In addition to the epic flavor text, this cheap beater is probably my favorite Akroan creature from the set. My only gripe is that it enters a standard environment that lacks cheap token generators. Lingering Souls, Gather the Townsfolk, and Krenko's Command all rotate out as soon as these guys rotate in, and the best replacements are five- and six-mana permanents like Assemble the Legion and Elspeth, Sun's Champion. I'd love to build an aggro deck with these guys as the (pun totally intended) tip of the spear, but I don't think it'll happen.

Oooh, I love this hoplite creature! They capture the flavour of hoplites much better than the other two in this set, as it actually tries to capture the flavour of phalanx formation fighting. So now I can gleefully exclaim "Spears down, men!".

should work well with haste creatures from return to ravnica block. build up a little then swing with a couple haste guys and this man. boros too good even in other planes.

Example: T1 legion loyalist T2 this T3 skyknight legionnaire You'll have a 1/1 first stiker, a 4/2 first strike and trample, and a flying 2/2 with first strike and trample. On your third turn. Its also really fun with older stuff like hero of bladehold and battle cry.

The art really hacks me off. The very word hoplite comes from the Greek word hoplon which means shield. The hoplites in than picture look retarded. The card it's self is pretty decent though, but ill have to make an altered art version or i wont play it.

Our dear friends from Boros have been moonlighting in Theros...
This will potentially do very well in a Soldier-Token deck with Archetype of Aggression and Archetype or Courage but will work as well if not better in a battalion with Odric, Master Tactician.
It's cheap, simple, straightforward, and has a solid effect
