just wondering, if you block this for terminal damage, does the land get discarded?

@darkfury: If Genju of the Realm takes lethal damage the land goes to the graveyard and the Genju enchantment goes back to your hand.

This is simply obscene. Use a Pentad Prism and it's ridiculously easy to drop this turn 3, then your opponent is in for a world of pain.

am i missing something, why does it have trample? wouldn't this have summoning sickness, and then disappear before you get to use it.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.6/5.0) (7 votes)
No Matt, the creature would not have summoning sickness because lands do not get summoning sickness, and the creature is still a land.

This card works great in a Sunburst Deck. With some Chromatic Spheres and some Guild Lands, this can be dropped by turn 4.
As for the debate of weather this card works, if you pay its coast in succession, it stays a Creature, essentially having to pay 4 to use it. Of course, because of that, unless you have alot of disposable Mana, it can really hurt you during multi-player games, but if your playing a Sunburst deck, you shouldn't worry about damage that much, unless it's coming your way, which makes this sort of like an Instant defender.

Can you activate the ability numersous times therefore multiplying the Trample effect?
This is possible with Genju of the Fields but with Lifelink.

Summoning sickness checks whether the permanent has been controlled continuously since the beginning of your turn. A non-creature permanent that becomes a creature is subject to summoning sickness if you have not controlled that permanent since the beginning of your turn.

As long as you did not play the land that turn, it does not have summoning sickness.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that land creatures only have summoning sickness if the land itself came into play this turn

In other words, I think that Kick the can is right here

does the being legendary of that creature mean I can't use it on a land that is more than once in play? This could be a reason for Mirror Gallery

★★★★☆ (4.5/5.0) (5 votes)
@Buridan: No. If two permanents have the same name, and only one is legendary, the legend rule doesn't apply. (rule 704.5k)
@AXER: No. I'm not sure if it would have multiple instances of trample, but it's a moot point. Multiple instances of trample are redundant. (rule 702.17e)

No! Bad community! Baaad!

Guys, first of all this is a legend from the kamigawa block. A legendary enchantment at that. How can an enchantment be legendary? If it were a man land that would make sense, but as is, it's just stupid.

Secondly for everyone saying zOMFG 8/12 TRAMPLE EPIC WIN SUPER POWER 5 STARS it's not even a creature most of the time. You have to pay mana for it. To activate a legendary enchantment. An enchantment, which are notoriously bad for card advantage. I mean, what if someone eye of nowhered the land on their turn after you dropped this? Good job, you're down a land and lost your precious legendary enchantment. I mean, manlands offer a similiar effect without *** over both card advantage and mana curve. Jesus christ people come on. 4.5 stars is dumb.

And just because it's rather large and has trample when it does decide to be a creature, it is still a legend. Pretty unworthy of legendary status if you ask me. It's like one of the legends from Legends, except instead of having an unspeakably absurd casting cost it screws card advantage and doesn't do anything unless you pay additional mana. Every turn.

Half a star to lower the stupidly high rating.

This card is crap people! It takes 1 of every color and dies to Enchantment, land, and creature removal.

Why hallo there, I'm here to counter your points.

First of all, "Guys, first of all this is a legend from the kamigawa block. A legendary enchantment at that. How can an enchantment be legendary? If it were a man land that would make sense, but as is, it's just stupid."

Flavor argument, not worth discussing.

"Secondly for everyone saying zOMFG 8/12 TRAMPLE EPIC WIN SUPER POWER 5 STARS it's not even a creature most of the time. 4.5 stars is dumb."

Okay, let's say it was a 8/12 creature. Turn after you play it, during it's summoning sickness, they can Eye To Nowhere it can't they? So you're saying all creatures that don't have an enters the battlefield effect or haste are useless?

As for the mana cost, it's 1 one of each color plus 2 to get an 8/12 trampler. And every turn after that, you can pay 2 to call up 12 points of toughness.

As for manlands, manlands are subject to this thing called "1 land per turn". And since most of them are targetable as much as this is, and CAN'T be replayed because they don't go to the graveyard, I'd say they're worse.

"And just because it's rather large and has trample when it does decide to be a creature, it is still a legend. Pretty unworthy of legendary status if you ask me. It's like one of the legends from Legends, except instead of having an unspeakably absurd casting cost it screws card advantage and doesn't do anything unless you pay additional mana. Every turn."

I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be a mechanical argument or flavor ranting. Sure, it's legendary. I think Wizards is smart enough to not let players have a turn where they activate 4 different 8/12's with trample for 8 mana, or 2 for 4 mana. Mirror Gallery DOES allow it though...
Lord_of_Tresserhorn
★★★★☆ (4.1/5.0) (5 votes)
I think it's peculiar that the spirit creature is legendary too. I mean, unless you run Mirror Gallery...

