I never got to play Kokusho, but come on, what's more fun than a 5/5 Dragon that will suck the life out of an opponent and give it to you? I think dropping a second 5/5 and draining 10 life from an opponent and adding 10 to yours. Imagine this guy in Multiplayer games.

One of my greatest dreams in Magic is to drop four Kokushos into play at the same time using Iname, Death Aspect and Living Death.

I get 4 of this in play at once on a regular bassis with my dragonstorm deck. It's one of the deck's win conditions

@VampireChild85, that is Pure Awesomeness. Have you ever pulled that off in multiplayer?

these days, you need a sac outlet for him with some much rfg removal

@GooberSnotpants: Or you can run it with Makeshift Mannequin and make them cry. That baby keeps Kokusho from getting RFGed unless they counter the trigger for Mannequin and on top of that, only a select few cards can get past it, and close to none of them are actually played.

Yeah, target it with a kicked Rite of Replication. That would be... nice. :-)

It's not often for a creature to be a contender for the best creature of its type.

Kokusho, in this case, is a contender for two creature types at the same time.

A Splinter Twin is useful here

Time for a design story!

As Aaron Forsythe recounts (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/af38); the spirit dragon cycle were costed according to how typical it was for dragons to show up in those colors.
So red and blue were the most splashable, Yosei and Cocopuffs less so, and Jugan the least so.

What the hell was Wizards thinking with all of these kamikaze Legends? The whole point of the legend rule is so that you don't end up playing multiple copies of powerful critters. Great design space though.

Man, the legendary rule never hurt so good before.

And then there are people who tell me Kamigawa was crap...

Recurring Nightmare, Kokusho and Havoc Demon Have been a staple in my recursion deck for years. Fun stuff!

Kamigawa was so freaking hyperbolic. There was crap like Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper, and then there was stuff like this. I'd like to know what exactly was going on with R&D at the time.

Wow, must be FANTASTIC to be banned in EDH.. Not yet played Commander so I'm not up to par on what's legal/banned but I think this is the only creature I've seen that's banned in that league.. Obviously there's more, you just don't see it much. Any fool could see why though lol.

Best moment with this card... two- headed giant. Me and my partner both had debtor's knell out. Got to our upkeep, he had two of these in his graveyard. We both grabbed one and blew up the world. I actually said that it felt like we were holding two nuclear launch keys. XD

His ability is SO extremely powerful in muliplayer, that I choose to run him with some self-imposed restrictions:

Use him like a Flying Craw Wurm. Just cast him, and start attacking people with it. Dare them to block it and 'bite the poisoned apple'. Attack evenly, so you aren't screwing people too bad. Explain that if you didn't attack SOMEbody every turn, you would have him up to chump block with, and you don't want that temptation. Don't build your deck around him, don't try to make him go off. Leave that up to your opponents to do for you, and if people start trying to exile him, next game use him Spikier to teach them not to do that anymore. So they can choose to either take an incidental 5 in the air, or they can set off a Spirit Bomb of Life Point exchanging that leaves not many non-you people a chance to win. :D

PURE. EVIL. !!! :D

Just have him be that Awful Tension Card in your deck, but set things so that they only have themselves to blame if he actually dies.

Also looks like a Black Slifer the Sky Dragon. Props for that!

@ RecurringMemories: Gisela doesn't affect his trigger, she increases damage, not life loss.

That being said, Kokusho is still super fun with cards like Miren, the Moaning Well, Diamond Valley, High Market and Sheoldred. Yay for his unbanning in Commander :D

Kokusho + Palinchron + Recurring Nightmare. That is all.

Also; the better art for not being foil.

The Kamigawa spirit dragon cycle is great. Kokusho's the best, obviously, since black can have it bouncing in and out of the graveyard all day long for multiple triggers. Will end the match pretty quickly if you abuse it properly, but maybe try having fun instead. 5/5
