Has anyone noticed how similar this card is to Triskelion? It's basically a toned-down version. Grim Poppet can't deal damage to players, but it does a better job of killing creatures, since -1/-1 counters can't be prevented. I'm sure this card is a blast to use with Master Transmuter.
What I don't like about him is that he is a measly 1/1 for if he hits an empty battlefield and for now stays that way until other creatures show up.

Combine Grim Poppet with an old blue card 'Unstable Mutation', Unstable mutation generally sucks but with Grim it's awesome, each turn Grim becomes a 7/7 PLUS gets a -1/-1 counter each turn, so you can just wither away their forces! Though once they got no creatures... Lol... But then his job is done for the time lol, until a new one hits the field.. And you got quite a few turns before Grim will wither away.
This card is pretty much nuckin futs in general. God do i hate it.

Got two in my artifact/scarecrow deck. And yes, the aforementioned combo with Master Transmuter is both fun and hate-able. The interaction between the two has saved me more than once from a trampling nasty like Terra Stomper that the deck ordinarily has a hard time dealing with. Best part about it is that if you leave blue mana open, you can do it at instant-speed. Great art, great flavor, good card all-around.

Not a very powerful combo, but combine this with Tourach's Chant and the -1/-1 counters will keep coming as long as you are playing green as one of your colors.

Splinter Twin this with the Reaper King in play. Sure it's as costly and silly as it is unlikely, but a vindicate plus a puncture blast plus a colorless silverback ape attacking each turn is pretty cool.

Necrotic Ooze with Cinderhaze Wretch, this and any creature with a tap ability on your graveyard gets rid of all of your opponents' targetable creatures (except maybe the ones with undying).

@kryptnypt: as long as you play the poppets before the doubling season, two of these actually make quite a good combo with doubling season: You have 2 poppets out, 3 -1/-1 counters on each. Remove five of the six -1/-1 counters from them, placing them wherever you want. Then remove the final counter to place two counters on your other poppet, then remove one of those counters to place two more on the first one, then remove all the counters except one again and distribute them however you want. You can repeat this process for an infinite distribution of -1/-1 counters on your opponent's creatures.

Grim Poppet could also benefit from Sinking Feeling, Torture, or Unstable Mutation.

3/5 when you hardcast him, due to the combos he's probably 4.5/5 though.