Ah, I get it, I think. There are cards, at least one in the Kamigawa block, I think, that can move enchantments. But Kitsune Mystic (as Autumn-Tail, Kitsune Sage) would not work, the other target must be a creature too.

Heh. But if you get this to work... You can actually put it on your opponents lands, switch, and blast two, then get Genju of the Realm back. Yeah, way too complicated and costly, but hey, reusable land destruction.

Still, I wonder why the land gets no new name.

Also, just for crazy casual, this + Darksteel Citadel + Jokulhaups (or Devastation or Obliterate, but those cost more).

Finally, the flavor is awesome. And that it's the only multicolored card in the entire set.

I think you need to read the card again. You don't get the land back if it dies, you get the enchantment back if the land dies.

Definitely not crap. One land of every color is not that hard to obtain with the variety of multicolored lands nowadays and moxes and whatnot. An 8/12 trample for 2 per turn is not shabby at all, especially seeing how difficult it is to get rid of.

If you use land removal, Genju just returns to your hand to haunt the next land. Same if you use creature removal. The only real way to get rid of him for good (save for counterspells, discards and all that jazz) is enchantment removal and there's not that much of those lying around.

Mark my words, when they make "From the Vault: Hallows" or whatever name they make up for the Enchantment set (and they WILL), this will be in it.

FTV: Dragons (actually doesn't fit the Vault pattern very much. It's just the kick off of the series.)
FTV: Everything
FTV: Artifacts
FTV: Creatures
FTV: Lands

Betcha anything FTV: Enchantments is next.

I don't think Instants will get their own Vault, as I just can't imagine anything to name
that set that wouldn't sould incredibly cheesy. "FTV: Zoom?" "FTV: Speedy?" "FTV: Flash?"
nah. I mean MAYBE Wizards can name it something brilliant, but more likely, "FTV: Spells"
or "FTV: Magic" will be an Instant AND Sorcery Vault set. 8 of one, 7 of the other?

Then they could start "FTV: Blue", "FTV: Red", "FTV: Green", etc.- that gives them 5 more Vaults, for a total of 11 so far...and after THAT many years of Magic sets, I think....just maybe...

FTV: Planeswalkers could become...you know, a thing? Karn, Bolas, and Jace pretty much guaranteed. However, when speculating a full decade into the future, it's impossible to say ANYTHING else about FTV: Planeswalkers. And you KNOW they will eventually have to make THAT.

There should be a clause allowing the use of this Genju as a Commander. Bonus points for being in an all-enchantment deck.

Wait, so if I activate this on an opponents land(s) and make them legandary, doesn't that force them to sac at least two of them? Or if I turn, say, three of them legendary, wouldn't they sac all three?

This card is interesting to me for a couple of reasons, and not just because he's a drooling, world-sized Akki. I'm a little surprised no one has yet mentioned these trivia points.

This is the only Legendary Aura printed thus far.

This was the first multicolored card printed in the post-8th Edition card frame.

I remember speculating with my high school buddies whether or not gold cards would be printed in the new style or not, or if they would switch to something more along the lines of what eventually showed up on split-color cards. Lo and behold, we ended up with both!

4.5/5 for flavor, usefulness, and oddball facts

Here's a neat bit of advice for you - since it's possible you might be running this in the same deck as a Terramorphic Expanse, enchant this onto any you draw if possible.

Just so you can use it defensively if necessary and if it dies you can tap and sacrifice it without any loss.

Better yet, Flagstones of Trokair.

Turn your planeswalker into an artifact with liquimetal coating
March of the machines so he's an artifact creature planeswalker
Enchanted evening so he's an enchantment
Then turn him into a saproling with conspiracy
Then play life and limb
Then enchant him with this

Turn him your artifact creature planeswalker saproling forest enchantment into an 8/12 spirit and win the game.

This is the most efficient way to win with Tibalt

As far as I can tell, the text at the end stating it remains a land means that any ability that land has is not lost. My conclusion, inkmoth nexus.

Of course, I could be wrong, but a 9/13 Flying, Trample, Infect is worth being possibly wrong.

A sorcery-proof black 8/12 with trample that returns to your hand if it's killed is pretty reasonable for 2.

I must say i find this card rather intriguing, everyone who says the whole *dies to X removal* well done geniuses, everything dies to removal hence the term - REMOVAL. your argument is invalid. this card is flavorful, a joy to watch and play and wonderful in all other aspects including replayability. 5/5
