Its a fantastic engine at putting cards in the grumper and then finding a card that will use them. Your graveyard is a resource people.

This would work wonders in my B/R/U discard/reanimator deck, discarding fatties and finding the card to reanimate them, nice.
The art is simply awesome, truly capturing the image of a desperat person seeking demonic aid.

This is an overlooked card. I figured out why it costs 3BB to cast...

1. Cast this.
2. Buy it back by discarding 2 creatures.
3. Search for something like Zombify...
4. ????
5. Profit.

Dont play this! Play Demonic Tutor!

This is demonic tutor and careful study combined.
I think it would have seen play a lot in reanimator decks if this costed 4 mana.
Still not a bad casual card though.

Works well with Consecrated Sphinx and Library of leng.

Phenomenal art - some of magic's best in my opinion.

The art is disturbing, I just imagine the demon thing whispering in the dude's ear "shh shh relax, go with it don't fight it".

As mentioned, it has it's uses, but it's a risk to draft in limited, and there are just better ways to get cards and ditch cards in constructed. It has it's uses, but it's not the best card of it's type around. Slightly better than average in the right deck.

And then there's Damia, Sage of Stone. The buyback suddenly becomes a form of cycling. (You might want to pack something like Crucible of Worlds, though.)

@Tetsu, that doesn't work because Library of Leng only lets you reallocate discards that are part of an effect, the discard in the buyback of this is a cost, not an effect.

"You can't use the Library of Leng ability to place a discarded card on top of your library when you discard a card as a cost, because costs aren't effects."

Use Beacon of Unrest. Constant reanimating.

You're playing black. You have access to Cabal Coffers, Crypt of Agadeem, Dark Ritual, and Necropotence. The graveyard is merely an extension of your hand. Are you whining about mana efficiency and card disadvantage? Shameful.

Yet another way to abuse Squee, Goblin Nabob if you don't feel like discarding all the time.

This card is interesting, but IMHO it's too expensive. Even the combos you can make in the end are very expensive.
Concerning the artwork, yes it's very good, but not one of my favourite.

Increasing Ambition might obsolete this. 5-mana for a tutor is probably not good enough except where you can afford 14 mana for a triple tutor.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.

This card is referencing Demonic Tutor.

For a fun time, keep searching up and subsequently pitching Madness cards.

Much rather play Insidious Dreams. For Black cheaper, and at instant speed, you can discard two cards to find 2 other cards, getting you a very similar effect to this one.

Sure, they go to the top of your library, but you're probably playing it at the end of your opponent's turn anyway, and you don't have to pay the (higher) cost twice, like you do with this card. Not bad, still okay in EDH, but there are probably better options.

If you tutor up something that can draw you cards over time, you can tutor up whatever without worrying about hand size. Also acts as a good discard outlet for graveyard strategies. With the cost being 5 mana it's pretty much just an EDH or casual card, but, it really shines there.

4/5

Like the card it is an homage to, Demonic Tutor, you do not have to reveal the card to your opponents. Even without its buyback, it's a slightly overpriced Diabolic Tutor, which is not bad. But the buyback is an excellent recurring madness and reanimation enabler, especially since black has so many ways to draw extra cards to use as fodder. I run a single copy in my WhiteBlack reanimator deck, and often discard two targets to search up a Dread Return or the like.

Does nobody see the similarity to Forbid here?
