Just play this card with any white or green-white deck, but if you play it with any bant-theme deck and you'll see the true power of this beauty. It will make a Empyrial Archangel a 7/10 beauty and the purge for your unworthy opponents, play a second one and the angel will become your favorite card.

This card is a house. A 4/4 body for a 4 drop is solid (unheard of for a white card) dual +1/+1 bonus gives pumps up any army, in either a white or green deck and is sublime in any white/green deck. Oh yes and it can completely hose discard decks too. I think this will be a staple card for years and will always be a viable sideboard card against any discard deck.

well in a bant theme i`d rather use knight of new alara. but this is a great card though.

I love this card. It has so much room to build around in type two extended and standard(formats I play). Cascading into this is just all kinds of fun, and g/w decks...well this is like icing to a cake in that case.

WTC has a hard-on for elves I see.

I think this card is over rated, its not to disimiliar from any other liege, and the discard affect while a nice touch vs a cruel ultimatum or black deck, is rarely going to come in handy. I do fight discard decks now and then, but thats maybe every 1 in 10 matches or something. So, assuming thats the case, the rest of the time shes a 4 mana, 4/4, with a glorious anthem'esque type ability, which is decent, but no power house. Several other cards have similiar affects, and as loerny pointed out the knight of new alara is strictly better for multi colored. All in all, shes a decent addition to a deck, but I like to use cost benefit for card choices, and I'd rather use something awesome vs. something that's decent.

@ Gezus82:"Opponent controls." Black and occasionally red are the only colors that benefit from self-discards.

Blindthrall is right...and it's arguments like that that make me think a card needs to be printed that reads "You are your own opponent". Forget investigating the repercussions :)

def. one of the best elf cards printed (4) for a 4/4, it beafs the other creatures up (watchwolf, isamaru,... etc.) mono or duel a great card !!!

Not the best or worst liege, I'd only use it because it's fairly survivable and it boosts the creatures. The discard ability won't happen so often.

@ Blindthrall; Occasionally? You need to read up on Madness. Red is all over that.
But yea, you can pretty much just disregard the third ability for the most part. That's just a safety, to make sure it falls on the battlefield. A 4/4 for 4CMC that beefs up all your other guys for at least +1/+1 is more than good enough in its own right. Though I must say, on a somewhat related note, I prefer Balefire Liege.

This card is decent if your opponent likes to make you discard, in general only black decks make you discard, and there are even fewer decks that like to make you discard. Sideboard card otherwise.
And if you just wnat the boosts, you've got better options like honor of the pure.

I sort of view this card as a jack of all trades sort of thing. Everything about it screams 'decent'. The +1/+1 pumps are always handy but rarely a game-breaker on their own. A 4/4 for 4 is passable, but there's better 4 mana drops for both white and green. The fact that it is both a knight and an elf means it works with two common white and green creature themes. But At four CMC it's a little slower to play out than I'd sometimes like. Still, its ability is in its adaptability in my opinion.
You have to remember this was in standard when Blightning was, one of the strongest card advantage cards out there and was used quite often. To turn it into a semi-advantage on your part would always be good.
Loxodon Smiter then follow up with this. If your friend has a discard deck that just annoys the crap out of you, use this combo to auto-win. That's 10 puts of damage they just put on the field for you :) and when doing this, don't forget to pack your Obstinate Baloth and Guerrilla Tactics for the pure win.
Maybe the handiest of the Shadowmoor 4CMC lords(for those unfamiliar, compares directly to Ashenmoor Liege, Boartusk Liege, Glen Elendra Liege, and Thistledown Liege). Fits into Elf tribes, which is pretty big, and the mana ramp lets you get him out quicker. Fits into Knight tribes(like the others), but unlike most of the others, is white, which is where most Knights live. Plays as a freebie(and potentially with Flash) if your opponent likes to mill. Is a solid Lord, but unlike some others, like Ashenmoor, can hit from the front lines with a little more impunity.
I'll put him in my white-centered decks to boost weenie creatures, and generally pick him over Boartusk Liege for green-centered. For red, I can almost toss a coin between Boartusk Liege and Ashenmoor Liege, unless I'm loading up on Goblins or planning on integrating a lot of Rakdos red/black creatures. As a straight Lord, I'll pick Ashenmoor all day long. But if I had to spent 4CMC on any of the 5 as an all-round creature, this guy gets my pick for sure. Can swing, can take a hit, can cast for free, and belongs to two strong colour-supported tribes, one pretty handy for mana-ramping.

If their discard effect is random, Wilt Leaf probably isn't going to help you. If they get to choose, you probably aren't going to get to discard this one out of whatever else is in your hand.

but this is a great card though.

Turn 3: land, Wilt-Leaf Liege, swing for 5
Turn 4: Knight of New Alara, swing for 7 and 6

4 of Knight of New Alara...
and Tolsimir Wolfblood for kicks.
And I do believe they are all Knights, or most of them are? Throw in some Knight Exemplars too.
Don't forget Honor of the Pure and Crusade!
