If this is timeshifted why does it have different art?

It has diffrent art because the art is suppoused to be of a person who won a magic tornement in which the winner got a picture of themselves put on a card. Well they had another artist redo the art for the card later because the last one made him look fat and it really didn't show his face very well. Overall sort of under whelming art.

I guess 2/1 for 2 mana in blue decks isnt precissely effective, but is average. His counterspell hability is fine. 3.5/5 .

Counterspell on a stick? Just find a way to crap out wizards, or use this with your ones that have come into play effects to just pop them. It's amazing. 4/5 for the hard counter.

If only Lullmage Mentor made Merfolk Wizards...

@McThor
I know, right? Everything else that makes Merfolk seems to make Merfolk Wizards (Stonybrook Schoolmaster, Summon the School, etc.). That would have been an awesome combo. You can still get the same combo just by adding Xenograft calling out Wizards.

There are other things you could do to lock people out with Lullmage Mentor, like using Intruder Alarm, but you still have the problem of getting 7 Merfolk to begin with before getting slaughtered by removal / burn / pinging / etc., mass or otherwise.

BlueBlue, Sacrifice a Dark Confidant before the life loss kills you: target spell takes it in the face.

Stonybrook Schoolmaster hates this guy for eating all his best students. :(

@Silverware: And this doesn't make him look fat? :(

Also, he looks like he's having a hard time at rolling a soap bubble up a hill...

Excellent way to recycle Willbenders or Voidmage Apprentices after unmorphing, assuming you're not taking advantage of re-morphing effects.

Kai here can sacrifice most of the other invitational winners! He's like their leader or something.

They should make a From the Vault series featuring all the Invitational Cards and cards named after or for people: the faces of the game.
FROM THE VAULT: FACES
Sylvan Safekeeper (Olle Rade)
Avalanche Riders (Darwin Kastle)
Roo***er Thief (Mike Long)
Meddling Mage (Chris Pikula)
Shadowmage Infiltrator (Jon Finkel)
Voidmage Prodigy (Kai Budde)
Solemn Simulacrum (Jens Thoren)
Dark Confidant (Bob Maher Jr.)
Rakdos Augermage (Terry Soh)
Ranger of Eos (Antoine Ruel)
Snapcaster Mage (Taigo Chan)
Maro (Mark Rosewater)
Wyluli Wolf (Lily Wu)

... are there any others? That's 13 down, 2 to go.

I'm not entirely convinced that Jon Finkel could beat Kai in a fight. Shadowmage infiltrator shouldn't be able to kill him.

@Mickacabra

Phelddagrif/Questing Phelddagrif (anagram of Garfield, Ph. D; Richard Garfield, creator of Magic)

The original phelddagrif is on the reserved list; I'm guessing the later version of it was meant to "work around" it.

I think it's sort of silly that they made a new picture because the last one made him look like a portly gamer... because I have to say, the new art just looks like a closer shot of a portly gamer.

@Mickacabra - Richard Garfield, Ph.D., add in the Questing Phelddagrif and that's 15.
