Are there any reasons why this creature wasn't simply made 9/9 or 10/10?
I can't imagine any balancing problems with a creature with Suspend 10 that's a plain ten-drop regarding hard-casting.
Would also have been much more fun to play then, for flavour reasons.

This + Dominus of Fealty = Sac your opponents permanents to get your Gargadon in play!

I like him. I agree though, Mode, he would've been a little more aesthetically pleasant if he was a 10/10 for 10 or Suspend 10.

I suspect he is 9/7 because he is red. Red does that thing.

Can't use Vampire Hexmage, since suspended cards aren't permanents yet.

I like pairing this guy with goblins, since they're already so expendable. Right now I'm running my playset with Pandemonium and cards like Hellspark Elemental and Elemental Appeal, and it's a pretty consistent finisher. It's a very nice thing to have in play, none of your permanents (except enchantments) need to go to waste to an opponent's removal. Can even cause multi-clause spells to fizzle that way. It's a great sacrifice engine, and I find that function to often be more useful than the creature it becomes. Especially with a Norin the Wary and Confusion in the Ranks in play.

I think he's a nine-seven because the other gargadons are like that.

goblin assault will really speed up the suspend

Its because Lesser Gargadon's a 6/4 dummy. They wanted to keep it that way for flavor reasons haha not to take away from whatever BS flavor reason you thought up haha. Research your cards first before whining about it.

Horrible art, he looks so small.
Otherwise fine card.

Strictly greater than Lesser Gargadon.

Play this guy as a mean surprise in a Kobold deck. Add some Ornithopter, Memnites...

@ Omenchild
That logic is terrible, the obvious next question is, "well then why is that card 6/4? I feel as though a four drop with that much of a drawback could be an even 6/6." Your reply rebounded a trait to another trait, without explaining the actual cause of said trait. For instance, why is that flower red? The correct answer would be "because the pigments in its petals make it appear red." an equivalent to your answer would be "Because the parent plant was red as well." You explained how the trait came to be, but not why.

Consider your answer before you start whining about things.

What, is there a lesser Gargadon?

He's red. Since when does red have creatures with matching power and toughness?

Now THAT is what Beast art looks like.

Oh, right, the card sucks by itself though.

I love the odd combination of a 9/7 for 9R. And much more so, I loved being able to threaten with 9 hasty damage every turn since turn four. Casting Damnation on turn four at 12 life had never been this dangerous.

float mana and sac down to one time counter then ramp into Apocalypse. with leave play or enter graveyard abilities, a la Bogart Shenanigans, its GG. I can think of very few 1 mana answers to him next turn, and that's if they forgo rebuilding for removal.

Restore Balance called. It wants your relative board position back.

Just take a white correction marker and put little white dots around his legs, then pretend they're scalebirds!

Even with some tricks to make it enter not so late in the game, it is still a virtual vanilla creature without evasion.
I think it can be good in Limited only, if it enters at turn 5 or 6.

Suspend with Jhoira of the Ghitu instead for a much lighter sacrifice load.

I run this mostly for the instant speed sac outlet, but I can't say an eventual hasted 9/7 for R is in any way disappointing.

I drafted a deck using this card and Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. The moment my opponent tapped out, I would sacrifice all my land on their end step to make a horde with 18 power.

They need to print a Greatest Gargadon.

I just noticed that this is a 1-mana nearly uncounterable instant-speed free creature, land, or artifact Sacrifice outlet on top of being an eventual 9/7 hasted body

I just fell in love with Black/Red combos. YOU CAN'T KILL MY SAC OUTLET HAHHAHHAH!!!

Treacherous Pit-Dweller.

Excellent flavor, and some really great design. Want him out faster? How much do you want to pay for it? Given that you're playing it in Red, you probably have quite a few weenies you can stand to get rid of, but watch out for removal!

Really promotes interesting plays, which means I like it, even if I'm not sure I'd personally play it.

Every card in Time Spiral was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.

This card references Lesser Gargadon, a similarly large creature which requires sacrifice to get going. Apparently Gargadons eat a lot.
