An excellent card with great combo potential. Use him with lots of burn (further the damage!), bounce (if Gel's about to die, bounce him and then ping something else before the bounce resolves!), and counters (to protect Gel...also more ping). Any decent Izzet deck should have 4.

Izzet best guild ever!
This creature can do at it's best 3/4 damages a turn, making it a quasi-closer for only . Enchanted with Clout of the Dominus becomes quite hard to destroy. Best pinger ever!
Doesn't matter the 0 power, because it will never attack!

Best pinger alongside of Goblin Sharpshooter (Death Pits of Rath combo, anyone?)
curiosity , sigil of sleep and a handful of instants......game stet match. he is fragile and need to be in the right deck .....but two of them with curisty should mean you can pretty much burn though your entire deck with the right build , while pinging your enemy to death ..

Am I the only one who stared in disbelief at the creature type for a bit? But yes, great pinger.
Such a simple pair of effects, but so painful. It basically adds one damage to every spell you cast... And I love how the creature type is just 'Weird'. That's a new one. I guess it's not evil enough to be a 'Horror'

I play four of these in a deck, as well as 4 kiln fiends, 4 chandras spitfires, and 4 Wee Dragonaughts. It averages a turn four win. The game usually looks something like this: Turn 1- Island, pass Turn 2- Mountain, play kiln fiend Turn 3- Mountain, play Gelectrode Turn 4- Mountain or Island, Tap Gelectrode for 1 (19), Play lightning bolt on them (16), untap/retap Gelectrode (15) Lava Dart on them (14), untap/retap Gelectrode, (13) Reuse Lava Dart by saccing a tapped mountain, (12), untap/retap gelectrode (11), Use Island to play a Distortion Strike on Kiln fiend. Untap/retap gelectrode. Now, you've cast a total of 4 spells (2 lava darts), so Kiln Fiend gets +12/+0, and an extra +1/+0 from Distortion, so swing for an unblockable 14. If they survive that, Distortion rebounds next turn. :) Best win ever. 5/5

@God_of_the_Smurfs - Lava dart was what I used with Gelectrode when it first came out. Then Flame Jab took its place. I suppose Staggershock would work well with this card too. Very fun card for casual. Always laugh maniacally the moment Gelectrode loses summoning sickness!

I could be wrong, but with 2 Gelectrode on the field, couldn't you infinite conspire?
Example: As Memory Sluice hits the table conspire states "As you cast this spell, you may tap two untapped creatures you control". You tap 2 gelectrode to copy the spell. After that, the original conspire card counts as being cast. When that happens, you untap the 2 gelectrode as the effect before retaping them as the copy is cast, thus generating the loop. = insta-mill Memory Sluice = insta-burn Burn Trail

I don't think you can mill your opponent to death with it. Conspire says that you can copy and assign a new target, I don't think that counts as playing a card that triggers the untap ability of Gelectrode.

Incredible card, one of my all-time favorites. Once in a 4 player game I did 20 damage to one guy and 4 to another on turn 5 with this, two Lightning Bolts, and a Chandra's Spitfire. It will never ever happen again, but it was hilarious and awesome.

You can't cast an instant, put Gelectrode's tap ability on the stack, then untap him again once the instant resolves. He untaps when you cast the spell, not when the spell resolves.

That's not true. The untap ability is a triggered ability and uses the stack. So, if you cast an instant you put it on the stack, Gelectrode's untap ability triggers and goes on the stack then you tap it for its tap ability which goes on the stack as well. The stack resolves backwards, so damage will be dealt, then Gelectrode untaps, then the instant you played resolves.

This is my favorite card of all time. Period. I have had more fun with this card than any other.
Gelectrode mana cost... 3 Number of instants and sorceries to back it up... 37. Doing every significant action on your opponents turn AND getting to deal damage to them in the process... Priceless.
There are some players that a hand full of instants can't satisfy... for everyone else, there is Gelectrode.

my friends have scooped every game where i got this combo.
a 2/3 haste SHROUDED pinger with lifelink and deathtouch that untaps every time i play an instant or sorcery. they have to blow a field wipe just to get rid of it. this alone has locked down the whole board and noone would dare swing being afraid that i would instant and bolt their favorite creature. seriously a crazy card.

Personally I prefer Gorgon Flail to make him a teensy bit less flimsy.
