hard to guage this one... but assuming its a mass-creature deck, by the time this pops out, itd be a pretty epic size...

I personally have never played this creature and then lost, due to the fact that it almost always plays for more than 20, give it trample then game over

Yeah, give it Mythic Proportions or have a Mosstodon out and things will get nasty.

Mythic Proportions is an amazing card for this, as is Mosstodon, but even a Roughshod Mentor can do the trick, and it costs one more than a Mosstodon, so Ancient Ooze will be +1/+1 greater if you have a Mentor instead. A Spearbreaker Behemoth can also be a good friend, as can a Protean Hulk because he makes Ancient Ooze beyond epic when he goes to the graveyard. Also, in a deck where mana cost matters, one might want to throw in a Manaplasm for when he plays those big fatty monsters. Another fun trick is playinga Krosan Colossus face-down and flipping it up after Ancient Ooze is declared as an attacker to give Ancient Ooze +9/+9 on an attack. With trample, that could win one the game. Another game winner especially potent with Ancient Ooze is Decree of Savagery. Whether it gets played or cycled (depending on how much mana is available) it can help push Ancient Ooze over the edge to win the game, or at least bring victory that much closer. I think it's essential though that Ooze have trample because, like Wolf-blood said, it pretty much always plays for something over twenty.

Step 1: Give it trample.
Step 2: Win game.

I've played this guy and gotten him up to 42/42, he is a beast, an absolute giant.

I like using it with Soulblast for an extreme overkill, though a direct attack or even a trample from him is already an overkill.

Sylvan Basilisk + Lure + Ancient Ooze = all their creatures die and none of them can block ancient ooze who goes in for a load of damage. 23 the last game I played.

Should be called Beatstick Elemental

If it would have trample, it would be playable, but still not good. This "die if you have no other creatures" mechanic, like on emperor crocodile, really sucks. You got three creatures: your opponent kills two and the ancient ooze dies for free. Someone plays mass destruction and all ancient oozes you might draw or have on your hand are dead cards, until you get some other creatures into play.

Cheat out an avatar of might or two, have a brawn in the graveyard and then swing for a lot with this guy. Might be useful to have krosan drovers or Elvish Pipers to speed things up.

I'm almost always casting armadillo cloak on this and then having it sling surestrike trident. Throw in infused energy gobs of mana and other untappy effects and it's like 'Please stop throwing the trident at everyone.'

hmmmm for me it screams for a march of the machines artifact deck, use pentad prism and the like to pull one out early and use march of the machines to turn heaps of mana giving artifacts into creatures. all it needs is some protection

It would have been a much more interesting card if it had some sort of blanket effect of it's own, a'la Roughshod Mentor or Acesticism. That way, you get a card that synergizes with the multiple other creatures you presumably have to power it up.

Let's play Finish the Flavor Text: "The ooze will always be... until you control no other creatures."

primalcrux says this is outdated. if you want to play this use overwhelming stampede but really its too vulnerable to be worth it...especially when primalcrux is out there.

Anyone here reminded of the "Ancient Enemy" in the Dean Koontz book Phantoms??

Flavor text would be more fitting for Predator Ooze... since indestructible.

This is like the ultimate win more card. The more you're winning due to your creature advantage, the bigger it gets... kinda useless actually.

If it had had trample or included its own CMC, it would have been pretty good, as is, it is somewhat unusable.
