red drop for 2 CMC. Only wish the second ability was different.

I love this card, from the artwork to the usefulness in combat. Third turn, thanks to a Trace of Abundance, I was able to send 12 right to the dome thanks to his pump and Colossal Might.

This guy is the main condition for a 4-turn win in my red/green deck, dropping him on turn 2 and then Colossal Might and Giant Growth on turn 3 hurts. A lot.

Absolutely good with Quest for the Gemblades and Bramblewood Paragon. Giving you the advantage that you can play the Paragon even after the Slaughtermaster and the Slaughtermaster will still have trample due to the counters of the Gemblades. A four turn kill:
1. Lanowar Elves 2. Bramblewood Paragon 3. Quest fo the Gemblades then Slaughtermaster with counter(Paragon), damage with the Paragon to activate the Blades or wait to block an creature, which is more likely. 4. sac. the Gemblades to Slaughtermaster and play Colossal Might and attack with a 10/7 double striking creature for lethal damage. :-)

I don't see why this is rated so low.
Hell, i'd run a 0/1 double strike for 2 mana.

@Test-Subject:
Nice pun, but now every time I read the card name I see "Viashino Laughtermaster"....
This has got to be one of the most metal cards ever. Let's work downwards.
1. The name is amazingly perfect, "Slaughtermaster" sounds like it came right out of a Slayer song!! 2. The artwork is great. All the spikes everywhere, he looks just like Rob! Except, you know, more lizardy and less god-like. He also gets bonus points for having a spikey club. 3. The flavourtext. Oh my gawd. This totally pulled it all together for me. Sounds like something we can say to the government!! \m/
"+1/+1 until end of turn"
Yeah!
"Only once per turn"

One of the few creatures where it's actually a kindness and a good thing that it's ability says "Activate only once each turn". Feasableness wise, I just don't see it being good to be activating this more than once a turn. If your deck is THAT Gold, it can do better things with Green and Black than to cast Red creatures. BUT, lets say you're a Red-based Jund deck running pretty much 4 Savage Lands and maybe only 5-6 other lands that produce colored non-Red mana? THEN this guy is a really cool option as an early drop to help you fight through the middle game and get to the end game where you slam down Hellkite Overlord.
It's NOT an ability I'd want to be tempted into trying to activate as a mana sink, because the hoops you have to go through for that aren't gonna end up worth it, but it most definitely IS worth it just like this, and maybe throw in some Rancor in your deck, some other this-and-thats, and make a nice Budget Jund build that's actually Jund-flavored. (Bloodbraid Elves need not apply)
i have a pretty fun casual 60 card deck that runs this guy with Claws of Valakut, pretty fun.

Don't be fooled by the activated ability. Viashino Slaughtermaster is perfectly usable in a monored deck. Just cast him/her on turn two, then cast three Brute Forces on turn three, swing for 20.

To all my fellow metal heads, I bid you ado.
HEIL TO THE METAL.
And maybe some swamps to make use of the ability. (Or to add something like Fendeep Summoner.)
Yeah!

Grafted Wargear T3, swing for 8
If they kill him, attach it to your Kor Duelist or Goblin Gaveleer
Piston Sledge and the wellsprings in the same deck make for good times.
