Absolutely ridiculous in a myr deck. When you start skullclamping Myr Retrievers with a Genesis Chamber in play and drop a Coat of Arms...ridiculous.

Who isn't giving this 5 stars? It is INCREDIBLE! It can be used in any kind of themed monster deck from dragons to eldrazi to elves to vampires... anyone rating this below 5 stars needs to play more magic.

Awesome card; Obviously not on the same power level as some of the mind-boggingly ridiculous stuff printed in that block, but a very awesome card nontheless.

I love tribal, and this card is the best mana reducer out there for that. Sure you can drop lords for elves and goblins, or my favorite zombies, but what about all those other creatures? This is where this artifact comes in handy, for creatures like dragons, or call warriors so those Hamletbacks only cost 5!

Awesome in a tribal deck but unless you buy craploads of boosters to make a themed deck (for example a Merfolk deck or an Elf deck) it's about as useful as Strength of Unity would be in a mono-color deck.

@rson20: I guess... I mean. That's a four-card combo right there. That loses to shatters...

Got four of these and i use them on sliver, zombie & eldrazi decks.

There's just one error in this card. It says that the flavor text was spoken by Rayne, Academy Chancellor but it was actually Barrin who spoke those exact words in the book Time Streams.

I choose...Muffin-back Walrus, then play a deck entirely consisting of changelings

I like that the card has such an high rating, since I hope for a 1/1 reprint with changeling (when not in play and choose a creature type when in play). But a card like this is only useful when you play more than 1 card of the chosen type per turn. In any other cases, a simple mana artifact is more useful/versatile (see Worn Powerstone or Thran Dynamo).

Well since this card was created before those books, I think it's the books which are in error.

@StagemasterK: Urza's Destiny was released June 23, 1999; Time Streams was published some time before that (Salvation wiki says May 1999, but claims its first printing was April 1, 1999; Amazon.com says March 1, 1999). Obviously if they both featured the same quote, the author of the book was involved in writing the flavor text, so maybe he had Rayne say it in an earlier draft but changed it to Barrin for the final version.

Note: it costs 2 less. This can make things potentially free.

Imperative in anything even remotely resembling a tribal deck. Myr, Slivers, Elves, Goblins, Beats, Zombie, Eldrazi: you name it. Run 4 of them for maximum profit.

Watch out which tribal you're planning on playing it in. Elves may seem like a tribe that needs this, but remember that lots of them don't have much colourless mana (llanowar Elves, Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary, Joraga Warcaller, Heritage Druid, etc.).

Probably the best tribes for this are Slivers and Myrs. Slivers aren't usually colour-heavy (except for Sliver Legion, Sliver Overlord and Sliver Queen), and Myr's... well, I think it's quite obvious when you're able to play Myr Superion for 0.

Also, remember who you're playing against and what type you choose. If you choose Human, your opponents are bound to have some of their own.

Are you joking? Have you not heard of buying singles?
Ok, a bit of advice to everyone. You, through this database, have access to information on every MTG card ever printed. You can then playtest these decks on Magic Workstation, ***atrice, and several other programs, post them and get advice on MTG Salvation, Tapped Out, or any of the other forums, and repeat until you have a working deck, all without spending a penny. Then you can order the Cards from TCGPlayer , Star City Games, ChannelFireball, Blackborder, or any of the other sites. If you want immediacy, go to your local card store. Don't know where your local card store is? Look up FNM locations on this site, most FNM locations are card stores.
The only times I or anyone I play with even opens packs are sealed events and prizes.
Seriously, if you are at all finance concerned, buying packs usually provides little to no return on investment, and will almost never get you all of what you need for a solid deck. Buy singles. If you're new, buy intro packs and event decks, until you get an idea of how to build. Never buy boosters unless you just hate money.

Oh, right, the card. One of my friends runs it in his Giant Tribal. Good for any high-curve tribe. Very win-more in Elves, Vampires, Zombies, Merfolk or any other low-curve tribes. All in all solid if a bit limited in use. 3.5/5

That's it, I'm going four of these in a Hydra tribal! With all the bonkers hydras coming out of Theros block and M14 this is going to be a casual monster! Pun intended.
