Meh, somewhat useful if you give it to an Auriok Steelshaper to activate it's buff while keeping it tough enough to survive combat. Bonesplitter can activate its buff, but it won't save it's posterior.
Bonesplitter is better than Scimitar when dealing with regular creature decks, however the Scimitar might actually be the better choice when dealing with things like Disfigure and burn spells.
This is almost as bizarre a rarity jump as Dragon Engine.

Ide run x4 alongside x4 bonesplitters. If i was running a weenie equipment that is. You cant have x8 bonesplitters in your deck and this is the next best thing, besides the new lifestaff.

The biggest issue with this card is that it's fair. Nobody uses fair cards. Why would you use Grizzly Bears when you can use Nest Invader? Why would you use this if you can use Bonesplitter?

Turn 1: Plains, Kitesail Apprentice
Turn 2: Plains, Put down scimitar and equip it
You now have a 3/3 flying turn 2.

My final verdict is that this card is under-appreciated. If you're playing some form of aggressive mono white equipment deck with Kor Duelist, Kitesail Apprentice, Auriok Glaivemaster and perhaps Armament Master, the Scimitar can actually be quite useful, even alongside Bonesplitter.
