Everything that was wrong with Saviors of Kamigawa. Huge mana cost, restriction on its ability so that even sneaking it into play with reanimation is ineffective, and no evasion - you could chump block this thing forever. Cool concept on the Inames, but terrible card.

i agree, this card was terrible and a let down. combining the two inames should be an awsome thing, not combining the same cards and degrading their power.

Kind of the same thing they did when they combined akroma and phage into karona.

Although it /is/ cool that this is still the only 12 mana card ever printed xD

The ability isn't horribly awful, its the 12 mana that I can't get past. You could, however, play it with something like dramatic entrance for 5 mana as it is black and green. You can also play gift of the diety on it, to give your 8/8 creature death touch and lure. Really limited out of the kamigawa set though.

You're forgetting

Autochthon Wurm.- who was a whopping 15 mana.

He's really not that hard to get out if you're playing a spirit/arcane deck. And getting him killed off and using his ability after using Iname, Death Aspect 's ability can be found quite useful.

Cheat this into play= Gets two creatures down.

Dies?

Exile and Revive.

Nice card, just difficult to hard cast.

I want this for EDH

wow, i would totally pay like 9 or maybe 10 mana for this. um 12!?!?!?
Well, i suppose 8 for 8/8, GG for serch a spirit into play and BB grab one from your graveyard is good, but frankly, make him a 4/4 for 7 or 8, or a 3/3 for 7. With flying.

It That Betrays is another 12 mana creature.

How can you compare this to Autochton Wurm? The wurm has convoke so it's cost could be lowered, and has trample so it can't be chump-blocked all day long like this can. If you cheat the wurm into play you don't miss out on an ability like with Iname as One, so I don't feel as bad tossing it into play with Elvish Piper or Dramatic Entrance.

staff member 1. Is it just me or is magic to noob friendly.
staff member 2. ya what do you think we should do about it?
staff member 1. well I was thinking lets make a block with only one good card per set.
staff member 2. isn't that Just punishing everyone?
staff member 1. nope because the more experienced players will look at the block first realize it sucks and keep bying cards from good sets like mirrodin.
staff member 2. alright sounds good!
staff member 1. I think I will call it the kamigawa.
staff member 1. You no what I like making noobs suffer lets make another crappy block called ravnica.

Would have been somewhat worth it if it just had flying. Should've been a given since all three Iname creatures have wings clearly visible in their art.

This card would be so worth it if it had the SAME EXACT abilities as Iname, Life Aspect and Iname, Death Aspect but making it only affect one card makes it terrible at 12 mana. I still would use him as an EDH general in a spirit deck with both of the other Inames

Its effect is clearly not epic enough for its cost. I looked at the cost and said "Whoa," but I looked at the ability and was terribly disappointed.

@ dragonking987: Ravnica block was crappy?

HOLY BALLS THAT'S A HIGH COST!

It's effect is good, but the obvious problem is it's cost. Make it a 7 CMC and a 3/4 and I'd be happy, as would everyone else.

Sucks as a General unless you can get past that cost. As far as I know, you cannot cheat a General into play from the command zone beyond what it printed on it's card. Otherwise, Good ol' Progenitus would see a lot more play in EDH.

But, in a revival deck, mana cost means nothing. He sync his black half (Iname, Death Aspect) really well as long as you don't pull EVERY spirit out with him. I'd play him in my Iname (Black) deck if not for the color identity rule.

Awesome play with this would go

1. Get 12 mana before you die.... Hard part over
2. Play iname as one (this card), search your library for iname, death aspect. Put every single spirit creature in your graveyard, including myojin of life's web and iname, life aspect.
3. On your next upkeep sac/destroy iname as one, put iname, life aspect on the battlefield, put all those "big beater spirits" in your hand and then play the myojin, remove the counter and toss them all out.
4. Get haste and start beating people!

Well, it's a lot better now that there exists infrastructure for casting massive mana cost creatures (see: Eldrazi). The search and put into play effect is extremely powerful if used properly (Conspiracy for Spirit allows you to find anything from your deck, including more expensive stuff, and whack it straight into play, with a similar resurrecting ability on death). I'm just saying, there are ways to abuse it that mean you need to keep an eye on the cost.

The limitations on this thing are mind-boggling. Even the option of using him as a Reanimator target were carefully ironed out. Ultimately, it's too little effect for too much cost - which is a pity, because Iname looks awesome.
If you want to spit out your spirits, the Myojin of Life's Web is a better choice.

:-(

The Iname story is my favorite Kamigawa vignette; it has epic scope, a sympathetic-yet-flawed character, and a great illustration of one of life's harder lessons. For those looking, the story can be found at this URL.

So when I learned there was a combined Iname, I wondered what the story would do with it... And yet we got nothing. Worse, the card is awful, both as a regular card and as an EDH general, so it's impossible for me to look at it without thinking of the wasted potential.

The story behind Iname is really cool and the concept of the three different cards is a lot of fun, but as stated that mana cost is just painful. I love this guy in casual though. However I usually find him to be more useful as a discard to throw some serious firepower into my Slumbering Tora.

I enjoy the kamigawa block because of the flavor and cards like this. Yes a lot of the cards are not to par when compared to other sets but its fun to try and build a functional deck that sticks to the theme.

you are all wrong...

Garruk Wildspeaker is the guy you wanna run with this card... he ramps, he trample,.. and he gives you the secondary win con that you are gonna need in your G/B control deck. This card is like a big version of Grave Titan.

The ability is pretty cool, there are a lot of awesome Spirits out there, like the Spirit Avatar cycle.

But ouch that cost. And the worst part is that if you use Dragon Arch to cheat it out, you don't get to use its first ability.

12 mana 2-for-1! (Sort of 3-for-1 if they kill it.)

That art is so killer though.

I wanted so badly to like this card. It has amazing art, a flavorful color combination, even a cool name. But as Equinox523 pointed out, it's the epitome of everything that was wrong with Kamigawa. On top of that, unlike some similar cards from Kamigawa, it's not even useful as an EDH General. Such a waste of a legendary.

The first multicolor new bordered card, and it's clear. It was back before the two color split.

@Megadog: Sorry, but this card doesn't even get to claim that trivia piece, having lost out to Genju of the Realm one set earlier.
The concept behind this card, and really the whole Kamigawa block, was immensely flavorful and had some very cool mechanics, but the cards themselves tended to be overcosted or underpowered, especially in the context of current power level. I very much hope that we get to see another block set on this amazing plane... just give the mechanics the cards they deserve!

The Iname creatures would've been better if they had given the green one trample, the black one flying, and this one both keywords. They still wouldn't have been amazing. Just better than this.
