The gatherer says this card has flavor text, and it's not too bad either "In their most desperate hour, the elves of Llanowar had one song left to sing" but there clearly isn't any room on the card for it. What's the deal, Wizards?

Yeah, in the X Ed. set, there were a lot of cards that had very long reminder text, as this set was designed to try and help beginning players learn some of the more rudimentary keywords. However, when the cards were printed in the same set as foil, the reminder text was dropped, and flavor text was added. The X Ed. Pariah has the same thing going on.

I think that the flavor text is on the foil card. Foils don't have the reminder text.

I run three of these things in a fatty deck with Defense of the Heart. I loved it, then this guy I was playing Comet Stormed both of them and smacked me for 8. Not a great success.
I used to play this and defense of heart with forbidden orchard, Hunted Troll, and Hunted Phantasm in my G/U deck. With a little mana excel, I consistently had at least one fatty out by turn 4 or 5 and at times by 3. Using Vedalken Orrery to spring it on them at the end of their turn just made it all the more fun.

An 8 mana 8/8 trampler is reasonable if not very exciting. An 8/8 trampler for GG is all kinds of good. Murders token decks, works well with sacrificing or fog-type stalling decks. This card is excellent if not anywhere near as good as its black counterpart.

EDH... this is definately an EDH deck, where some people are going to have huge swarms...

Cool card overall. It has some value, especially in certain situations.
Versus some faster decks or token decks, like annoying Kuldotha/goblin ones that get 3 tokens out on turn 1 with Kuldotha Rebirth and 0-drop Thopter/Memnite madness and usually a Goblin Bushwhacker/Goblin guide on turn two.
Drop this guy and laugh.

I think you fail to see the niche this guy fits. He can fit in a cmc >=6 or power >=5 deck, and is a decent card hard cast, but those decks can sometime get a slow start creature-wise. This guy becomes an 8/8 Trample for 2 mana when you need it the most.
This is one of the best solutions to mana screw in my mayael edh.

How often is your opponent going to have that many more creatures than you if you have a green deck? Of course, when that does happen this card is amazing. I guess it's just not for me though.

An 8/8 for {8} with trample is decent, but an 8/8 with trample for {G}{G} is astounding! Just make sure you use cards that force your opponent to have more creature than you do (preferably small ones) such as Forbidden Orchard so that you can use that tasty alternative casting cost. A card that also benefits from this is Defense of the Heart

screw terra stomper. this guy is solid sideboard material against all sorts of weenie/token decks. you could easily play this before terra stomper, even without orchestrating it, like with hunted troll or forbidden orchard.
